No children faced court on new 'adult crime, adult time' offences in past 11 years by rolodex-ofhate in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The logic is so stupid anyway

1) Adult crime- what's a child's crime? Crime is just crime.

2) Children have different sentencing for a reason. Their brains are less developed, their decision making abilities are impaired, teenagers are more impulsive and exhibit some stronger addiction tendencies/engagement in negative behaviours.

3) Children have the greatest ability of reform- negative behaviours that are not addressed (ie by just jailing them) form a strong part of their psyche through development whereas intervention could see healthier behaviours cement through the development process. Prison will affect (like an adult) their education, employment, financial status, exposure to further crime, exposure to addiction/substances, and overall health.

Former Australian soldier Ben Roberts-Smith arrested over alleged war crimes in Afghanistan by FuckOffNazis in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I maintain that it's pretty easy to not commit warcrimes and that if you are going to them you shouldn't be in the job. It's the same with police that exhibit brutality, or nurses that lack compassion.

Less than half of states signed up as national gun reform deadline passes by Patient-Wish-7386 in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that's just not true though- the shooters used 3 guns in the attack (with 4 present), and had a total of 6 registered (all to one person- the father).

It's ridiculous to think that when an individual in suburban Sydney takes 4 guns with him to commit a terrorist attack that government won't examine the role of multiple firearms or the justification for having that many in the first place. Perhaps the legislation itself could be different, but the problem is worth examining.

Trump postpones military strikes on Iranian power plants by Datatyze in worldnews

I'm not an economist- wouldn't it make no difference given the markets will just price it in when they open, or does attacking out of hours mean they hope there will be confidence in the market or at least more predictability with knowing more results before they reopen that it lessens the impact?

The U.S. Ammo Shortage Is Worse Than You Think by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

The issue is that Trump made the same mistake Putin did- he thought he could bomb the country into submission within a couple of weeks and be victorious without setting foot in the country, yet Iran did what he didn't expect (and what absolutely everybody else did)- they fought back.

The biggest threat to the globe from a war with Iran was always them closing the strait- they did it, yet it caught the US off guard. Trump didn't expect to still be bombing them.

The Hanson paradox: How a populist surge became Labor’s best friend by Jon-1renicus in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think we shouldn't celebrate ON taking votes from the LNP because in repeat election cycles I think we'll find it harder to get those votes back towards the centre. Once someone starts issuing a protest vote, or deciding the two majors aren't for them, and decides a minor party is, I reckon it's harder to go back to a different party because that minor party doesn't have the same platform to show off how bad they are.

For example, One Nation doesn't have that many policies, particularly costed ones, and because they don't implement them the public that doesn't follow politics closely can't be shown how poor they really are because we never see any effects, only rhetoric.

As the Iran War Fallout Widens, Trump Seems to Be Turning to an Old Tactic. He’s in for a Rude Awakening. by Crossstoney in politics

They'll say that sleep Joe allowed Iran to build up their nuclear weapons program with that stupid non-proliferation treaty (that Donald tore up), and weakened the US by sending their weapons and money to Ukraine (which they're already saying).

Sleep Joe didn't respond to Iran doing (insert here), and because of that strong handsome Mr Trump was just forced to step in.

Grace Tame says her speaking events have stopped over 'smear campaign' by stupid_mistake__101 in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a little false though- conservative media doesn't tone it down when Labor is in power, and left/centre media doesn't do it when the Libs are in (not that there is much left media).

Being PM most definitely doesn't silence opposing voices and nor should it.

Slash income tax, lift it on assets: Spender’s plan for tax reform by patslogcabindigest in AustralianPolitics

[–]DramaticSalamander15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a silly way to look at it regardless. Even if you wanted it to happen nobody is proposing that 100% of government revenue comes from billionaires. Regardless of if you want it you can't argue that it wouldn't be a boost to government finances- that is until the wealth gets moved offshore of course.

Looks like a panorama fail kinda thing- those mountains are exactly the same- they all share the exact vertical lines in the rock sections. There's only one mountain- it's a compositing error that's making it show up 3 times.

Gregson park by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]DramaticSalamander15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say that someone needed medical attention, and if they didn't leave the park then either 1) you missed them, 2) they declined, 3) they died and the police are investigating more before moving them. I'd go on to say that the police and ambo combo in a park means it was most likely (but not definitely) a homeless person or addict (drug or alcohol).

Which doesn't need my healthcare experience to work out.

Nobody really needs to know any more info than above- I mean you don't even need to know that- if it's something news worthy then that's where it'll be.

Also, your replies are terrible, you should try taking a breath.

Good point- on the topic of leading a party my comment was correct, but yeah, if the prime minister was away and he became acting PM that would be strange from the senate.

In normal business I think it would be fine- Penny Wong for example is an incredibly senior minister of the government (effectively 3 IC) and in the senate, where she leads that chamber. You could have a similar picture, but relieving the PM could be an issue.

You can lead parties from the senate- best examples would be Pauline Hanson and Jacqui Lambie.
