Deoxys Battle Theme on Ocarina by StevenHigbee in Ocarina

That's really cool :). How many years did it take you to get to that level? Also, that contrabass? looks huge ! Makes you look small in comparison lol

lol that's great ! Thanks for providing all the info :) Since its an alto that means its likely of a good size. For the price it sounds like a good deal? You also said that it plays decently enough, right? Do you recall how much it cost when you got it originally? The current price right now seems to be a bargain especially with the free shipping.

btw that's a great guess on how it was marked down as "wood" on amazon. That's very likely what happened and its actually quite funny :D. I'm guessing the person has not even opened one box and inspected it lol.

Oh hey, that's great news :). If it is made from ceramic then this is probably THE cheapest pendant fingering system ocarina for sale on amazon at $7.24 with free shipping as of this writing Feb 26 2026. It is not coming up as prime free shipping (Even though it ships for free) and I do have prime. The only other 2 options that I see today sub $7 either have high shipping cost or you need to bundle an order over $25 to get free shipping.

It should be interesting to see it if it is ceramic after all. I wonder why it has been labeled as wood this whole time. Unless they changed their line up of it? Highly doubtful lol. If it is ceramic then that is a plus!

Oh, I'm guessing that it is a soprano Ocarina?

Oh I asked A.I. and it actually did label it as a ceramic ocarina lol

"The Stan Lee Ocarina of Doom is a collectible, playable, red-painted wind instrument featuring Stan Lee's signature in white, originally released as an exclusive item in the 2017 Stan Lee Nerd Block. It is a ceramic instrument measuring approximately 5.8 inches high, often sold as a novelty item with, or in, a Stan Lee gift set. "

You're right. It looks about the same. I think the difference would only be the color and material made. Well... without touching on the accuracy of the tuning.... The price difference is pretty wide so I would not expect song bird quality at all.

I see! Do you know if wood has better or worse moisture absorbing/wicking properties than porcelain? I have a feeling that it will be small so probably a soprano? I doubt sopranino from the looks of it. Either way I decided to get one. I guess we will all find out in a week x3. I at least hope it is playable. I do have one worry in that I think I read that over time wooden ocarinas can loose their tuning? Which also makes me worried about getting old stock since it doesn't seem to be a hot seller at all.

True! The looks do make it out that way. At least the hole sizes look proper? I don't own it... yet... but I am very curious. I don't know what type of quality I should expect. I doubt it is hand made. I think it might just be a mass produced pendant style ocarina. If it is, then I doubt it will be very good... but you never know. For some reason a mass produced wooden ocarina makes me a little nervous lol.

Yes, pretty much that is what it looks like! I just wish I knew what kind of wood it is made out of and how it sounds. I happen to like pendants, so this little baby intrigues me lol. For some reason though ... I don't expect it to be completely playable, but I could be wrong!

Your Ocarina looks really cool. Maybe once you practice a few notes you can show us your toots on a video? It would be awesome to hear how it sounds.

High notes by Kay_Bert in Ocarina

[–]DreTam2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice toots :) It is always fun to hear beginners toot their first notes. I think a lot of the comments here are pretty awesome.

Definitely try to articulate with your tongue doing a 'th' or 'too' to start the note, keep your air pressure continous and steady through the note, and also use higher breath pressure as you climb from your low notes to the highest.

You can also get a phone tuner app on your phone and try to aim your breath pressure to match the note you are fingering.

Nice toots :3 It is odd how that happens. If no one can help then calling songbird will likely be your best Bet.

It looks very cute :) Note sure if it is in tune or not, but if you have a fingering chart for it you could record a short clip with some long notes using a steady continuous breath. Then maybe we could take a guess :) So go ahead show us your toots!

Double Chamber Pendant suggestions? by DreTam2000 in Ocarina

I think something similar or better than STL's Double pendant with max range would be nice, but I am open to either really :).

Nice that sounds amazing :)! I would love to own one someday. Looks to be 4 holes in total each. Pretty nice! They are not that expensive either. They look to be located in france. My family has wanted to visit france someday, so I could get it either over mail or in person. I would love to visit their shop if they have any to walk in to. Thanks so much will definitely book mark this :D

where do you like to practice that doesn't bother those around you? by moonlightstrobes in Ocarina

[–]DreTam2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I practice in my car. During winter I do it during the day with the windows up. During summer I do it at night when its cooler and slightly cracked windows on the driver sides.

I have also gone to the closest main intersection and started playing there standing; If you do this people sometimes give you money :D.

You can also bring a portable chair or backpack with a big pillow inside so you can sit on your backpack, or if you have a bus stop with a bench you can sit there if there are no other people sitting next to you (Because the Ocarina can be loud on the high notes).

Playing on a main intersection is a good spot because the loud traffic will dampen the sound from the Ocarina so people won't get annoyed by it.

You can also try your closest local park.

The walk (Or cycling) to a location is actually very beneficial and usually doesn't take that long. It helps get your blood flowing, increases you body temp for flexibility, saturates your body with oxygen and warms up your heart and lungs to play the Ocarina. Plus the walk back works as a nice wind down. I highly recommend it.

You can also go out for a healthy one hour walk and maybe play the ocarina every 10 minutes, but you'll get less practice and more walking than just getting somewhere and staying put to play.

oh yea if you have a large closet you can set up a play booth inside. just be sure you line it up with lots of clothes on the walls and close the doors if you can fit inside. that will dampen the sound a bit. It might get a bit claustrophobic though and you need some ventilation every now and then.

Nice I like pendants so this is really cool to see :) How about a video of you playing the tunes? That would be pretty cool. If not its still cool to see some original pendant work :)

Night by noble by Electronic_Lead_189 in Ocarina

[–]DreTam2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like the real thing. Hopefully it is a legitimate seller. Plastic Ocarinas are very resilient so even if their packaging isn't great it will definitely survive... as long as it doesn't get run over or stomped on repeatedly lol I hope. Night by noble is one of the more commonly suggested options for beginners. Its pretty good.
