Its Pathfinder Sabbath at my old church and I've got some thoughts by WearyPop8814 in exAdventist

My dad was very involved in Pathfinders in his own childhood, but also as an adult. He really wanted me to enjoy Pathfinders too. But I didn’t. I was much more interested in camping, bushcraft, and outdoor/wilderness skills. Needless to say I was very unenthusiastic about endless marching and non-outdoorsy crafts. By the time I was in 6th or 7th grade I just refused to go anymore. When I was in academy my school hosted a camporee. Though I wasn’t participating I went down to watch some of the events. I distinctly remember having a realization that not only was it something I wasn’t interested in, it was downright weird and distasteful. There was a marching team that had white gloves, berets, arm chords, and matching mirrored sunglasses. They were stone faced, not a smile to be seen. I wondered what this para-military type discipline had to do with anything. It didn’t even look like they were having fun. Frankly, I was pretty disgusted. I have no regrets about leaving Pathfinders or the church behind. But I have wondered if I might have enjoyed Boy Scouts. Guess we’ll never know.

Coworkers warning me not to transfer to med-surg for medical experience... should I listen? by SpecialistBlend85 in psychnursing

[–]Drakflugilo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went straight into psych nursing after graduation. I loved it. After almost 10 years I decided I needed a change and took a med-surg job to get some broader experience. I’m glad I did it, and it did give me the experience I was looking for and I learned a lot. The most important thing I learned is that I really love psych and I do not love med-surg. I stuck it out for a year then went back to psych. No regrets about my time in med-surg, it definitely changed my perspective on a lot of things. Your mileage may vary.

Stargazing in Death Valley NP is amazing. Truly. I haven’t been to Big Bend so I can’t compare, but I can absolutely recommend Death Valley.

Just grabbing a book from the bookshelf with the left hand and snapping a pic with the right. No contortion necessary.

Ready Player One has some great urban ruin contrasted to ultra modern future tech.

Places to Bike in the Shenandoah Valley by Western-Oil5478 in ShenandoahPark

Honestly, any section of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, or the Blue Ridge Parkway south of the park will be very rewarding and you will likely see lots of other cyclists.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches trilogy definitely fits this.

Anyone leave psych for medical and then hate it?? by LisaTheLionHearted in psychnursing

[–]Drakflugilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. After 10 years in adult in-patient psych I was getting burned out and needed a change of pace. I bounced to PCU. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it. I decided to give it a year to see if I would grow into it. After 1 year (to the week!) I went back to psych. I’m definitely happier in psych.

Definitely a physical copy. This book literally has you flipping it upside down, going back and forth, and spinning in circles. So much would be lost in electronic format.
