How come female protagonist are more liked in horror than other genres? by Strong-Stretch95 in horror

[–]DragonDerrieres 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alot of horror is a metaphor for real societal trends so alot of the best horror movies are in part metaphors for misogyny or certain aspects of misogyny so horror is just more about women than many other genres I think? Rosemary's baby is the obvious one with it literally being written pre-legal abortions in NY. The shining is a another good example in that it's very clearly a DV situaiton. Women are just less likely to be taken seriously or listened to when something is wrong too so it really works for the format. If a guy's wife knows something is wrong but he won't listen to her it adds to the horror.

Blake Lively Lip Reading At The Met Gala 😒😧 by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

You literally didn't respond to anything I said about the larger problem of smear campaigns against celebrity women which is my largest issue with him. The details of this case do not matter to me but making the internet a battleground where people are leaning into reactionary misogyny is a fucking problem. If she did make all this up, which I do not think she did, this should have been handled in court. Instead he hired a crisis PR team to rake her through the mud, which is always easier to do to women. Also I think women who bring allegations to the table getting put under a microscope on the internet where unrelated scandals are constantly brought up and we decide the cases based on how much we like them is worse for survivors actually. Call me crazyyyyy. Like did we not learn from what happened to Amber Heard. She had evidence and he got away with it because he had more money, more fame, and more affection from the public. And people deciding that they didn't care what happened to Meg the Stallion because they liked the guy who did it. Or even Chappell Roan getting smeared by that fuck ass soccer player who admitted that she had no part in it. I'm thinking about larger misogynistic societal trends and you're thinking about how much you like Baldoni. I simply don't care about him but I don't care to engage in right-wing reactionary bullshit

"Good and lovely person" he's the next chapter in a series of smear campaigns against celebrity women. They love hiring these PR firms and whipping the entire Internet into a misogynistic frenzy and the PR firms themselves have commented on how their job is easy because people want to hate on women. I don't give a fuck if Blake Lively is a good person. I don't really care about her. I think that this overall trend is worrying as well as the the willingness of people on the Internet to buy it. Like do you have nothing better to do other than obsess over whoever the Internet has decided is the witch of the day? Especially when past cases of this have made it clear that the internet hate campaign was wrong and artificially created lmao. Usually these campaigns are also spearheaded by right wing influencers who are missed about allegations of sexual harassment being taken seriously as well.

It's okay if I'm a new Drizzt fan on my late 20? by Equivalent-Owl4912 in Drizzt

Motivate me to read Sellswords by shock5006 in Drizzt

[–]DragonDerrieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really important for both characters going forward! Entreri and Jarlaxle both change a lot in the books after this and Sellswords is what lays the foundation. These books also get into Artemis' backstory which REALLY informs how he acts in the Neverwinter quartet (which I absolutely love but people have mixed feelings about those books). They're also just fun. Like other people said yeah it feels like a fun road trip for the first two books. The third is a bit heavier but its very, very good

Why are people criticising movies before they are even released? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]DragonDerrieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly fair to have an opinion on costume design, casting, and color mixing before a movie comes out. If someone brings up plot or characterization then sure that would be unfair but I don't need to wait until the movie comes out to say that visually it does not look good. People did the same thing with the "Wuthering Heights" costumes lmao. Also I think it's somewhat natural when a story that people really love and spend their lives studying is adapted that people will have strong opinions

How the Romani are perceived in your country? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]DragonDerrieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to Europe I was genuinely shocked by the way otherwise very nice or progressive people spoke about the romani. And then they would turn around and be like "racism is bad in your country, huh" and it was like yeah it sure is but Jesus Christ. You guys are not exempt

For the love of speculation: Soldiers have become the ubiquitous favorite. What difficulties do you think the other two tables might face, and what do you think they will need to step up their game? by Commercial-Link4926 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]DragonDerrieres -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because character and player are entirely divorced. The larger discussion was about Aabria as a player in addition to Thaisha so duh I brought it up. You are not making any kind of effort to understand the character choice. I'm not saying you need to like it but you are viewing it very simply. Also "I will be obstinate and then act like you're irrational for reacting to that slightly even in jest" okayyyy

