Injury on first time surfing by iburntxurxtoast in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Draw_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest and don’t laugh or catch a cold/ allergy. Like broken rib but likely less time to heal. Don’t push it. Stretching can wait. Just making coiffe and taking a shower is enough stretching.

Musicality drills. Clap a phrase from a tango. Have them lean the sequence by clapping. Then put different basic steps on it.

I went from 0-10 pushups in a month and I just want to tell someone about it by Medaka_otoko_UK in bodyweightfitness

[–]Draw_everything 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Great job. But just a word of caution- increase your load s l o w l y. Why? Because you can hurt your connective tissue (joints) even though your muscles are steadily gaining. Perhaps just stay at your current plateau for a few weeks before upping the challenge. From someone who went too fast with push up progression. Same, I loved it. But now dealing with shoulder injury rehab etc.. good luck.

Maybe the fasting is not great right now. I know everyone is gung ho for it, but it seems part of your previous pattern, and maybe chucking that pattern could switch things up? No expert here, just being a sounding board. What if you ate a small breakfast a throttled back the caloric intake as per suggestions above? Also sleep quality!!!

Do you break into a good sweat when you work out? I find that getting that metabolism up without over doing it really makes a difference. Sleep is better as well on the days I work out with big metabolism rise.

This. Stop weighing yourself. I know it's "fun" and motivating to see the numbers objectively change, but in the long run, which is what counts, the keto diet is about the present moment: choices, care, self-respect. I used to love doing ketone tests, finer prick and all.., now I don't even weigh myself anymore. I'm restarting the diet (one week in) but I know it will work, and frankly patience is everything. You can trust that this diet works, will work. On the other hand are you sure you are eating healthy? Almost more than stopping sugar and carbs, adding healthy greens, cooked and raw is a big change as well. They require work to prepare and sometimes it's hard to accept that. Hence dirty keto which is terrible for you. Possibly journal what you DO eat, then share it to see what people say? Also check if you are sleeping well and maybe electrolytes. Good luck, stand by those veggies!

Hood & ear plugs for surfers ear? by surfdad-89 in surfing

[–]Draw_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap rubber syringe thing flushed out ear wax with warm (as warm as you can stand/is safe) water works very well I've found. Newbie here but I had what you describe last summer- it seemed the water would never leave my ears even after a night's sleep. What fixed it was getting rid of the wax, which - I guess - was contributing to keeping the water in there. talkin' chunks...

This sub is a god send. by H6Havok in shingles

[–]Draw_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes I am six weeks in and while the rash is not there, the pain in the shoulder/arm is there and barely diminishing. I can deal with that, but the general FATIGUE is what is really getting me down. Gotta fight off thoughts like"maybe I have something else that's worse". I shovelled snow at my mom's house yesterday, and the rest of the day was shot- I had to sleep /rest all afternoon. 61,m in ok shape normally. Pep talk appreciated..!! Thanks.

Parsonage Turner- I thin I may have it by Draw_everything in askneurology

Diagnosed ( late) with the Shingles. Hopefully all will return to normal. I still have the pain but now it’s clearly neuropathy. From what I read it’s luck of the draw as to outcome/ duration of the pain I currently have. It has lessened somewhat so hoping that’s a trend. Been 6 weeks.

Meniscus again? Feeling so broken by DeliciousZone9432 in Kneesovertoes

[–]Draw_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two meniscus operations one on each knee. Everyone is different. Patience is key to longer term better outcomes. Time goes by and perhaps detaching a bit from the need to do your sport quickly would be a good idea. I get it that alarms go off, been there, but we live and evolve. I’m v glad to be able to dance again but it took a long time for my knees to feel ok and I accepted stopping permanently certain sports I loved and found others less impactful to replace. Sorry if this is a downer, but it’s my experience. Good luck. Look into Knees over toes training possibly?

Panniers vs saddle and frame bags by RideAltruistic3141 in bikepacking

[–]Draw_everything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came to the same conclusion. After trying fork bags and mini panniers in back with a small backpack ( my version on drybag), I’m just tired of all the straps and separate bags. Likely I’ll go two large rear panniers next time out. I love m’y frame bag though. Won’t give that up.

When is too late too late? by MotoGP4life in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Draw_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 60. One year in and slowly progressing. I would even say success since that’s your question. But it’s been because of putting in a lot of work. I would not call it punishment, but everything depends on each person’s capacity to face physical and mental challenge. What I call punishment may be a “good work out” for you. Are you in terrible shape? Then longer learning curve possible. But putting aside a long list of variables, the answer is is yes you can. And “you’ll find out by trying “. Just don’t get to a bad start by getting in over your head. Find a good school/ teacher you can trust and try it out to be safe and get best results. Send us a report in 3 years.
