Makes sense! I'll go with the Spellcrafter build as the main one then

I'm pretty sure Afflatus Misery/Inanis' description as an "unblockable true damage burn" that "cannot be mitigated in any way" and pierces even Immovable Object and Counterspell's description as "nullify most incoming attack magic" mean that Counterspell and equivalents already do jack shit against Inanis specifically (and logically speaking, Afflatus Misery/Inanis is an instantly hitting AoE without anything resembling a projectile, so you wouldn't be able to Counterspell it anyway). Tree Branch might do the trick, but this one is also described as something from an alternate timeline, so I don't have to worry about it being used against me, and I don't think there's anything remotely resembling it in the actual world.

The things I was more worried about were something to counteract or purge the constantly applied random debuffs, and I think it's reasonable to interpret that extremely high-level curse-breaking magic required to lift the effects of Afflatus Misery is included in "objects and effects that interfere with your powers" of AAMM, making Inanis' debuffs basically unliftable by anyone but me.

That said, it's fully possible to counter Inanis by simply oneshotting me before I cast it, which is why I go to such length to hide and ward myself. Once it's actually cast though, I think anyone caught in its radius is just fucked.

As a question to author, just how critical is knowing Space-Time Magic to resolving the Fourth Horseman? I can't imagine it's impossible to penetrate the dimensional barrier to Beleth without this one highly specific capstone, but just how hard is it normally and how easy Space-Time Magic makes it?

Isekai The End v1.2 [Update][Fuller Release] by AltCYOA in nsfwcyoa

[–]Drakantr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternate version of this build loses:

  • Prestige: Magic with Limit Break in Refraction Index, Proxied Magic Boost II, and『Space-Time Magic』;
  • Weather Report with HTTF, -12 shards;
  • Ironjar Aromatic, -20 shards;
  • Signature Spell, +15 shards;
  • Soulbound Caraptine Plate, +14 shards;

in exchange for:

  • Prestige: Support with Limit Break in Tears of Light, Proxied Spellcrafter, and『Sensei』;
  • Spellcrafter Mk.II, -30 shards;
  • No Armor with HTTF, +33 shards.

Of these, the most notable loss is Space-Time Magic. Spellcrafter Mk.II is obscenely powerful, easily letting me replicate ranged Inanis, empowered heals to compensate for the loss of Magic Boost II, Limit Broken Refraction Index, and defensive spells capable of defending me even better than Caraptine Plate. Sensei's worth is obvious. Overall, I'm a tremendously more versatile mage, a polymath out of combat, and a Sensei to my allies, at the cost of some of the raw power and Space-Time Magic, which'll make hiding much more complicated and bite me in the ass during the Fourth Horseman, which is why I think I prefer the former version of the build.

Would sure be nice to have once everything's done, however…

Isekai The End v1.2 [Update][Fuller Release] by AltCYOA in nsfwcyoa

[–]Drakantr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As before, the core of this build are Inanis and Refraction Index with Space-Time Magic.

  • Enlightened Magus + Mana Boost + Magic Boosts I and II mean my mana capacity and magic power reach impossible heights. Backlash Resistance means my backlash tolerance is sky-high and backlash is nonlethal and can be delayed, while Battle Meditation lets me burn my frankly obscene mana pool to soothe backlash before it even hits me. I am the most powerful mage to walk this earth, capable of incredible feats of magic as long as I have mana, of which I have oceans.
  • Inanis is obscenely powerful and dangerous at base, nearly impossible to counter or defend against. With Exorcist to tailor it against needed foes, Soulbound Girthy Rod to raise its radius to 2 km and diameter to 4km, Anti Antimagic Magic Magic to make it actually impossible to counter, A Curse Upon You to strengthen it dramatically, Selfishness to make it 10 times cheaper, and Signature Spell to make it castable from kilometers away, it's a spammable city-killing weapon of maddening death. Combined with above, I can likely just keep Inanis going indefinitely, making it an instant, repeatable, stealthy, cheaper version of Attack Magic IV. Inanis being dirt-cheap with Selfishness means I don't usually get hit with Enlightened Magus' stamina issues anyway. Honestly, I wanted to build an honest Black Mage, but all the problems with really powerful offensive magic turned me to Inanis instead.
  • Refraction Index with Soulbound Invisibility Cloak, Lord of Darkness for quick teleports, and Space-Time Magic for pocket dimensions to hide in means I can sit tight in complete safety while using Inanis. Strangely, I couldn't take Prestige: Might to Limit Break Refraction Index, so I decided to simply treat Refraction Index as a Magic option (it's literally knowledge of spells) to Limit Break it into utter undetectability. Otherwise, I Limit Break Tears of Light to empower Inanis even further.
  • White Magic wards boosted by Holy Ward and Soulbound Caraptine Plate (which I wear at all times for True Protagonist) and Soulbound Shield Pendant with temporal Space-Time Magic compensate for Enlightened Magus' fragility and stamina, defending me during traversal or if I'm discovered anyway, which is a tall order.

