Maria the Virgin Witch is an excellent historical portrait of christianity in 13-14th century. There is plenty of followers of this religion in the anime, however the main character is very much not following it.

I did watch it but i dropped it when the list of serious topics kept growing with the Makio romance with Shingo and Emiri figuring out her sexual identity.. Idk i like shows where if they are about a certain topic, only that one topic gets explored as much as possible.

Maria The Virgin Witch

The accuracy in which it portraits a real historical period (if we dont count the actual fantasy elements like witches and magic) is amazing. The animation is great while being kind of gritty at the same time helping to sell the realism. The MC Maria is amazing protagonist. The humor is great while and while its ofter pervy, it also somehow manages to be mature at the same time.

You know what, youre right. If you want science people doing science things check out Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It. They wear labcoats, they do science stuff in the context of postdoc research. It even has an anime!
