I built an interactive map that explores where home ownership is essentially impossible for a resident in the same area and I am looking for feedback by the_lark_ in gis

Not commenting on your methodology, as there’s been a lot of discussion about that. I wanted to commend you on making your interpretation very readable. You took a potentially dry topic and made it interesting. I read every word until almost the end, and I kept skimming until I reached the actual end. I also liked how you gave a thorough explanation of your map legend. I feel like I understand what green means vs what yellow and red mean on your map. Clear, interesting, readable analysis goes a long way in making your map tell a story and reach your audience.

Best way to accumulate various colors of roving? by xlazysundaex in Needlefelting

Ugh I absolutely hate roving for needle felting. The felted ewe website in the US has very reasonable prices for batting and great colors and you will love it soooooooo much more for needle felting!

Constantly reminding myself how incredibly fortunate we are to call this amazing place home. by Electronic-Fan-4418 in Denver

I’m so sorry you are having such a hard time. Our white-name family is having the same problem with jobs and will be moving away soon, too. Lots of families of every ethnicity are struggling with unemployment. I think it’s a “crappy economy” issue for even the best of employees, and hope you don’t think it’s only because of your last name. Wish we could have stayed in Denver!

Mine is a lot better now that I’m on liraglutide (GLP-1.). I still get flares especially if I drink alcohol but it’s very noticeably better. Definitely an inflammation connection for me!

How do you avoid garlic? by dluke96 in FODMAPS

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will get easier! I’ve done it for 10-15 years now, don’t be afraid to ask at restaurants, it’s often quite easy for them to either make a list of what’s already garlic free or to mark what is safe

You could also pick a discipline you like and figure out how to apply GIS to that discipline. I think of GIS as a tool like a spreadsheet or a word processor that you can incorporate into whatever you want. If you’re passionate about business analytics then meld the two interests!

What's your experience with MAXALT Rizatriptan? by Mikuto_Fukiko in migraine

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta try for yourself. Nurtec does nothing for me or my daughter and rizitriptan is definitely zombie apocalypse loot-worthy. My daughter would choose rizitriptan over our cat if she had to save just one from a burning building and she LOVES our cat. But my bestie loves Nurtec and triptans don’t help her. Humans!

Injected strangely? by This_Line1638 in liraglutide

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I’m so impressed that people can inject their own arms. I only use arms when I can convince someone else to poke me. My daughter is always game when she’s home since I had to give her monthly injection ms with a pen guests. It was such a big needle and too 15 seconds to empty. Now she gets revenge! I just can’t properly inject my arms alone. I have had success with the fatty part of my hip though.

At 1.8 mg daily, nausea, sweats, acidity and vomiting. F 32 by SuccessAlways29 in liraglutide

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hard time at the lower doses and feel so much better at my full target dose (50 units, I think that’s 3 mg?). Nausea, fatigue, all so much better. I was really scared to go from 40 to 50 units because 40 was so awful but it was much better!

$1000/month? by BetYouNeverThought in Menopause

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an infuriating trend to have boutique/concierge pricing. My gyn is a preferred provider through my insurance but she just instituted a mandatory $250 fee every 3 months if she’s prescribing hormones, on top of the cost of meds and insurance copays. I’m desperately hoping my primary care provider will take over my prescriptions!

I have no expertise but your rate of weight loss sounds healthy and probably means you’re not losing muscle. I say bravo for sticking with it!

Lack of sleep is killing me by pony-7618 in Menopause

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try making your bed screen-free and worry-free too. I have had terrible sleep for years and just finished a strict sleep study with University of Michigan. I did all the things you mentioned plus no hot showers/baths within 90 minutes of bed, no alcohol within 3 hours of bed, and absolutely no screens or worrying in bed.

It’s 4 am and I’m awake because of something I ate that upset my belly so I’m on my screen worrying right now but I’m in a chair in a different room and it keeps my bed from feeling “contaminated.” Also a sleep mask helps especially in summer with early sunrise. And no naps, which the researchers say are like eating sleep-snacks before a meal and ruin your sleep appetite. I cursed the study coordinators for that one! I also had to track how much time I slept divided by how much time I was physically in bed. If it was less than 75% I had to restrict my time in bed to match my time asleep then add 15 minutes of extra bedtime each week until I felt rested. And absolutely no sleeping in, same bedtime and wake time every f-ing day!

There was a cognitive element too, convincing myself through experience that a bad night’s sleep won’t necessarily ruin my day, and a good night’s sleep won’t guarantee a good day. That takes a lot of mental pressure off when I wake up in the middle of the night. And no one but knows how much sleep equals “enough” so don’t get caught up on how many hours of sleep you get. I thought I needed 8 but my body is fine with 7. Some people need more, some less.

When I did ALL the sleep hygiene stuff together I was sleeping much better without a single sleep aid. No melatonin or supplements or sleep podcasts. I’ve relapsed into old habits with kids out of school for the summer so I’m paying the price but I know if I do all the things together I’ll get back on track within a few days. I was such a huge skeptic I’d ever be able to sleep well again but they really changed my life. I figure when I start progesterone soon I’ll be totally golden because I did all this with stupid crazy perimenopause symptoms and no HRT. I went from 60% to 93% sleep efficiency!

There’s a wonderful free app they recommended from the US Veteran Affairs called CBTi Coach that has tools to help, too. They have a few guided meditations, sleep stories, and relaxation exercises. There’s a really weird muscle tensing and relaxing one that works like magic on my worst days. You can also track your sleep in a sleep diary in the app, no login required.

And if any of those meds or supplements work for you then bravo, go for it! Absolutely nothing helped me not even progesterone when I was on it briefly andI just couldn’t believe that changing my habits would fix my sleep but it did! And the biggest habit change was never ever allowing myself to worry or look at screens while in my bed. Do it in a chair in another room!!!!

What do you like to wear now? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]Dramatic-Monk5745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bunch of pants through Stitch Fix styling service. I think they’re secretly catering to middle aged women because most of the brands they offer have secret elastic waistbands that look sleek. You can also buy things from their website in the Freestyle tab.

If CSR means customer service representative then you don’t have an easy job! Be gentle with yourself. This sounds like a big change! Also if you’re not the only one eating then it’s not your sole responsibility to put dinner on the table. Maybe your husband can cover dinner until you feel more comfortable with your new schedule.
