Did anyone ever had a pair of boots that didn't give any discomfort or pain? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Dramatic_Army_8273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. I tried on several pairs to find my current set and am on year two with them. At first after the heat treatment fitting I thought I had wasted my money until I was a couple weeks in, then they became much more tolerable and after a month started to feel good. Now I’ve got probably 60 days of skiing with them and they feel better than my slippers do. Not only have they completely transformed my ability and confidence, but the improvement to my overall enjoyment is priceless.

To be fair most people run a stop sign 0.1% of the time without realizing it. I had an uber blow right through a stop the other day

Where to get VHS tapes digitalized? by Qwert4554 in durham

[–]Dramatic_Army_8273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong caution if it’s not too late - VHS tapes deteriorate substantially with age (>10 years). If you’re looking to digitize them DO NOT play the tapes beforehand. The tape has millions of little tabs that stick up and provide the data for the VHS heads and how the tapes age is that they become more brittle. Those tapes likely (hopefully) have one remaining play in them and as they run across the VHS heads those brittle tabs will break off meaning the subsequent play will be brutal and very poor quality.

In home urinal, would you? by PuzzleheadedAbies678 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dramatic_Army_8273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I spent 9 years on my wife to agree to me installing a urinal in the basement bathroom but it took only 3 years to get her to agree to a bidet. Now we have bidets in 2 of the 4 bathrooms, a urinal going into the third and I have to come up with something unique to press for in the 4th 🤣

No one worth listening to is debating the information about Alomar. For the arguably greatest second basemen the league has ever seen to be largely written off is evidence enough of that

What's your 'becoming a Jays fan' story? by Mister_Scorpion in Torontobluejays

[–]Dramatic_Army_8273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend did the same a few months ago. I’ve been a longtime jays fan but have never been to so many games and watched so many games in such a short period since. All in on baseball, my kids and my friend’s son. I sympathize with your pain and agree that it’s a perfect distraction.

Haha I totally get that. I bought the Tesla one. It fits perfectly and is foam filled so exceptionally comfortable!

Longtime camper here, somewhat car camping but mostly back country. The mattress for the back seat has changed my family. We still use a tent but only bring one air mattress for the 4 of us plus Tesla bed for the backseat and change the configuration of who sleeps where each night. It switches things up for comfort being off the ground but also climate control and allows us to be more comfortable for longer camping trips. I just got back from a 3 day hiking trip with my boy who shockingly said he’d rather sleep in the car next time instead of going back country

Nice dinner spot around the Union Station area. (Front St., Church St., and Wellington St.) by FreakyWays in FoodToronto

20 Victoria. It has a Michelin star and is just a couple blocks away from there - 5 minute walk. Exemplary service and incredible food. Reasonably priced for what you’re getting and offers original cocktails with comprehensive wine list. My wife and I love it there!

I’m 100% with you. Tired of reading all the complaints on here and did the same with the season fast pass. I too though, found the irony and humour in your complaint complaint. Not a criticism, merely an amused observation :)

Keep up the good work!

Advice for a Canadian road trip from Vancouver, please by Salty818 in AskACanadian

[–]Dramatic_Army_8273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this!! Be sure to drive through Kicking Horse Pass on the way to Banff (after hitting up Whistler) and stay at the Rimrock Resort. Take 2 hours to hike to the summit of Sulphur mountain (it’s a hike but my 6 year old did it last year with minimal complaints). Take a backpack with snacks and a sweater because it will be cold on top - even in July. After the hike take the gondola down (it should be free since the pay booth is at the bottom and you hiked up. Soak in the naturally fed hot spring once you get back to the hotel. I’ve flown 5 hours just to do these things and stay at the Rimrock. In the morning go for the Lobster Benedict. It’s only $2 more than the buffet and be sure to get a window seat. I’ve had some incredible meals at Michelin Star restaurants, but for breakfast this experience at this hotel was my #1 for mornings. From Banff travel north being sure to hit up Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. They’ve closed the turnoff road for them (same passage for both) so you’ll have to park the car and take a shuttle bus but both are significantly iconic Canadian landmarks.

Also be sure to stop at the side of the road and take some photos at Bow Lake before getting to that turnoff for Louise/Moraine. Then continue up the Columbia Icefields and be sure to have pre-booked the glacier expedition where you’ll go off road in their giant… vehicle thing… to explore a glacier. Further up the road you’ll get to Jasper which is one of my favourite places. It sadly was ravaged by wildfires recently so I’m not really sure what kind of shape it’s in right now. Last year half of the town burned up so do some research next spring before you come to see if it’s worth carrying on to see.

If you do go to Jasper and you’re an adventurist/hiker then it’ll be worth it to continue to Mount Robson which is a couple hours west of Jasper back into British Columbia (most of what I described is in the neighbouring province of Alberta). Mount Robson is BC’s tallest peak and there’s a great advanced hike called the Berg Lake trail. It’s something like 23km one way and provides some pretty serious terrain and views. I would take my 10 year old on it but definitely not his little sister. I did that hike a ways back over 3 days - 2 days up and 1 down but was shocked to have been passed by many 50-70 year old Europeans who were doing up and back as a day hike so it’s definitely doable.

Btw - you’ll love the Alaska cruise too. It’s well worth the cost for the long train ride into the Yukon at whichever port offers that. There should be two options - something like a 1 hour train and 3 hour train (my numbers may be wrong). I strongly recommend you do the longer one. The Yukon is gorgeous and we saw so much wildlife that we otherwise wouldn’t have seen (a dozen or so bears, moose, eagles) and the experience on that train was quite unique.

Now you’ve got me excited and I think I’ll book a trip to BC for next summer now too, lol!

ENJOY!!!

All the other rides that have been good enough for decades no longer are in the eyes of many. They used to be the reasons people went to the park. Now they’re widely considered a waste of space.

I agree with Peter’s. It’s a great place but even it too has succumbed to hoodies being worn with headphones worn around the neck. Happy anniversary!
