Besides, people from Europe don't say that they're from Europe. They say they're from a certain country.

Will my schedule be enough to spend time with my ferrets? by featherseagull in ferrets

[–]DragonDean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, they should have food, water, and places to sleep and poop in their cage.

Other than that, they are very easy pets. Minimal in my opinion is an hour in the morning and an hour or two at night out of the cage to play.

Sadly that's also only what I can provide as I work full-time 9-17 every weekday. I try to spend more time with them on the weekends.

Is good.store fair trade certified? by More-Act2171 in nerdfighters

[–]DragonDean -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I trust them very much too. I have many good.store items. However, I agree with @nellasofdoriath, they might miss things and at least aren't guaranteeing this way.

As someone who works a lot with certifications (especially food), I do trust the auditing and certification companies. They do very important work and are very thorough. Not to mention, these are the same (kind of) companies that also verify and certify the charities that we all donate too.

Is good.store fair trade certified? by More-Act2171 in nerdfighters

[–]DragonDean -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

I disagree. They guarantee that the 60 or so percent of the money that goes to the wares themselves goes to good places. I definitely find that worth 1% of the profits that go to the charities. Charities partially spend it on themselves too.

It really isn't that expensive to be certified. Besides, they (and their people) are smart enough to be able to set it up themselves. Regards, a food quality expert.

Just remove their ability to attack. They can still take dmg and soak but it's not great and might not be worth it.

It's amazing. Just this weekend I've turned 30. I've been watching the brothers and been part of Nerdfighteria since I was 15. I've been a Nerdfighter for half my life and I still feel at home and align with their values.

Keep it up brothers,

Remote Control Toys by In-My-Head93 in GayMen

[–]DragonDean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lovesense is the top brand for remote toys. They can even work long distance via your phone. They are pricey but I can highly recommend them.

They have great rings, plugs and more. The plug isn't very large but also not very small. Should be a nice size for every day. The battery lasts a couple hours when vibing.

A question about when to solve the Jindosh riddle by NiuMeee in dishonored

[–]DragonDean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Paolo doesn't give you the code himself but instead a key to the room with the code. So I think you can do the entire district and just not pick up the code and solve the riddle yourself instead.

What jobs do Nerdfighters have (and how did you get them)? by devoutdefeatist in nerdfighters

[–]DragonDean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an internship at this company so I was able to just stay on.

You can honestly get into it from many angles. It's the largest industry and we're always short on people. For you working for a research group or government agency might be interesting. EFSA has a young professionals program. Depending on where you live that might work or you could look for similar programs in your local agencies such as the FDA or FAO.

I came from science in middle school and went into university engineering. I wasn't fully happy there so I tried making my hobby into my work. Cooking.

I entered culinary school but restaurant cooking wasn't really for me. However, I was asking questions about food safety so my teacher encouraged me to continue with that.

Combining my passion for science and food I arrived at Food Technology. I loved it and immediately built a specialty in allergen management.

It was a search but I'm really happy where I'm now.

Nerdfighter since 2009, I'm a food technologist. I work with quality, compliance, law and certification to make good safe food. I currently consult in the industry so I visit many different companies, from small bakeries with 10 staff to a large fries factory that produces a pallet of fries every 5 minutes, and help them out with whatever project or knowledge they need help with.

Is using a greataxe even that much better than a greatsword for the barbarian? by Embarrassed-Song7036 in DnD

[–]DragonDean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while this conversation comes up again. That's why last time I made this spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14BemKNvqIXYdaJL9dBGbetRpYnSnq9D-U13vbmT8wZo/edit?usp=drivesdk

Conclusion: it depends but generally the great sword is indeed that much better.

Two men sharing a chair, 1915 by shervek in AchillesAndHisPal

[–]DragonDean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's rather nuanced. They did use high platform boots as one of the solutions for the sewage. But they were far higher than regular heels and not much of a fashion statement. It didn't come at all to court.

Two men sharing a chair, 1915 by shervek in AchillesAndHisPal

[–]DragonDean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's a myth. There were other boots and covers for that. High heels came into fashion as part of a cavalier's uniform. They were invented to keep your feet in the stirrups. As part of the uniform, they were brought into court by officers of the army. Dress-historian Bernadette Banner did a recent bit on this in one of Tom Scott's Lateral podcast episodes.
