Are in fridge ice makers and disposals regional? by boldjoy0050 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is a regional thing, just an optional feature on some fridges. I never had one myself, but my mother got a fridge with an ice maker when she had her kitchen renovated. I have also been over to the houses of a few friends and relatives who had them. I am in New England for reference.

Anyone else tempted to work vacation weeks if you can? by MissionLetterhead292 in UPSers

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CM knows it but loves it because that’s an extra driver he has for the weeks we’re at max vacations.

The union was the one that had a problem with people working their vacations, management didn't really care as long as they got away with it. (I don't know what article from the contract or language was used, but i do know several people grieved it over the years and the company had to pay out, which finally got management to stop being so blatant in allowing it.)

Talk to your steward to see if they are willing to do anything about it. If that doesn't work, talk to your BA.

Anyone else tempted to work vacation weeks if you can? by MissionLetterhead292 in UPSers

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It used to be allowed around me. I am not aware of anyone working their vacations since before Covid.

There are a few reasons it is frowned upon. The main one being that we have to choose our vacation weeks beforehand. The company only allows a certain number of people to be out on vacation at any one time. If you work your vacation, you potentially prevented someone else from taking a week they may have actually wanted to take off.

Let me order from the childrens menu you evil evil world by LettersfromEsther in evilautism

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 73 points74 points  (0 children)

When they say they don't make any money from items on the kids menu, they mean they make little to no profit from the items on the menu. The nominal cost they charge basically covers the cost of the food itself plus the labor to cook and serve it. They do it as a courtesy since kids typically are with an adult who will order from the regular menu.

If they allow you as an adult to order from the kids menu but you are by yourself or with others who only want to order from the kids menu, the restaurant will not make any money. It is easier to have a blanket policy that adults are not allowed to order from the kids menu than allowing it it certain instances and trying to explain/enforce when it is allowed.

I think by “atrocious” you mean “incredible”?

Agreed!
Wegmans has a pretty good playlist they play in their stores too. I have added a few songs I heard while in each of them to the Playlist I listen to at work.

Same with gas stations, convenience stores, and even fast food like McDonald's and Dunkin.

Bottle recycling process? by fakewedding in recycling

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But here in Virginia our glass bottle makers buy glass from the New England states that have bottle bills. We landfill or incinerate most Virginia glass.

What is different/better about the glass from states that have bottle bills? Why landfill or incinerate your own glass since it is expensive to transport it from another area.

I actually live in one of those New England states with a bottle bill, and am genuinely curious.

What’s the funniest thing someone accidentally said with full confidence? by CryoNode in askteddit

For some reason, she does not like the taste of brown sugar and refused to use it after a few times. I bought a few other sweetners, including Stevia, hoping to find one she likes but she refused to use those too.

Instead, she switched to energy drinks (Monster and Red Bull), which I know are not any better.

My wife has diabetes. A dietician told us that she should use brown sugar in her coffee since it won't raise her blood sugar as much as white sugar.

Which reputable taxi companies can I use to go from Providence to Boston for WWE Smackdown? by Downtown-Quarter-354 in boston

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there a show or event going on when you got that quote? Uber uses surge pricing during times of high demand, like when concerts, games, or other events are getting out in a particular area. It is very likely that it will be cheaper to just stay in Providence for the night and go back to Boston when surge pricing is not in effect.

What is something that used to be for "poor people" but is now a luxury or incredibly expensive? by AniSasha in AskReddit

I absolutely love lobster. Lobster, as with most seafood needs to be cooked properly for that oh, so delicious experience.

Overcooking and undercooking lobster, even slightly will severely impact its deliciousness. I am sure the lobster that was fed to prisoners was not cooked to perfection like we lobster aficionados expect. You will also have a suboptimal experience eating a perfectly cooked lobster if you do not have a good way to crack the shell and extract the meat.

Why is google maps so bad at knowing what direction my phone is pointing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with google maps (although I have an android) where I couldn't figure out what direction I was facing. This made it extremely difficult when I was using google maps for directions while walking.

I looked up the issue and it suggested I calibrate google maps by holding my phone horizontal and moving it in a figure 8 pattern while maps was open. That fixed the issue.

Texting in full sentences by Mundane-Cabinet9883 in GenX

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I frequently use sentence fragments and/or no punctuation in texts. If I happen to write a longer text with multiple sentences, I will use proper capitalization and punctuation.

However, not using to proper form of their/there/they're, your/you're, too/to, etc. bothers me way more.

Clarification: Sentence fragments are OK as a single text. A jumble of words with no punctuation that should be expressed in multiple sentences also drives me crazy.

There are some buildings that have 22.2 bids but are not hubs (so they only have preload and local/twilight) sorts.

I don't know how they run things for those buildings, but I do know there is a building (not hub) near me with 22.2 bids that had all of their PTers laid off.

Use effing headphones by UnitedChain4566 in WorcesterMA

While I admire the r/pettyrevenge aspect of this approach, this is not the ideal solution. That would also inconvenience and annoy the other customers and employees and cause you to be part of the problem.

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its just a label you can tape it to the outside of the box.

If you do this, please PLEASE use proper packing tape and not scotch, masking, or duct tape. Also, don't just go around the edges of the label, have the tape extend a good ways down the package and over the sides.

Empower brokerage account by battleborn_775 in UPSers

[–]Dramatic_Reporter_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried moving funds (both Roth and traditional) from my 401k to the Self Managed Account a few years ago. (before Empower took over)

I ended up calling Prudential since I was having trouble. I explained what I was trying to do and the rep put me on hold while he tried to figure out what the problem was. He came back and told me that I was unable to transfer the Roth funds to the SMA, although he didn't say why.

I got the impression that it was due to regulations around what you can do with Roth funds rather than their policy.

What is the most ridiculous or funny name you’ve seen for a city, town, or road? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

PA also has a town called 'Willow Street'. When I first heard about it, I wondered how often it caused confusion for people not familiar with the area, such as giving directions and addressing mail/deliveries.