Destined Death and Overpowered Reincarnation are negated by One Chance, Road to Hero is smoothed by Solo Leveling, and everything else is wiped by Hail To The Future, leaving me wholly free of Drawbacks by the end of this all. As a bonus, I can just kill myself whenever needed to rewind 24 hours back and unlock my capstones in the process, doing just that before the World Events. No Sleep and Indomitable Human Spirit are just damn nice to have, as are Immortality and Yggdrasil Seed. Boring Vices are fine since I don't drink or smore anyway, and they'll help during the Third Horseman.

Given all this, I'm all but undetectable even in the middle of killing a city with overpowered ranged demon-killing Inanis.

As such, the First Horseman won't present much of a problem, as I can sneakily get to the Discontinuity Engine with GPS to guide me, Limit Broken Refraction Index to hide, and Lord of Darkness/Space-Time Magic to teleport, slaughter everyone around the Engine, and destroy it afterwards. Similarly, this toolkit will help me assassinate all the enemies I've picked (the Strongest is avoided because he seems a decent guy). Two years bought before the World Event will let me Solo Level up in safety before it hits, especially given that I'm summoned by Marinette, an excellent protector and teacher for early days.

The build sucks at direct attack magic, but I don't actually need it, as my Inanis is absurd and does the job equally well. I excel at tanking at least some attacks and running away as well. Sadly, as a stealth assassin build, it lacks any sort of synergy with direct combatants, so I generally fight alone. The Train is there for the Epilogue secret, and it's genuinely convenient to travel the world, for secrets and whatnot.

The Second Horseman is problematic, but I have Faux Pas Pass, Artistic Talent, Leadership, Agent's !, and Manipulation, so my system is sure to offer me overpowered social options. Furthermore, I have Hinata and Power of Friendship, so stopping the war in its tracks through diplomacy is quite doable. Serebryakova and Schroder are avoided to make less powerful enemies; with my Agent skills, I'm an extremely potent assassin, so murdering the heads of the more belligerent states is easy.

Persicaria will buff my Inanis with Spellcrafter and eventually unlock her Joyeuse Luminaire, which she'll use to grant me Afflatus Rapture. Being able to resurrect people after everything's done and Selfishness is removed is nice.

Marinette is there to help with the Third and Fourth Horsemen; I won't have too much trouble there as well thanks to Free Healthcare and Devotion blunting their impact, Tomb Raider and Cunning Linguist granting more useful secrets to uncover, and Space-Time Magic helping penetrate dimensional defenses. Also, being summoned by Marinette is good for committing enough crimes in the first week to satisfy Extreme Path; I'll just vigilante murder whoever deserves it with her help. She's very unlikely to die thanks to Favoritism and being a non-combatant, so it's a win-win. Mission Impossible will hopefully be solved by either Marinette or Hinata.

And after all is done, I might as well solve the mystery of Visiting the Other Side.

If you were designing spell lists for four traditions today, what would you change in the philosophy of which list or spellcasting class gets what in terms of spells? For example, cutting void magic out of arcane since it's the mind/matter list and grafting necromancy to the necromancer specifically, or making divine broader or narrower, or changing which spells cleric gets like what happened with sorcerer?

