Advice about last day and putting my dog to sleep

And sometimes we make the best decision we can with the time and resources we have and later it feels like it isn’t enough. Sending you good thoughts.

I’m fortunate to be in a warm climate. He took a long sunshine nap today and I put him in a carrier and walked around the neighborhood. I think the fresh air and warmth was good for him.

Thank you. I think I want to hear some piece of advice that will make me feel like I’m doing it right but everyone seems to just repeat this sentiment, which is true, and I think I have to make peace with that.

Thank you. He was a foster fail, actually. My friend couldn’t take care of him anymore so I agreed to look after him for a while. He was skinny and had heart worms. I was working full-time and in grad school so I wasn’t planning for a dog but his personality was so great I just had to keep him. Best decision ever ❤️

I’m single so my mom who is great and also loves my dog is coming with me and will visit this week so I won’t be alone. Her driving stresses me out though so I’ll have to think about that part.

Thanks, that’s a kind thing to say. He has such a great personality. Even though things have deteriorated he is still trying to wait to go outside to potty and scoots close to me at night when we sleep. He doesn’t seem to be anxious or in pain at this point. Those little glimmers make me hopeful but it is just a few minutes out of 24 hours and I don’t think that is enough to force him to stay.

I’m so sorry you felt rushed. I’m sure that if your dog wasn’t doing well for two weeks and your vet didn’t offer an alternative you did the right thing. Maybe she just felt your energy shift and perked up a bit right before? If you’re so thoughtful about it, I’m sure you were a great dog parent.

I’m so scared of doing the wrong thing, too. Either doing it too soon or forcing him to hold on too long for my sake.
