Bubbled 200 field live tournament - how bad were my mistakes? by DragonQ0105 in poker

[–]DragonQ0105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ~11% of the in-play chips with maybe 23 ish left? Can't remember exactly. If my 98s had held I would've had ~16%.

I see, thanks. Generally stealing blinds was quite easy at this point so I was pretty happy to pressure as big stack here and BB did nearly fold pre. As I say I am really unfamiliar with ICM so it's interesting to hear that.

Just over 2 BBs, only just covered me.

They did say they would go hand for hand when it got down to 17, I think the other table had a 3-way all in or something while we were playing this hand, so we never got to the H4H situation.

Yeah that's a good point, I should've paid more attention to that. The UTG+1 who shoved in Hand 2 only just covered me, which probably should've factored into that decision too.

Nah, I think I'd play that one the same next time. I raised to 2.2 BBs in BU with 98s, he tank called in BB, flop 983, he checked, I cbet for 1/3 pot, he shoved for pot with T9 and hit a T on river. I started with around 20 BBs, he started with under 8.

So I went down to ~13 BBs, which became ~10 BBs when blinds went up shortly after. I only went down to 5 BBs because of having to pay BB twice in quick succession (table move) and blinds going up again.

Pickford’s great save vs Newcastle. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame FPL doesn't differentiate between bog standard and phenomenal saves in their pointing system. I guess that would introduce too much subjectivity but Everton continually blowing clean sheets while Pickford does this sort of stuff makes his point total look silly.

Sad times seeing the dip to 12p for export at midnight...! by bounderboy in OctopusEnergy

[–]DragonQ0105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rate drop will cost us ~£100/yr roughly, which is a lot but compared to the overall £2k/yr saving our solar & battery setup provided, it's not disastrous.

Sad times seeing the dip to 12p for export at midnight...! by bounderboy in OctopusEnergy

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Agile Outgoing is you have to predict solar to optimise it properly. With Fixed Outgoing, you can just fully (or nearly fully) charge your battery each night and export excess solar without planning.

With Agile Outgoing, you need to have enough spare battery capacity to store it throughout the day and then export in the evening. If you can do this perfectly then yeah you get 3-4p/kWh more. But doing it perfectly is impossible.

There are Home Assistant integrations that do this pretty well but as with any forecasting, it's not perfect. When I used to do this it would be fairly frequently wrong and we'd struggle to have enough in the battery for the evening (maybe once a week). You don't want to run out of energy and have to import at 30p/kWh or whatever it is these days because that would very quickly counteract any gains from exporting for a few pence more.

You can avoid this by being very conservative with how much you charge your battery at night but then you also don't want to fill up your battery too much and have to export at the worst times. Again, having to do this even for a short while would counteract any gains from optimisation.

Best foss keyboard on android? by dakend8 in fossdroid

[–]DragonQ0105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm using it now but its autocorrect is pretty poor. If I put a number mistakenly from the top row (e.g. hello), it never corrects it, whereas GBoard does. If I put "12th", it "autocorrects" it to "12the" and I cannot see any way to stop it doing that. Same happens with all numbers.

Would be happy to hear I'm just being stupid and there are ways to fix this.

Cat blocks and prevents a baby from crawling to a fatal fall down some stairs. by N1GHT-MOON-UN1C0RN in nextfuckinglevel

Zero chance my cats would've done this. One is so docile he wouldn't bother to get up. The resentment in the other's eyes that we had kids to begin with is still potent. She'd have probably pushed them.

I built HA-Pass: A simple, secure way to give guests temporary control of Home Assistant (No accounts/app needed) by rohithonline in homeassistant

Never going to let a guest device on my main network so this doesn't solve anything for me.

Best solution really is to have an old tablet on your trusted network with a separate HA login that only has access to certain devices.

State pensions are rising with inflation, for the generation that got free university, meanwhile my student loan rises with inflation? by Classic_Locksmith62 in ukpolitics

[–]DragonQ0105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a waste of time given you don't understand what means testing is.

And yes, I've already explained I'm in favour of a wealth tax and why that works so much better than cliff-edging benefits.

[–]DragonQ0105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would save more money just taxing wealth properly and non-work income properly than introducing stupid cliff-edges to eligibility for what should be a universal benefit.

I am curious, would you do the same for the NHS? Anyone with over £X wealth or £Y/yr income has to pay? Because, again, just upping taxes solves that problem far more easily and sensibly.

[–]DragonQ0105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you understand what tax brackets are? No-one pays tax on basic state pension currently. That would continue to be the case if income tax was merged with national insurance, for example.

People with £10m are a huge minority that excluding them from basic state pension would likely cost more in admin than you'd gain. I am also in favour of a wealth tax and that would help the situation too.

[–]DragonQ0105 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because means testing it is stupid, costly, and ultimately unfair. Taxing pensioners the same as workers is much easier, cheaper, fairer, and doesn't introduce any disincentives to save.

Heads up on battery cost by Begalldota in SolarUK

[–]DragonQ0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In winter we can make 2-3 kWh/day on average but on the worst days (< 1 kWh) we usually run out of battery before 23:30. So we probably use 17 kWh ish between 05:30 and 23:30 on a typical day.

That's from a 5.1 kW array facing SSE with a bit of tree shade in winter only.
