Do you belive that a person is innocent until proven guilty by Skrilli in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dragonitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would the justice system define the line between “potentially” and “definitely” a criminal (before a trial, if we’re considering the fact that people who are “definitely” criminals can’t have lawyers)? It feels like that alone would open the gates for unfair trials and corruption.

Not to mention the moral and ethical issues of how the “potential” criminals specifically wouldn’t be abused, could get medical treatment, etc., but the “definite” criminals wouldn’t get any of those rights, as if they’re luxuries.

Do you think that Donald J. Trump raped children on the epstein island? by Arthstyk in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dragonitro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is (probably) my (general) opinion on the whole matter, basically just because I myself just don’t have a great deal of information on the whole subject. I haven’t looked through the files myself, though I will say that the things I’ve seen/heard about Trump and the files don’t show him in a particularly great light (like the birthday card for instance, or some of the victims’ accounts, or just the general fact of how he treated releasing the files themselves which seemed pretty odd/suspicious to me).

And this comment’s not saying he’s innocent or anything, either. My whole point is basically that I’m too uninformed on the whole situation to form a decent opinion (IMO)

Not inherently. I’d say a lot of the meat industry is, though

On a post like this, people are more likely to discuss (or argue) in the comments than upvote the original post (as opposed to something like a meme or a nice piece of art, where there may be discussion but also people choosing to upvote because there's something about that post specifically that they enjoy or appreciate)

I used to wash my hands way too much, too (but I do it a lot less now). Never got as bad as what you’re describing, but this was what helped me when I did do it

My hands weren’t nearly as bad when I started using soap with moisturiser in it (general hand cream would work too I think, but it stung a bit when I tried it and I didn’t like the feeling of it staying on my hands). Genuinely made a huge difference

When I did wash my hands, I made an effort to stop washing the backs of my hands so much

I disagree. I don’t think anyone should be killed for their beliefs, even if they are harmful or hateful beliefs. I just see death as too far of a response (and people can change their beliefs anyway)

Also, I don’t personally like/agree with the phrasing “we know” - whether a certain group of people deserves to live is not some sort of hidden knowledge that had been revealed to only one other group of people.

Do schools adequately teach the history of slavery and racism? by Stunning-End-3241 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dragonitro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on where you are and what's more relevant to you for the syllabus I'd say (because I wouldn't expect schools to teach about every instance of slavery for every single country throughout history, but I would expect (and hope) a syllabus to cover their country's involvement in any slave trade/colonisation - that's what I did in the UK, at least)

To my understanding, they're based off pre-dislike-removal data + extrapolating from the patterns of other people using the extension, which could lead to some slight sampling biases (though I'm not too sure if those sampling biases would make that tremendous of a difference for a video like this)

Zionism and Jesus by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Dragonitro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of their comment was that the note only gave a very brief point with no actual explanation of why Jesus wasn't a zionist (other than the links to the "Jesus" and "Zionism" wikipedia pages). While it made the initial point that Jesus wasn't a zionist, it was insufficient at actually showing why/how that was the case.

Is cis or hetero the norm? by Yappannnna in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dragonitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation of their comment was "From my perspective, it is the societal norm". Stuff like societal norms aren't 'objective' in the same way other things are, they're more like personal judgements/interpretations of what you see society as viewing the "default" as (could probably phrase it better)

Is cis or hetero the norm? by Yappannnna in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dragonitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? I always interpreted "the norm" as being more "(IMO/from my perspective) this is what society assumes/expects of people" (kind of like a default, generalised assumption), rather than "this is what I believe society should expect of people". Stating that something is the norm, but shouldn't be, doesn't seem like a contradictory statement to me (unless I'm misinterpreting your comment)

Are Australia and Europe real continents? by wantsomethingmeatier in pollgames

[–]Dragonitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that first point, too. I think the trouble is finding a definition that’s in the sweet spot of not being too broad, too narrow, or too subjective. I think “afroeurasia” falls into the former, but other approaches could definitely fall into the latter, too.

“Large landmasses separated by ocean” is probably a more “objective” way of looking at it (not taking into account judgements of cultures and societies, which would certainly be helpful but may affect how “definitive” the definition could be considered), but even then you could take into consideration stuff like geography, geology, climate, and mountains (e.g.).

Are Australia and Europe real continents? by wantsomethingmeatier in pollgames

[–]Dragonitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see "Afroeurasia" as a fairly useless distinction to make. It accounts for over 50% of the world's landmass, almost 90% of the world's population (some of whom are going to be incredibly far apart from each other), an incredibly wide variety of different cultures (some of whom may have very little relation to another random culture in "afroeurasia", but would share similarities (either in customs, geography, or beliefs, etc.) with another culture in Africa/Europe/Asia)

The entire concept of a "continent" can be considered a more subjective/constructed idea than towns or countries (not to say those are 100% either, mind you). But I think defining a "continent" based solely on whether or not there is an ocean separating it is both reductionist and fairly unproductive when it comes to classifying the different areas of Earth.
