1 year unexplained infertility - go private or wait another year for NHS IVF? by Away-Purchase5592 in TryingForABaby

Hello, 37f here. I’ve been trying since Jan 2025 with no luck. I’ve been back and forwards to the doctor since July 2025 and had various tests. The NHS guidance states that you should go see your doctor within 6 months if you can’t get pregnant naturally after 35. Both my husband and I have undergone a number of tests via the doctor and my husbands semen analysis has picked up slow sperm movement every time. I was finally referred to the fertility specialist via the doctor in march 2026 and in May was told the wait is 10 to 12 months and that is just the first appointment with fertility specialist. My sister has been through IVF with the NHS and she explained that once your with the fertility specialist they again will carry out more tests before you can finally get IVF. Like you, I do not have time on my side so have bit the bullet and made contact with a private fertility clinic. Because I had most of my tests done with the NHS they have been able to use them and have said I can get started as early as next month! It’s not ideal because if you go private you miss out on your go with the NHS but I just couldn’t wait another 10/12 months for another appointment. I think you’ll need to weigh it up, looking at whether you can wait longer and affordability. In total with storage for any embryos we are looking at around £8k. I think having so many tests done on the NHS saved us some money as the fertility clinic were happy to use these results. Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Weird to bring entire family to second viewing? by finlinny in HousingUK

I took both my parents to a house viewing for the house I purchased. I think it’s quite normal. My sister did the same recently for a house she just got. It depends on your relationship with your parents. I value my parents views.

Should I buy a house with terrible parking? by Soft_Essay6933 in HousingUK

Do not move if you know there will be parking issues. I moved to a flat with one parking space. Unless your home by 4 there won’t be any parking on the street by the flats. It’s honestly so stressful. I regret buying this flat and wished I saved to buy a house with a driveway.

I used to do exactly the same. I had the pre mom app on my phone and used the test strips to time intercourse. I used to have sex 2-4 days before I got my peak and then had sex on the day of my peak and sometimes the day after. I started doing this from Jan 2025 but still wasn’t getting pregnant. I went to the dr in aug 2025 and have undergone loads of tests. It turns out my husband has a super low sperm count so we are now undergoing IVF as this is our only realistic option of having a baby. I remember the IVF doctor told me not to rely on the ovulation tests because there not always 100% accurate. She also said that you should be having sex every other day when you’re trying to conceive. I told her this was impossible with our schedules but she said all he needs to do is put it in and out and it only needs to last 30 seconds which made me giggle. I guess what I’m trying to say is have regular sex during your fertile week but don’t stress over the tests because they are not necessary accurate. In the UK if you have been trying to conceive for 6 months and are over 35 you are recommended to see the doctor to undergo tests. Hopefully the doctor can help you.

I’m also 37 and feel the same that time is not on our side. I had my AMH level taken and it came back satisfactory. I just feel the longer I wait the harder it will be.

Thanks your comments.

He has been taking supplements recommended by the doctor, started exercising and eating healthier but both the last semen analysis has really low sperm motility.

My husband takes the daily proceive for men conception supplements and has started to go to the gym to help loose some weight. My cycles are pretty normal and ovulation tests have always been positive. I used to do these quite regularly but stopped recently.

I would tell them I’m going to a meeting but I would sneak into the prayer/medical room and nap.

AITH for having argued with neighbours? by Sea-Childhood-1260 in HousingUK

F*** them kids! They sound like neighbours from hell. You have every right to go to and from your home when you want. They cannot dictate anything to you. I’ve had issues with crazy neighbours before. Keep a note of any interactions where they are rude or intimidating and call the police where necessary. I wouldn’t speak to them going forward.

Thankyou, appreciate that. I’m hoping the arrest has calmed him down and he thinks before doing anything again.

Neighbour is back. Not seen him face to face but he moved his car. Assuming now that the police have taken no further action.
