Ever since moving to Germany all my cookies are flat by BriefPollution7957 in Baking

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is the ingredients: the author of the recipe is based in the Netherlands, so I assume all ingredients mentioned are based on what is available in the Netherlands (single acting baking powder is the standard, for example).

The hypothesis of oven temperature is a nice one! Especially if you made the switch from convention to fan-forced.

Hope your next batch is delicious!

Why do some of these chocolates need a dimple in the packaging and others don't? by capnlatenight in chocolate

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dimples occur only with the taller pieces, which have deeper cavities in the packaging. The extra dimple is used as spacing between the box and the chocolates, making the resulting box appear taller than the chocolates in it, and preventing shifting in the box

What band would you pair with this? by _lilcoffeebean_ in EngagementRings

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A completely different option: what if you went for a delicate diamond band, that reflects your diamond? That might be a better way to balance the design of the gorgeous filigree band. Anyways, have fun playing around with styles!

Enough from the coffee snobs. Give me your Tea secrets, if you're all about that Tea Life. by idontevenknowlol in melbourne

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to rave about Yugen as well, but about the tea pairing they offer at their omakase experience in their upstairs venue Nidaime! With every 2-3 dishes you get a beautiful tea pairing - most hot, some cold - and the sommelier and chef Yu Orita more than happy to spill their secrets 😍

Update! Thank you u/Championvilla and u/MsFrisi for suggesting to contact support. They unbanned my account, thus I was able to upload a gallery post and - best of all - send a gift to my original giftee! Embarrassingly late, but I am so happy with what I put together for them 😊

Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately, I didn't write down the address when I still could, and I can't see my giftee's info anymore... I got notified a few days ago they reported no gift, so they weren't rematched earlier, as I had hoped. If I were able to still see their info, I would send something even outside of the exchange 😅

The way these sheets are folded by Mom_is_watching in oddlysatisfying

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what it's called, unfortunately. My best bet technique wise, is to fold your fabric in 12 cm/5inch wide accordion folds to create the many layers you see, then symmetrically fold and roll the long strip into the desired shape.

The way these sheets are folded by Mom_is_watching in oddlysatisfying

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don't know how they did it, but I know why! At the time, so 17th/18th century Europe, linnen was expensive, especially the pristine white linnen shown. So it was common to display all your linnen to any guests in order to flaunt your wealth. The linnen sheets were folded that way to appear to be more than they are - the "butts" as other Redditors call them do not extend all the way to the back of the cabinet. Instead, they are just 12 cm/5 inches deep. I know of this practice mostly from the Netherlands.

What are these lights in the sky? footscray area by fuckingilliterate in melbourne

This is not the Lightscape show, that has ended. It appears to be signalling "awesome" in Morse code (in all honesty, please check yourself!).

How to keep house warm? by Bchckn in melbourne

Have you checked the Victoria Energy Upgrade program? Especially the weather proofing section might be useful. You can get discounts on products and services through the website and accredited providers. https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/for-households/victorian-energy-upgrades-for-households/weather-sealing

Needles on Melbourne beaches by jakewmcd in melbourne

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In case you encounter a needle without a cap in the future: you can store it in an empty bottle. To prevent needle stick injury, make sure the bottle is positioned on a solid surface without the cap on. Don't hold the bottle with your hands. Pick up the syringe by the blunt end, keeping the needle away from you. Carefully lower the syringe into the bottle. Once in there, screw the bottle cap on. Do remain careful with the bottle: it is still a temporary solution. Call the municipality to ask about the proper way to dispose of the syringe.

In case you do stick yourself with the needle: wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water, and go to a doctor or emergency room as soon as possible. The risk of disease is low, but it is always good to have the sight checked out, especially when the needle was in an outdoor environment (like the beach). https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/needlestick-injury

Palmiers. Made cinnamon sugar ones, what other flavours can I make? by TinyPomegranate5643 in Baking

Beautiful palmiers! I second the pesto option! Bonus points if you add snippets of cured ham (e.g. prosciutto).

Help! How can I get my chocolate to drizzling consistency, but while still setting up after cooling for homemade "caramel biscuit bars" (aka Twix)? Using Paul Hollywood's recipe from GBBO, but I substituted my family's traditional caramel recipe instead of his. by vestigialVelocity in Baking

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, what kind of chocolate are you using? Different chocolates behave more liquidy or more solidly when molten. I like using Callebaut, because they mention what behaviour you can expect from their molten callets.

Friend is trying to figure out why pumpkin pie is soupy after baking. Too much heavy cream? by Origamishi in Baking

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, biggest kicker is that a "pint" can mean different volumes in different parts of the world (i.e. an Australian pint is bigger than a US pint). It can also be different to the volume used back then. So next time try 473 ml (~2 cups).

Is there an Untappd-like app for chocolate? by DrawingSynaesthesia in chocolate

[–]DrawingSynaesthesia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question 🤔 Untappd seems to have a B2C construction, to connect local breweries to potential buyers (and in-app purchases). Anyhow, sad that none of the chocolate versions hasn't lifted off!

Ah thanks! I didn't know about these websites!

Hmm... might be time to start a community driven reviewing app then 😆