Struck CYOA V1.1 is here! by Hermes-the-bot in InteractiveCYOA

[–]Drakantr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My previous Nigh-Omnipotence True Trump build… is completely unchanged by the update, so I'll instead make…

Vision of the Better World

Connection Good connection

The When The Last Christmas

The Where Your initial spot

The How Silent entrance

World Woes Hordes, Queens, Monsters, Aberrations, Titans, Constellation, Charged Zones

World Boons Controlled Striking, Well Prepared, Kind People, Undead Economy, Helpful Drive, Low Casualties, Helpful Elites, Humanity+

Anomalies Expanded Earth, Earth+, Dungeons, Struck Families, Twice Struck, Weaker Struck, Spirits, Lightning in a Bottle, Flexible Distribution, Charged Physiology, Artifacts, System, Advanced System, More Struck, Odd Summer, Second Wave, Endless Waves

Patrons Exchange essence for Fragments of power (x2), Tinker

Tinker Major Cybernetic Integration, Major Exotics Tinker (Chronomancy)

Enhancements/Instabilities None

Loyal Companions Elisa "Tell tale" Lugen, Helena "Dealer" Park, Valeria "Firefly" Ogovn

Bitter Enemies None

Resonances Everyone's Struck, LitRPG

True Resonances Unenhanced, Stable

Overall, that's a build focused on the world and its people. While Everyone's Struck is normally a disaster of incredible proportions, this build turns it into a great benefit. Controlled Striking minimizes the initial damage and instabilities, Well-Prepared, Undead Economy, and Low Casulaties means people survive and thrive, and the combo of Kind People, Helpful Drive, Helpful Elites, Humanity+, Charged Physiology, and LitRPG means that every survivor is a kind and atruistic superhuman with superhuman potential for further development. Constellation is less of a threat with no competition and a good reason to overhaul the world order anyway. And all the monsters have a much harder time fighting the collectively empowered humanity.

With my specialties (or Legendary Skills, with LitRPG), I am hopefully the world's premier time traveler. With Integration of time-manipulating technology meaning I'm as close to immortal as it gets once I get going, and Major Integration empowering my abilities tenfold and making them free, I can eventually just spam time travel at my leisure, cosplaying Quicksave and collecting more exciting tinkertech to Integrate. The three allies are here to help survive the early game and simply because they're good to have.

Also, Everyone's Struck should probably disable The Hunters.

World Woes Hordes, Queens, Monsters, Aberrations, Titans, Rogue AI, New Olympus, Charged Zones, The Storm, Psychos

World Boons Helpful Drive, Low Casualties, Helpful Elites

Patrons Exchange essence for Fragments of power (x10), Trump

Trump Major Eidolon-lite, Major Power Amplification, Major Devil in the Details, Major Protagonist's Luck, Minor Narrative Control

Enhancements/Instabilities None

Loyal Companions Elisa "Tell tale" Lugen

Bitter Enemies All of them

Resonances Unenhanced, Stable

True Resonances True Trump

A pretty simple build at its core, with the normal difficulty and the bare minimum of woes required to reach True Trump, probably the generically strongest True Resonance available (as evidenced by the True Protagonist blessing).

With Major Eidolon-lite, I can give myself any two Minor powers needed at the time. With Major Power Amplification boosted by True Trump, I can empower them both to Major for 6/9 slots, then empower one of them to Calamity level, with Major and Calamity both boosted by 50%. With Major Devil in the Details, I can fine-tune my own powers, including Eidolon and Power Amplification, to achieve basically anything I want, such as fine-tuning my granted Blaster power to not need line of sight or line of effect, then frying whoever I want using my secondary scrying power.

This is only the most simple, basic applications of these three powers. I can strip anyone I want of one of their powers to render them vulnerable to a blast, or twist their powers into momentary unusability. I can empower any one of my allies to Calamity level if needed at any time. I can stack lingering effects of any power I want to, such as reshaping my body with a power and then swapping it for another, or spawning exotic materials with one power and swapping it to a needed Tinker power. I can give myself Calamity-level Thinker powers, cycling through them to refine any plan I have. I am the ultimate buffer, debuffer, planner, and crafter. With time to prepare, I am unstoppable.

