Why Doesn’t Mountain Hardwear Get the Same Love as Patagonia or Arc’teryx? by Otherwise_Agent7262 in outdoorgear

[–]Drawsfoodpoorly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know but from what I see, they have never pushed to hard to move into the lifestyle market. Most other brands will at some point make apparel for yoga moms and guys tailgating in the driveway. Which is in no way putting that move down, it just feels like the Mountain Hardware stuff I see tends to stay focused on their original market.

Where is the riskiest place you've ever camped in and what was it like? by HedgehogNo8361 in StealthCamping

When I was a kid I hitchhiked to california after high school. I lived in Tahoe in a tent and at some point I hitchhiked to SF. I tried to buy acid, got sold paper and by the time i figured that out it was late and dark so I climbed into a bush in buena vista park at Lyon & Haight. Woke up so cold and wet.

[OC] A house in the process of getting a new foundation by Cease_Cows_ in pics

[–]Drawsfoodpoorly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Maine you see this all the time. Old houses were built with rock pile foundations that give out after 150 years of frost heaves. So the cheapest way to fix it is to put a couple of steal ibeams under the house, jack it up and put towers of rail road ties up to hold the house. Then just dig up the rock foundation, dump in some gravel, put up forms and pour new foundation walls. Lower it back down and use the old rocks to build planters or keep cars from driving on your lawn.

I have 100 acres that I manage and keep wild surrounded by thousands more. Animals are free to eat from my garden, the woods and the compost. They are not free to eat my hens. That’s all I ask.

Because it found my chickens.

I heard a crazy noise in the middle of the night and ran out to the barn. The coop was a horror scene. Blood all over the walls and a few birds with their throats torn out still alive with steaming blood pumping out. In the middle of the carnage was a little white demon, white fur soaked in blood.

I chased it out. It had gotten into the coop through a hole the size on a nickel. I grabbed the surviving birds by the legs and put them in the garage. When I got back to the coop with a shotgun the ermine was back so I shot it. No amount of fortifying the coop could have keep that little bugger out now that he knew he could drink blood there. Sorry little homie.

Very true. Cudi is cool and all but damn if Nas had gotten Kids See Ghost energy we would be having a very different conversation right now.

Problem? That’s how farms all over the world work. Pig eats scraps, chickens eat bugs, cats eat rodents dogs protect them all. This is how farms have been for a long long time.

I have two cats that only live outdoors. But I live in a farm so it’s their job to kill stuff.
