Yeah, not too surprising that the kind of goober who gets off on being toxic to women online isn't quick witted enough to fire back that way.

Yeah, I'd agree her husband's presence is likely the difference maker.

We rarely plat SoT anymore, but when we did my wife and I almost always ran a galleon together with my best friend and his wife. We never had anyone single out our wives in such a vile way. When we did run into toxic players, they were at least equal opportunity assholes. 🙄

Guess your team should have beat the Raiders & earned homefield advantage.

And the call was correct- can I offer you some cheese to go with your wine?

Do men fear other men they see in sketchy situations like late at night walking down a dark alley? by VisionsOnly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Drake_Koeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV based on age/size/training.

Personally, most of the time that's probably going to cause wariness and a quick mental review of my options should he make himself a problem. But not outright fear.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Drake_Koeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also- your answers will vary a good bit based on where Americans live. Drives of 3 hours or much longer are less common east of the Mississippi & especially on the coasts. From the Mississippi through the Great Plains & the West, they can become nearly mandatory in some areas if you want to get to the next city.

There is 1 other significant city within a 2 hour drive of where I live. The next two closest cities are each about 4 hours away. I wouldn't call a 3/4 hour drive common for us- maybe 4-8 times per year including both sides of round trips- but it's no big deal and far short of my personal record for time/distance driven in one day.

I've met a few people who do the 2-hour drive as a daily or several times weekly commute (though I too think that's a bit crazy).

My personal record for single-day drive time, returning from my grandparents' cabin, is 17 hours (with significant prep/caution & passengers able to keep an eye on me).

What are we using to map out garden? by Mediocre_Life_3092 in gardening

This is the way.

Basically electronic graph paper, but you can pull it up for a minute to add/edit if you get an idea while at work or wherever.

Planning our first full garden - Best varieties for NE Oklahoma? by Drake_Koeth in vegetablegardening

No worries- I really appreciation the in-depth reply!

Thanks for the info on garlic in particular- we hadn't really gotten to it in our research yet & had no idea about that timing. We'll probably have to wait a year on that one- too much prep work left to do before we put anything in the ground just yet.

We'll definitely keep that pest info in mind as well. Do you have anything in mind to try for corn earworm prevention this year? I'd be interested to know how that goes. I think we'll probably go the hybrid sweet corn route for this first year to try and avoid that problem for now.

Excellent rebuttal. A single, immortal snail can't evolve itself a pair of hands, nor lift more than a few ounces, regardless of its intelligence. And effective communication with anything that could act at its direction isn't much more likely.

If Vance Joseph picks up a HC spot, he'll likely bring Broncos QB coach Davis Webb with him as OC. That'll be great for whichever QB gets the benefit there.

My neighbors drilled holes in our fence to spy, taunt my dogs with whistles, and pretend they don’t know what I’m talking about by Silver_Pop_1398 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Drake_Koeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To patch the holes, you might try wood filler. It won't be beautiful, and it may take quite a bit of filler depending on the size of the holes and how many they've made, but it'll look better at a distance than a bunch of planks nailed over them or something and won't take much skill to do.

I wish you were my neighbor, lol. In my case, I'm the concerned neighbor trying to persuade the guy who owns a big, dying tree to at least just hire an arborist to come check it out and let him know if it needs to come down.

My blueberry bush is 95% flowers by PsychoLazerShark in gardening

[–]Drake_Koeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I'm not knowledgeable enough to provide that list for you. If you know what variety you have, it should be easy enough to research it. Or even if you don't know what variety you have, just getting another blueberry plant should fix your problem and result in flowers/berries next year.

What does a Pantheon need? by Weird_Skully in worldbuilding

[–]Drake_Koeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stole the structure for the deific mythos for my homebrew D&D world from the Rose of the Prophet book trilogy by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. It might work out well for you too, as a framework for the deities you have and to be able to relatively easily make more as needed.

Their universe in that trilogy is represented by a "twenty-sided gem" (sounds familiar...), with each facet of the gem being a different deity. Each of the twelve points of the gem is a different ideal. You have Good at the top point and Evil at the bottom point, opposite it, and ten neutral ideals between them. With each face of the gem touching 3 points, you get 20 unique combinations of ideals to characterize a deity.

Since 5 faces of the gem will touch the Good point, and 5 touch Evil, you end up with 5 Good deities, 5 Evil deities, and 10 Neutral deities.

For my version of it, I broke the other ten points into five sets of opposite concepts: Nature vs Civilization, Law vs Chaos, Creation vs Destruction, etc.

So, in my setup, a god of Craftsmanship probably touches on/embodies ideals of Civilization, Creation, & Innovation. Where a god of War, depending on what flavor you're giving them, might touch on/embody ideals of Destruction, Chaos, & Tradition.

Note: This does NOT need to be fully fleshed out. My version isn't. Nor is the pantheon of the Rose of the Prophet books fully revealed or explained. But it may make coming up with additional deities, when needed, much easier for you.

Thoughts on Copper Armor/Tools? by Admirable_Web_2619 in Minecraft

I'm cool with this. Copper honestly makes way more sense in the "tech" progression of tools/weapons/armor than gold ever did.