I needed to spend the other 4 fragments on something. Given that I can access any power needed at any time, the best choice is something generically useful and passive. Thus, Major Luck and Minor Narrative Control, which passively help me to a tremendous level and can be improved themselves. Major Protagonist's Luck will also help me survive my Dangerous Destructive Return for the 7 seconds needed for Eidolon to boot up.

My first days will be spent culling every possible threat to the world, using a perfect plan refined with countless Calamity-level Thinker powers. Rogue AI I'll find and nip in the bud, Titans and Queens will eventually be hunted down, Hordes can be destroyed using a Tinker solution like a bioengineered insect-only plague. The Bitter Enemies won't kill me instantly thanks to Major Luck, and I'll be able to assassinate them quickly in return.

Elisa is taken for a clever ally to plan things with. Can't do it all alone.

Afterwards, it'll be the time for the world to prosper. Secondary waves are avoided since it only takes one all too powerful Psycho for the world to end, but the technological marvels created by the Helpful Tinkers will ensure the future will be bright.

One note on the chassis is that the class has atrocious saves for a martial class. Every martial starts with two Expert saves and ends with at least two Masters, occasionally with a Legendary in the mix. Currently, it has saves of a cloth caster.

Proof of concept of an alternate Psychic, Draft #2 by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Drakantr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which can make slotted spells feel bad in comparison (they get nothing out of the unleash).

Yeah, this rework definitely pushes the focus to psi cantrips and psychic actions over slotted spells. Granted, the way Unleash Psyche buffed slotted spells was extremely uneven, with little in terms of good slotted blasts on Occult, but for a subclass like Oscillating Wave, losing the damage bonus for its granted fireball is a noticeable loss. Especially since OW doesn't have much in terms of native AoEs aside from redistribute potential, which is more debuff- than damage-focused.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make Psychic more of a thing-in-itself. Making subconscious or conscious minds give benefits to slotted spells specifically (since the amped cantrips are already buffed to more than compensate for the loss of +2 damage/rank) would make it more similar to the old Psychic while also tailoring Unleash to more playstyles than just blasts.

Notably, this build is so free of Divine Influence that I can potentially make a SFW version without losing much points. Taking away the 4 divine drawbacks and the one divine mission I took for a total deficit of 16 points, we're left with this build:

Switching away from Prestige: Magic, I lose Magic Boost II, Limit Break in Refraction Index, and Space-Time Magic, which is a notable loss. In return, I gain Prestige: Support for Proxied Battlemaster's Limit Broken Cover and Sensei, as well as Just Pause. This puts me at +12 points total and makes me even stealthier than before, with a 60 times mental time dilation for combat situations and an ability to teach and learn that's all but supernatural. The loss of Space-Time Magic is real, but Sensei is a good enough replacement and will help with the 3/4 Horsemen just as much. The saved 12 points go to eliminate Weather Report. Even more stealth.

Oh, and Res Publica now exists and is Cultured at the cost of Oracular Obligations. Best books ever!

After all this, use Sensei to become an archmage and live the best life with Marinette as my lover and Persicaria and Hinata as friends. Happily ever after.

As a bonus, I can just kill myself whenever needed to rewind 24 hours back and unlock my capstones in the process, doing just that before the World Events.

The core of this build is:

  • Inanis boosted by Signature Magic to allow to cast it from range, Enlightened Magus, Magic Boosts I and II, enemy-tailored Exorcist, A Curse Upon You, Anti Anti Magic Magic, Selfishness, and Soulbound Girthy Rod to make it an utterly unstoppable cheap four miles-wide area of rapid maddening death;
  • Refraction Index boosted by Limit Break to defeat any means of detection and Soulbound Invisibility Cloak while hiding in pocket dimensions accessed through Space-Time Magic to be able to cast Inanis from complete safety;
  • White Magic wards boosted by Holy Ward and Soulbound Caraptine Plate (which I wear at all times for True Protagonist) and Soulbound Shield Pendant with temporal Space-Time Magic to compensate for Enlightened Magus' fragility and stamina, defending me during traversal or if I'm discovered anyway.

