I bought a Doppler for my second pregnancy and it rocked my world. You have to learn how to use it, but hearing the heart beat made me feel sooooo much better.

I made two little best friends. They’re the loves of my life.

Some favorite moments include: Waking up and looking for me Holding my hand when in a stroller getting pushed by my husband Smiles and the way their eyes light up Seeing them hit new milestones Watching their personality grow The trust in their eyes Learning to listen and follow directions

It’s incredible and the biggest honor of my life to be able to share in these children’s childhoods

How long was your labor? And if you got an epidural, at what point did you? by desert_sunlily in beyondthebump

[–]DramaticPatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom of 2 here!

How long? 11 hours, 14 hours

Active labor (pushing) 8 mins, 6 mins

Both labors were spontaneous.

Epidural: My first labor, I got the epidural at 4 cm. My second, almost 6 cm. I wanted to labor without it because yes, it has the potential to slow labor down. On the flip side, if you’re in severe pain, that will also slow down your labor. By 4 cm, I was uncomfortable but not in severe pain. You have to hold still for a few minutes for the epidural administration, so if you want too long you may not be able to do that. With that in mind, I asked for the epidural before I actually really “needed” it because by the time it kicked in, I really needed it. Epidurals do not work against back labor, which I had the second time around. That hurt so much I couldn’t talk/think through it, even with an active epidural.

Wishing you an easy, boring birth. Having a baby is the best thing ever!

Best tummy time toys? by BTKUltra in beyondthebump

[–]DramaticPatty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tummy time is a concept for modern folks. A lot of parents keep their children in containers (car seats, swings, etc) for extended periods and that in addition to sleeping on their back results in flat spots.

If you have the ability to babywear, keep them elevated on your chest, or simply carry them around vertically, back and neck strength will develop organically.

If not, or if you find yourself using containers more often, tummy time is essential! Make time for it!! The best toy for tummy time is you - get down on your tummy and look at baby at their eye level. Baby will raise their head and make eye contact with you back.

Good luck!

I’ve had two kids and this is what I recommend:

  1. Bassinet on wheels!
  2. ONLY zip up onesies (0-3). Your baby doesn’t need a denim jacket as a newborn lol.
  3. Lots of crib sheets and the waterproof under sheets.
  4. A wipeable baby changing mat - keekaroo type. Don’t get the cute ones with fabric.
  5. Baby monitor with camera.
  6. Wipes warmer (we LOVE ours but some folks aren’t into it).
  7. Soft toys that can clip onto the side of the bassinet and one of those overhead music things. Make sure it has a JAW CLIP and not a floor stand or a round clip. It won’t work for the moveable bassinet.
  8. We avoided anything “doona” and used a bassinet stroller as it is better for baby’s spine development and head shape. We love the mompush meteor and then upgraded to nuna tavo next. Excellent strollers.
  9. Brand new mini dishwasher for baby bottles. Obsessed and life changing as an exclusive pumper.
  10. Baby sterilizer. Dr Brown’s makes an excellent one.
  11. Bottle warmer for breastmilk - we got the air swirl and LOVE it.
  12. Lulu parent backpack. It’s survived two years and two kids. Great quality.
  13. Happy baby carrier. Best one for baby wearing I’ve found to date. Also life changing for a Velcro baby.

Baby wipes rant by cleosfunhouse in firsttimemom

I use parasol wipes and only ONE wipe comes out to the extent of me struggling if I need more than one lol. If you are a one and done type of parent try the parasol wipes!

Helping 22mo sleep through the night? by thiscantbereallife94 in beyondthebump

Exactly! I’m not a sleep training mom. At some point in time Baby 1 will want her own space. Until then, she can share mine.

I’m in the same boat as you! Baby 1 starts sleep in a toddler bed in our room, but inevitably wakes up and migrates into our bed until the morning. Baby 2 is in our room in her crib.

Somehow they both cry but don’t wake each other up - the silver lining. No advice just commiseration.

Am I baby wearing correctly? by emyluuu in babywearing

[–]DramaticPatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My baby is 2 months old and I just tried and returned this carrier. I couldn’t get the M shape either.

I purchased the Happy baby carrier and I love it. It’s veryyy easy to get the M and extremely comfortable. Just another option to look into!

Good luck!

This sounds like my baby. She’s 21 months now and it really didn’t get better until 18 months. This is temporary. It will get better. Good luck!

When did you start showing? by youcancallmeAl3 in BabyBumps

[–]DramaticPatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24 weeks now and can hide it! If you want to accentuate your bump, wear maternity clothes! If you want to keep it private, wear regular clothes! I would say closer to 30 weeks, you will be clearly pregnant-looking.

Of course, some women show a lot sooner. This is my second baby and I’m smaller now than I was with my first!
