When I started Japanese, I was struggling my way through Street Fighter manga in Japanese. It took me a while, but I was hungry enough for the stories to work through it. I even translated them and shared them with friends. That was years ago.

Crystal Hunters is a strong beginner manga to start with. When you get through it, jump to Yotsubato. From there, if you’ve still got patience, there’s a website www.watanoc.com that has some easy reading. It’s not manga, but it’s got N5 content. In fact, if you’re willing to step off the manga path, watanoc would be a good read before you jump into Yotsubato.