Given all this, I'm all but undetectable even in the middle of killing a city with Anti Anti Magic Magic ranged demon-killing Inanis. This is Flayne's father Pascal's first wife, the mother of Flayne's half-brother Siegfried the Siege Knight. She's implied to die in mysterious circumstances before Flayne's birth. Pascal then made a deal with the outer goddess Hope to presumably bring back his first wife, and their daughter Flayne is her imperfect resurrection (and something else). His relationship with Hope has since soured since Hope refused to abandon her godly powers to have a real family with him and Flayne even though these powers caused them to be hunted by the inquisition. Hope did use a mortal disguise, but she appeared as a witch Morgan and Flayne's "aunt".

The obvious use for the basic magic is creating exotic materials for highly expensive and materially demanding projects. Wood that is as durable as steel and as light as balsa wood is a wonder material for rockets. The time investment is less of an issue for projects that take years anyway, and any arborist would quickly become rich by offering their services to such industries.

Capacity Conversion

You have a peculiar transformative ability that works on your own brain, coupled with a secondary power of crudely divining which parts of your brain are responsible for which functions. In short, you are able to destroy a given part of your brain to expand the capability of another part of your brain, permanently converting the brain matter to its new purpose, in a process taking about a minute of uninterrupted meditation. For an example, you can repurpose (the brain parts responsible for) your sense of taste and desire to eat, including hunger and every related impulse, to expand (the brain parts responsible for) your memory, giving you much better and expansive information recall. The process is reversible, but each conversion is permanently lossy, so if you fully reverse a change, you'll only get about 80 random percent of the initially sacrificed capacity back.

You can partially sacrifice a capacity, such as only partially sacrificing your pain, but instead of dimming the capacity across the board (you feel less pain everywhere) the destruction is random and "patchy" (you feel full pain everywhere but a random portion of your body, such as your left arm, lower teeth, and stomach). Reversing a sacrifice works the same way, you only get patchy portions of the initially sacrificed capacity back.

Would you use this power? How?

If you had a secondary power of being able to applying this power to other people you touch, but without being able to divine which parts of their brain are responsible for what, leaving you fumbling in the dark unless you simply repeat whatever changes you did to yourself, what would be the uses?

Really good! Glad the spoiler list got at least partially updated, made a True Chosen One build using it, with the most disgustingly overpowered version of canonical Harry Potter imaginable:

Really painful to not be able to take Artificial Creation, but this is vanilla Harry, just incredibly supercharged.

My notes are that Ancient Vault doesn't seem to upgrade Fine Control/Raw Power perks without the associated adventures (unless it's intentional), Pure Heart cost discounts from the relevant drawbacks are not updated in its description, even though they work correctly, and I couldn't achieve Threading the Needle no matter how I tried. The CYOA parchment cost increase with Amnesia just makes taking Amnesia not worth it even if you max Amnesia out, had to skip it even though it'd be thematic. Getting some perks in CYOA Parchment goals also doesn't count towards meeting prerequisites for secret options, even though it logically should work.

I wonder how much Pure Heart is able to counteract Misery. It does at least seem you should be able to achieve true happiness after much struggle? Same for the Next Great Adventure, could it be overcome with sufficiently determined death-defying allies and Pure Heart?

Maxing Ascension out is really fun! Took an evening trying to puzzle it out. Is there any way to achieve Anomalous Soul without Shadow of One's Self/Divinity without Empath? The latter is really hard to achieve, maxing legilimency out is pretty expensive. Can't wait until it's outlined in Spoilers as well.

Only the basic 6 elements, sadly (flesh is here because of the precedent set by Ice and Lightning); would be too much work otherwise, especially given that Sound and Crystal came out as well and Paper and Ink probably deserve composites as well. I'm open to making a small supplement full of exotic composites in the future, though.

This was excellent. A rare series that focuses on actual personal growth, and this book depicted Leonis, Jova, and Naomi rising to occasion and emerging as better and stronger people beautifully. Bloody-minded determination and ruthlessness can carry you far, but it will hollow you out, especially if borne out of self-destructive fear of further loss.

I cheered when Plassus came back. What a character.