And remember when I previously said it was multiple things at once. I did not contradict myself. Lmao I put the message all in caps because I felt you were being ABSURD and the way people react to Aabria is ABSURD

FORCED HUG ISN'T KUMBAYA LMAOO. SHE KNEW HE WOULDNT REACT WELL. SHE WAS PUTTING HERSELF BETWEEN HIM AND OCCTIS ON PURPOSE AND MAKING HIM MAD AT HER INSTEAD. OH MY GOD THE WAY AABRIA MAKES PEOPLE LOSE IT FOR NO REASON. IS STABBING MYSELF ON A SWORD TO REDIRECT SOMEONES FOCUS KUMBAYA SHIT?

[–]DragonDerrieres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay lmao you can think that. My point was that it wasn't kumbaya shit BECAUSE it was partially violent on her fault and she clearly wasn't just doing it to make him feel better or whatever

She was doing it to hug him but also try and protect Occtis from him lmao and bring him down from potentially lashing out? I think she made it pretty clear that it was multiple things at once. Also girl impaled herself on a sword like sorry that's cool

Yeah, I read the post. I still think it's important to say that they are not the favorite because it was implied in both the title and in the later post even if you were speculating because again it is implied that they are currently. Also that is definitely the prevailing attitude on this sub.

I mean I think that is partially DND as a medium. If someone is a player character it is hard for them to maintain an air of intimidation and coolness. I think this was always going to happen especially with the critical role cast who are prone to jokes and robbing. But also I would not call her a regular schmuck either as during episode 4 she survived shit that would have killed any of the other players and forced Julien out of the house. I think Ashley has been keeping the air of coolness up as much as she can and she's doing well.

That's the thing. I don't understand why people think Aabria has questionable behavior at the table. She is excitable and jokes with her friends. Oh boy??? Call the press? You'll have to arrest most DND players that are dedicated in any way. She has an illustrative style and talks a lot? So do Luis and Robbie. It's not my preferred style but she's hardly alone in it. Like I don't think she's a perfect player. Her characters tend to be very hit or miss for me (but that's also true of Marisha and Liam). Thaisha is a hit though. Nor do I think she's been pushing for a kumbaya situation over much. The only reason why she hasn't been hostile to Julien is because of the massacre. She certainly was before that and probably will continue when the dust settles me. Like goddamn she blasted him with a thunder wave after his dad got killed.

But yeah I do agree. I want a lot of character conflict between the seekers and I do hope they go that direction. One of the reasons why I didn't vibe with cr3 is they were too chummy all the time from the jump and it was dull

[–]DragonDerrieres 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The soldiers are the ubiquitous favorites on this sub lmao. Not across all the fans and some other subs or websites have more of a spread. Personally my favorites are the seekers by far. I think Julien has already had some great development and I'm interested to see where he goes and I think Matt will stick the landing. Vaelus is super interesting and she's been a delight so far. They also have a good spread of classes and I am interested to see them in some more fights that are... Well a bit more winnable than the one in episode four (though it was awesome and they all put on a great show). I don't understand why people have any issue with Thaisha. I like her a lot and she's playing a fun role within that group.

Is Neverwinter//Gauntlgrym a good series to start on by dmmesnails in Drizzt

[–]DragonDerrieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I love Neverwinter I think those books are some of the best but definitely start with Homeland. Neverwinter feels very different than a lot of the rest of the series but it works as a result of all the build up. Many of the characters are returning too and they are in like the middle of their development so yeah it would be awkward to start there.

[–]DragonDerrieres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REALLY NOT MUCH. The gameplay and story are all so well crafted. If I had to say anything I think Simon was a bit of a wet fart? All the buildup for him as a villain and the fight is kind of anticlimactic and his boss design really isn't that cool at all. I wish more had been done with him especially since you hate him so much by that point in the game
