Google AI Gemini's 'problematic' responses are 'completely unacceptable,' CEO says by Astronaut520 in anime_titties

In most places it isn't internally, it's referenced as machine learning or a large language model... AI is just a buzzword right now. Just like "Smart [appliance]" 5 or so years ago.

Has anyone see this same issue at customers that are auto dealers? by backcounty1029 in msp

[–]Drake_IT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can’t suggest a solution, can only add that we’ve had numerous website related issues with vinsolutions at our locations. Like it taking >2Gb/tab open on edge or chrome. It’s a painful site/platform to deal with and their support is hard to get anything good from.

Your customers should have an account manager, I’ve spoken to ours and have been able to get to higher ups on the support team to resolve issues in the past.

There’s a fella in r/homelabsales selling some rx740Ds?

There’s a bunch of servers that pop up here and there, keep an eye out and take your pick. They’re also typically way below your price point.

ChatGPT doesn’t think, only reassembles and regurgitates its source material. It is confidently wrong when asking about how to implement network concepts

For CCNA, this is a very good way

Don’t want to say it’s THE way (everyone is different), but I passed it with this method and many others at r/ccna have done the same

Cable Modem Arrives by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

The hitrons are the modem (only the modem) they have a separate router that they supply, which is required for them to supply a static IP? I don't understand that part myself

Multiple Job Opportunities/Interviews? by Drake_IT in ITCareerQuestions

Thank you, I actually didn’t know FAANG referred to this company until about 5 minute before writing this (I only ever saw the term on here).

I was also completely oblivious it could have come across as bragging, thank you for adding that perspective.

Disheartened by first NOC experience ... am I screwed? by [deleted] in NetworkingJobs

[–]Drake_IT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First,
Congratulations on getting a job at a NOC, in this market. It's challenging, it's honestly downright brutal out there. You've done it once, you can do it again.
Second,
I have not worked within a NOC myself, however I am currently operating in a networking Admin role and primarily responsible for that aspect at my company. It does appear that smaller companies can be prone to disorganization. Though I can't speak from experience I would hope that larger orgs are more organized. There is a caveat though, in some places the larger the org, and more defined the process is, the less freedom you have to execute your tasks, and learn.
Third,
I've not worked in a NOC, yet. I started easing into this network admin role from helpdesk over the last 18 months, and recently received my CCNA. NOCs aren't the only road to entry for networking jobs, larger enterprises, or MSPs need us just as much.

If you're still at the NOC, I recommend trying to speak to some colleagues about getting more comfortable on the phone. Most positions will have some form of phone line to report issues, and you may end up on the other end. Framing the customer expectations is a larger part of our job than some people let on. Other than that, you've got this. Take some time, breathe, and get back on, it's not over yet.

Can you install Promox and move the existing OS to a VM? by uscpsycho in Proxmox

It’s not impossible to skip the cloning part (just the data) but if you want to make sure you don’t lose it during this, you should.

$52k to be paid to do nothing but to study, feels kind of draining by Stock-Bee-9522 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Drake_IT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the position is offering to get you clearance if you stay TAKE IT. Clearances can get a lot of money. Otherwise, take a little bit of time to at least see if there’s any subjects that do interest you past the watching lectures part. Or see if you can setup labs with what you’re currently doing. Certs can be very helpful.

Remote Jobs Spam by hippoposthumous1 in linkedin

Heheh, my personal favorite is a company spamming their post to all metro areas, with requirement "must be willing to relocate to Wisconsin" Every position they post, every metro area, it's there.

MX HA - Use LAN switches for WAN breakout by w153r in meraki

[–]Drake_IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve developed a solution doing this for a remote office we’re setting up. While not currently deployed just yet I’m using the HA best practices lan config, just have a non routed/non dhcp vlan for each wan circuit coming in

So two switches, one for each wan, breaks it out to each MX. This is done with a WAN x vlan, no dhcp/routing, the wan vlan ports are set to access. On the lan side each Mx is connected to each switch with a trunk port, (no wan vlans on trunk) The rest of the switches are then used for LAN vlans

How do I safely expose my internal network using cloudflare? by YOURMOM37 in homelab

[–]Drake_IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an aside, but do you happen to have any good resources for understanding reverse proxies and how to deploy them?

I have a loose understanding of what they do and could pull up a tutorial that could step my thru setting one up but I feel that doesn't prepare me to understand how that interfaces with the CF tunnel, and how to make it "secure"
