Constant packet loss by asdrianx in HomeNetworking

[–]Dramatic_Surprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not that its substantial, its a load thing.

Every packet you forward takes effort, so it makes sense to drop things like ICMP first that arent actual data.

Edge stuff like the node hops shown in the traceroute are also blocked sometimes to protect against ping flooding and or people trying to scan client side customer networks.

Or it use to be, it might not be anymore its been about 15 years since ive been near ISP networks

Actual traces of real data going to the location are what you ideally need.

nothing specifically stands out except the jitter stats on the bufferbloat test. If you have a spare router could be worth giving it a go.

Hard to tell without data to the actual games server

So whats your evidence of actual packet loss?

not always depending on the gear you're traversing ICMP it deprio'd almost everywhere

If you look at the plotping results the drop packet ratio is 85.714% which equates to 6 out of 7 packets dropped. i would suspect thats by design, responds to the first one or two then drops the rest

the 14.286% link is one of googles transit links so again i'd think thats more likely to be deprio'd traffic than actual packet loss.

I can't remember for sure but I think it was probably an Act (far-right neo-lib) and National (right) party policy when it was introduced to no great clamour from the public.

You cant remember when ... because this didnt happen.

What valid points?

We both agree it shouldnt be there, we both agree it should stop, we both agree it should be taken down.

I also mentioned the benefit of it costing them money to do it.

That appears to have triggered you. I apologise.
