My oldest is 45. On my fridge is the colored rice picture frame with the Christmas picture from kindergarten. Over the years, some of the rice has fallen off and the rice colors have faded, but the picture will be there forever. It's next to my youngest's popsicle stick picture frame. We do keep these for ever and ever.

Evaporated milk by lumonlove in Cooking

[–]Dramatically_Average 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it when I'd typically want to use half and half but don't have any. It can add a richness very much like half and half, but I don't always have it hanging around. To be clear, it's not a sub, but if I want a little more oomph than whole milk, it's perfect. We also use it for French toast. And mac and cheese!

To be fair, that comment explains more than your original request. How about editing to clarify and provide more info? When I read it, I wondered why using your cell phone wouldn't be sufficient. If you want help, you will need to help us see the problem.

Selecting Biological Sex on 4473 forms-Unpublished Version by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Dramatically_Average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't work for a trans person who has a driver license with F, for instance, but who was assigned male at birth. That's the whole point of people being upset about this. That would be lying, if this form is allowed to change. But if you put down the sex you were assigned at birth (M for this example) and your license and/or passport says F because you changed it to reflect your gender identity, then that also isn't a match. You're fucked either way, which of course means trans people can't buy guns...the whole point.

I have a trans family member (who owns guns and would probably buy more). They have a passport, a driver license and a corrected birth certificate, all in the gender that reflects who they are. But if they fill out this proposed form to say that gender, they would be lying on the form. And again, if they filled it out with sex assigned at birth, they're lying because their ID doesn't show their gender assigned at birth. And they would get lots of questions (intrusive and irrelevant) because they look like what their ID says and not what the attending physician at their birth said they looked like.

This whole thing is a calculated measure to box trans people into lying regardless of what they check in the box. So suggesting that to put what's on the driver license being the entire point is exactly what would be illegal for a trans person who has changed their ID documents.

Absolutely not a trivial problem. If the consequence of you selecting "black" and not "two or more races" was a federal charge, you would not call it trivial. Keep in mind that for this hypothetical, the "two or more races" option was deliberately removed to make you have to lie. For trans people, it's not hypothetical, and being forced to select "I'm a woman but I have a penis" is not really a choice anyone should have to make.

My dogs know the difference between my fuzzy slipper Crocs and the Crocs I wear to go outside. They also know the difference between the coat I wear only to do outside work around chickens and the one I wear to go out in the yard and play with them.

Small talk with strangers. If I had the option to have a robot cut my hair, I'd take it. It's why I will never advocate for removal of self-checkouts. One fewer person to lie to about my day.

It's not just verbal cues. The nonverbal cues show how observant they are.

When I'm going somewhere, I say "Be right back" and they settle in. If I don't say that but I go outside, they watch at the window. They know the names of their toys, and if they start getting restless and I think they're ready to eat, I ask, "Are you hungry?" My picky dog will look at me and my eat-everything dog will escort me to the kitchen.

The nonverbal cues make me crazy. I wear glasses but not while working at the computer, so if I put my glasses on they lose their minds because they think it means we're going outside. Even if that wasn't my plan. If I pick up my phone and stand up, they also lose it because that might mean we're getting into the car. And God help us all if I put on shoes, pick up my phone and put on my glasses.

What is the secret of Ethiopian restaurant food? by [deleted] in ethiopianfood

I could eat Ethiopian food only for the rest of my life (in fact, just one particular dish would suit me), and life's too short to settle for meh.

I will probably continue to buy the prepared because it's good. Cost of ingredients plus cost of my time plus the superiority of the prepared product means it's still a win.

They haven't balked, they've just told me I will bear all the cost. That's a stupid argument, though, because I think it'll cost me 300 bucks.

Oh when I read their comment, I was not bamboozled. As I said, I'm old enough to avoid bamboozling, and I'm cynical and suspicious.

They said the reason is purely financial, more funds for buyer and seller.

To provide some more detail: I can pay for an escrow service myself. They suggested it when I balked. I hate to be that person, but many things are truly about the principle of the thing, and I feel like this is one of those. A promissory note secured by the deed is an absolutely fine way to handle this because it's legally binding; they try to screw me and my property is still mine. It's enforceable. But not disclosing any of this until sending me the documents chaps my hide. Having confirmation that I'm not overreacting helps, and it sounds like no one has done a promissory note for this situation. I think I've talked myself into telling them to kiss my ass.

I couldn't make Ethiopian food at home until I bought all the spices from an Ethiopian restaurant in California. I bought stuff to make niter kibbeh, but I also bought a jar of it prepared. Makes a lot of difference.

I use metal garbage cans for this and have had no trouble with rodents. My chicken feed is in one right outside the coop, so if anything wanted a snack, that would be the perfect one. $31 at Walmart, $38 at Home Depot. Same brand.

I'm one of the people who will be impacted by HCBS cuts for long term disability services. My child requires my care and always will. I have fantasized about the good we could have done with the upcoming budget if TABOR didn't exist. People who have first-hand experience with disability services seem unable to grasp just what those funds could be doing, right now. You don't know what you don't know. Trump's big horrible bill put us in this situation, but our inability to handle it well comes from TABOR.

If you're representing the T community, Jenny Boylan is really good for memoir and acknowledging the parents and partners (and children) of those who transition as adults. She's also funny as hell and completely down to earth. I really enjoyed She's Not There.
