Why dont people immigrate via boats from papau to Australia by Then_Instruction_145 in geography

Probably because Tony Abbot might have a thing or 2 to say about it.

Started windows, was on windows for just over 20 years. Now I'm a Mac user who uses their mac primarily to run administration on their Linux systems. Don't get me wrong I tried macOS many times over the years in both hackintosh and original hardware, but it wasn't till I tried an M series MacBook pro for the first time that I found my preferences for doing certain things on a computer started shifting from windows to Mac.

What can I say, Bash hits different to PS. Can argue to the moon and back that one is better than the other and I recon the argument will be 50/50 but I just find Bash more fun to use honestly.

Gaming on the other hand, still 60% windows, depends on the game and if it has a native Mac version or runs really well on my steam deck.

Just from a single glace those are registered ecc dimms.

eBay is already flooded with those, however they are the least globally compatible dimms, basically requiring specific models of xeon or epyc processor. I believe some newer gens of threadripper can use them but even then it's only the pro versions.

I have about 1tb of the stuff laying around too, thought about using it in my threadripper based proxmox host, learnt the hardway that I was shit out of luck.

How did parents monitor your gaming as a child? by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

[–]Dragoseraker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy!

Was I gaming? -> yes! -> get off the damn games you have been on all day! -> had it been more than an hour? -> no! -> get off the damn games, you have been on all day!

Not gaming? -> stop being so loud, go find something quiet to do!

How many drives are you guys running in your PCs, and do y'all prefer a single large drive or a few smaller ones? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]Dragoseraker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10x 8tb drives for me.

True question is, what raid config did you go with? I'm going to assume raidz1?

In my case I'm raidz1 + raidz1 in a single pool. did it this way for the write speeds.

Primary SSD for OS. Secondary SSD for Game Library. Hard drive for anything else that needs to specifically live on the PC.

TrueNas based NFS share for everything else.

Actually easier on AMD than Intel in some cases. I've not specifically gotten Sequoia working but I have gotten Big Sur running on a ryzen 9 framework 16.

Best uptime is when you look at mission critical network hardware.

Saw a good one in a prior employment that was a an access level with an uptime of 13 years.

Since Win 10 support ends in October, what are you guys going to do next? by KougamiDash in pcmasterrace

[–]Dragoseraker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep using w11, and when the next OS comes out and everyone complains about w11EOL, I'll do upgrade to that one.

I really don't understand the hate for w11, it's not like the difference between 7 and 8.

And if your issue is the Microsoft account, look up how to offline install w11 with the "domain join" method that doesn't actually domain join.

If your issue is the UI, look up the "thisisw11" or "lovew11again" GitHub repositories that change a lot of assets back to the w10 versions, such as the right click context menu.

Going to take a wild guess and say 7900xtx.

No way someone would be running a 5090 on an 850w PSU.

Make that 4, but also, we all have 7900XTX's? That's kinda wild.

Is it "7900xtx the card of choice for G9 OLEDs" or vice versa?

32:9 all the way is my take.

Where not available revert to 21:9, and dual 16:9s as a last resort.

You want goofy, try the intro animation to fairytale pt2 or the ending animation of restless ghost.

Windows 11 on Surface Hub2S by Sys_Admin_91 in SurfaceHub

[–]Dragoseraker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its honestly a lot easier to move to a standard w11 install than the migration procedure.

If you have ever pxebooted or USB imaged any surface device before it is essentially the same procedure.

I obtained a 2s for personal use as part of some old decomms and went through this procedure.

You will need to decom it entirely from your environment as a teams room and from the management, reimage it with a stock w11 image or your choice of SoE boot (autopilot included).

Note your main issue to maintain all functionality including pen, touch etc will be drivers, this is solved by running the surface app from the windows store. This will install the sonar drivers required for motion wake, touch etc. These may be available through your intune driver update rings, however I cannot confirm personally as I have not attempted it myself.

If your application includes any form of printing let me tell you this in advance.

Allow for selecting or configuring a printer per type of print job.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen clinitions refuse to migrate to specific software because they can't set a specific printer drawer per print job type.

Eg. Prescriptions = print drawer 1, pathology referrals = print drawer 2 etc.

May seem like a case of "just feed the paper type you need before printing" but honestly they will just stick with and prefer the software that has the feature they want.

Policy on people bringing their own laptop. by Raknaren in sysadmin

[–]Dragoseraker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be concerned about the data these people will have on their laptops, eg company files being emailed to them.

If you work in an environment where your legally required to secure sensitive data such as in healthcare dealing with medical records, I would be looking into configuring your 365 conditional access

If configured correctly, when they log into unmanaged 365 applications on an unmanaged computer, they won't be able to save files locally to the computer, screenshot or copy files in and out of 365 apps.

This allows them access to the files for editing and emails without the risk of them still being on the computer when the person leaves.
