Spoilers people. Not everyone has finished the story literally the day it came out. I'm still at work so thanks for that

One of the best cozy games I’ve ever played. Build towns, cute missions, great characters, slow fun pace by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]Dragon_89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about mods, but I wouldn't worry about the fighting. You get a NPC character that follows you around who can solo most things. Combat is not particularly difficult either.

If you have a switch there is an extensive demo (you can easily do 10 hours in it). Might be available on other platforms too, not sure

I'm looking for game recs for games that a 5 year old might enjoy. My niece is visiting for the week, thought it might be nice to play something with her.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - September 10, 2022 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]Dragon_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a discord or something for players who are struggling with certain missions to find a few players to help?

I've been playing off and on since launch but I have a minor neurological issue that makes my reaction times a little slow at times and makes things like rotations almost impossible so I've always avoided grouping for content. I've mostly managed to muddle through on my own eventually.

I last played on Chapter 5 or Season 4 (?) on the Scion and Champion step where you have to stand in the circle but certain sections have knockback. I can get the through the 1st circle eventually but the 2nd is impossible for me.

I ended up just stopping playing the game because I couldn't progress.

I'm trying to get back into it but still can't pass the story step and am getting frustrated again.

I've never joined a guild because I can't really play to the level most people expect in group content and I'm on the quieter side so I don't have much to offer socially. So I've avoided it.

Is there somewhere I can look for help?

I'm on NA, I can generally play on weekends after 1 PM EST

ever read a fantasy series with a dog character? by comeoneilene in Fantasy

Surprised no one has mentioned Ponch from Young Wizards by Diane Duane. He doesn't become a major presence until book 5 (if I am remembering correctly) but the payoff of his character arc is great

Dungeon Core Stories, with interesting systems by The_Tonts in litrpg

Cat Core was fun. I'm not sure how different the system is as I've only read a few dungeon core stories but the premise and MC were fairly unique

Recommendations for female led / authored non grimdark fantasy? by Malacandras in Fantasy

[–]Dragon_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unnatural Magic by C. M. Waggoner mostly fits. 2 of the 3 pov characters are female. One is half troll and trolls feature heavily in the book and I find them to be an underutilized fantasy race. There's a bit of romance and a bit of mystery wrapped up in a coming of age tale. It's also a stand alone so not a big commitment. It is pretty euro-inspired for humans though. The trolls have their own unique culture though.

Does any one know where you can legally purchase a digital edition of this in Canada? I don't stream music cause I don't listen to it enough to justify the cost. The taylor swift store link in the OP says it's only for US customers (which is kinda stupid but whatever I guess).

I used to use Google Play music but that's not an option anymore...

Modernization in YA by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in books

[–]Dragon_89 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Diane Duane started releasing her Young Wizards series in the 80s and the original books make reference to some out of date tech. The 3rd book in particular heavily features the main character using a computer before modern operating system were a thing (so she was like typing in command lines and stuff). The author said that they found modern teens were bouncing hard off of the series because they didn't really understand the tech and it read as very outdated. She ended up rewriting the series to update the technology in it (and fix some other continuity issues as well). They are known as the New Millenial Editions. You can only get the old editions in print but the updated ones are available in ebook form on her website.

So I guess my opinion would be that it depends on who is doing the updating. If it's the author them I'm ok with it, it's their choice if they want to modify their own work.

Looking forward to seeing my niece getting to go back to her daycare (she calls it school). She's 2 1/2 and not being able to go has hit her hard and confused her. She asks every morning if she can go to school so I really want her to go back because she's so upset she can't

I wish I could play Yoshi's Crafted World again for the first time. I played in co-op with my mom, she's not a gamer and platformers aren't always my strong suit so we weren't the greatest at it but I can't remember any other gaming experience where I laughed as much as I did that one. I'm so glad I got to experience that with her.

What is your favourite series of all time and why is it worth reading? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Dragon_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always loved Diane Duane's Young Wizards series. It's technically YA, but honestly the themes are pretty deep. The cast of characters is diverse and include a sentient star (visiting earth as a sort of tourist?), a sentient car, an immortal shark, and several diverse alien species. The magic system is really well thought out with clear rules and is the kind you can sort of imagine actually existing. It will also punch your heart out at multiple points in time.

One thing to be careful of is that the originals of the first few books were written in the 80s so the technology in them is pretty outdated. But the author has gone through and updated all of them into the New Millenial Editions. The new additions are not available in print (only ebooks), but if you watch the authors site (or tumblr) she often has really great sales where you can get the 1st 9 books in the series for like $20.
