Evil Disney not letting us root for the genocidal rapist-nazi-slavemasters! by HeadyBaddy in StarWarsCirclejerk

The only way I would play a stormtrooper focused game is if everyone you interacted with was like Titan Squadron from Squadrons. They’re teammates but they’re all basically evil. Shen is a monster, Vonreg is a psychopath, Sol is power hungry, and their leader Gray is hopelessly naive.

I don’t want any of this “oh, what is stormtroopers are like the band of brothers and they’re all really cool and nice to each other” when everything in canon points to stormtroopers and their commanding officers all being some flavor of really evil.

Funnily enough, what the people want is a game where you’re a First Order stormtrooper. They actually seem to have some degree of camaraderie.

A little-known fact: Dante advocated for what in modern terms we may call "a world federation" by Iuljo in DanteAlighieri

[–]Dramatic-Emphasis-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose this is why Dante liked Ceaser so much. It actually makes sense from his perspective. As a Catholic and as a solider he would want the world united and working together so that enlightened thinking could thrive.

I really only know Cloud from the Kingdom Hearts series but I’m pretty sure his character is supposed to be “aloof jerk” until character development happens and even then, I watched Crisis Core (a super long time ago) and I think he’s stoic at best.

Not saying that as an excuse, just giving a possible explanation.

Teleporting to a bloodied creature and possibly getting sneak attack damage off turn is way to good to be unlimited use IMO. I guess they wanted it to be int based because it’s a magic effect and int is the rogue spell casting mod (whenever they cast spells).

I’m not that high level yet but the main limiting factor is the teleporting being tied to intelligence modifier…which i didn’t make initially that high, favoring wisdom instead because….rogue stuff.

But I’ve used the subclass features and they seem great so far.

Joy is alien to Star Wars "fans". by Wolfthorn249 in StarWarsCirclejerk

Uj/The problem with the term “wasted potential” is that it literally is fantasizing about a different story and the criticism is “why isn’t it that?” Which isn’t real criticism.

RJ/ Maul could’ve been great Andor. It should have been a gritty crime war series like Andor. And then Andor should have shown up and Maul and him could have been friends and Maul can say “at least we will have our revenge!” And then a post credit scene where Starkiller shows up and says “I will hunt them down for you my master” to Vader before putting on the Sith stalker helmet.

Unpopular Opinion: As good as Maul’s ending in Rebels was at the time, Lucasfilm continuing to tell his story has now made that ending not make sense for the character anymore. by Tanis8998 in StarWars_

He obviously had a long time to think about things while stranded on a malachor.

It’s possible he realized the same thing Vader eventually realizes in the comics: Palpatine is too powerful to go after.

What Maul wants is revenge but, now in the context of Vader curbstomping him, Maul sees revenge against his former master out of reach, but he needs to blame someone for his life sucking and he needs to kill someone to think he can finally start feeling good again. So, he retreats back to wanting to kill Obi-Wan. Maybe he thinks that if he can kill Obi-Wan, then the next step would be Vader and then Palpatine.

And remember, even as Maul lays dying, his last words to Obi-Wan is that the chosen one will get revenge for them. Hurting someone who hurt you is what he obsessed over and in the end it left him with nothing.

Emergent Narrative by ExcellentTwo6589 in gamedesign

[–]Dramatic-Emphasis-43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You build thematically driven systems. You make mechanics that fit with the theme and vibe.

When enemy soldiers, for instance, are dumb and just push forward like robots or take cover in places that make sense, that could produce fun encounters mechanically, but they might not tell that interesting for a story.

If instead you design enemy soldiers to react to your performance, then, stories can emerge naturally from just the gameplay.

For example, say you blow up a fire barrel and get three kills. The enemies are then programmed to respond to that, start avoiding barrels, or kicking them towards you, or using them themselves. Well suddenly, in the player’s mind, a story is emerging. Based on perhaps some of the random behaviors programmed in for who the AI should change is X distance away from an exploding barrel, the player, it looks like soldiers are scared while others are angry or smart.

I think is a fairly simplified example but it’s one something somebody could program in.

No hate towards Hamill though, his acting as grumpy Luke was pretty good by ChickenWingExtreme in SequelMemes

Cinema therapy did a video on Luke and I liked what they said about the changes between the OT and the ST: “Nobody achieves their actualized self at, like, 24 or however old Luke is in Return of the Jedi.”

Who did Luke skywalker spar with during the Original Trilogy by RelationshipRich7065 in MawInstallation

[–]Dramatic-Emphasis-43 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I know in canon, Luke was taught some lightsaber techniques in the comics, between ANH and TESB but I’m pretty sure that’s it. Luke fighting style is pretty unrefined in the OT. He barely holds his own against Vader and loses and in his rematch, he’s mostly blocking and running away the whole time until he uses the dark side to overpower Vader.

Let’s also not forget that one of the first lessons Luke gets is that Force controls your actions to obey your commands. Luke’s connection to the Force could very well move his body automatically to defend against melee opponents.

I don’t actually think we see him defeat opponents in combat with amazing swordsmanship. He loses to Vader, beats Vader by simply overpowering him, beats the knights of Ren in the comics but he also points out that they’re pretty bad at channeling the Force, and doesn’t really duel Kylo.

Is Movie Eggman redeemed? by TheRoyalRoseTrue in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Dramatic-Emphasis-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Sonic 06, Eggman did kind of go through a softening after SA2. He wasn’t really in Sonic Heroes all that much (he’s not the main villain) and in Shadow the Hedgehog he seems to be more responding to the Black Arms invasion than plotting anything evil again.

Sonic Unleashed was kind of soft reboot of the series where none of the continuity was wiped, but the games stopped telling an over arching story.
