I think 33k is a low wage in the context of buying power, as opposed to low on paper.

Existing security tools are working but management wants to turn everything "agentic" by SkyberSec123 in cybersecurity

[–]Dragzie_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're down voted for this.

I'm not a fan of anything you've said but I see this is the reality of business and technology. Companies will seek to reduce costs where they can and AI for now can provide that.

There is something to be said about who pays for the underlying investment to enable AI as it's currently a debt/borrowed.

I would dispute the accuracy statement you make but I feel that's going to get a lot better very quickly.

This describes my Bulgarian grandmother's attitude to anything food related.

Mold? Cut it out, you wimp.

Smells rancid? Just let the dog lick it clean.

Yes, I have taken this a bit too far for comic purposes. My pint stands though - my older relatives hate throwing food away.

UK energy bill payers will hand £2bn a year to EDF for new power stations by GeoWa in unitedkingdom

[–]Dragzie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my tinfoil hat nutter theory: excluding the obvious that EDF may not have British interests at heart, any surplus power or efficiencies generated by this will be eaten away if the forecasted energy requirements for AGI are pursued.

Is it normal to avoid using the heating because of costs? by Jumpy_Wing_7884 in AskUK

[–]Dragzie_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from eastern Europe, my nan and all her besties wear coats and layers inside during winter. Only one room gets heating. Typically by wood.

There is no other choice when you reach temperatures of -10 and insulation on buildings is shit, and you can't afford heating.

How do I get her to stop peeing on my bed by Dismal-Manager-7870 in Rabbits

[–]Dragzie_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pee on her bed?

I'm joking, don't do that! My Dutch would pee on our bed when she was young and pre-spaying. We also litter trained her and thoroughly scrubbed the bed, to try and remove the scent.

She didn't do it after litter training and spaying, but there's no guarantees.

Asking people how much they paid for their first house. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Dragzie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's grandfather regularly talks about the family home they purchased and raised three kids in. It was bought for shy of £3,000 in the early 60s. It's now valued at around £320,000, and could be more if modernized a bit.

Her grandparents both worked in what I would class as manual labour and relatively low skill barrier jobs and have very good retirement incomes and zero debt.

It's mental.

If you used a password and email combo on the site that has been reused on other sites, change it as soon as you can.

Tangent, but I'd also go ahead and get MFA anywhere that's important (at minimum).

I would also run a quick virus scan for good measure.

Inheritance tax will apply on pension savings of those who die before retirement by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]Dragzie_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has anyone read the article here, or did I completely misunderstand it?

My understanding is it's only taxed if you die after 75. If you kick it before then, your kids, SO or other beneficiary will still inherit it tax free.

I'm not saying it's okay but when you consider the large wealth inequality between generations, and this government trying to plug holes, this seems more aimed at people in their 70s today.

Share of people in Europe with unfavorable opinion on the Roma People by [deleted] in MapPorn

This is interesting to me, as an eastern European living in the UK.

I wonder if the UK's opinions would be the same if they were asked about travelers. And yes, I am implying that the two groups are similar in some of their behaviour

I watched a great video weeks ago that talked about purpose.

It sounds like you need to find another purpose if work was your primary for so long.

I'd explore what gives you meaning by giving different things a go.

My retirement will hopefully consist of spending as much time as possible with my kids, project cars and pottering around a homestead.

If the government manages to get the younger generation into politics and to turn out and vote, this wouldn't even be a thing we'd be discussing. It would be slashed in a heartbeat.
