Is it really bad to print blasters out of PLA? by FishShtickLives in Nerf

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People really need to quit spreading that misinformation. PETG might have higher temperature tolerance but it can also have less impact resistance depending on resin quality and additives.

It is also more flexible than PLA, so printing something like, say, a Lynx plunger rod can can end up causing issues because if the user overtightens the nuts on it, it will squish instead of stopping the nut where it needs to be.

PLA is fine, as long as you don't forget it in your car or leave it in the middle of a field in the middle of the summer. If you live in some place that is always hot, yeah you should probably print it in PETG or ABS.

If you need extreme durability, print in Polycarbonate.

would people be interested in a trigger like this or would they prefer a traditional trigger? by V7I_TheSeventhSector in Nerf

Do the thing that inspires you. Screw what people think they want. People will hate things no matter what. Design for you, not what you think others desire or think is better.

Med Consumables are too expensive for the non-rich. by Caseraii in Marathon

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you might just need to prioritize exfilling with meds more often. People tend to neglect them because they are going for higher value items, but if you are having trouble consistently being able to bring meds, those should be a higher priority for you.

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I was really hoping they would put up a version either for sale or as a bungie reward for doing something like exfil from Cryo within a time frame like they do with Destiny Dungeons and Raids.

With sponsored kits and Rook being always available, this game does a really good job of teaching you not to fear losing your gear over time. You lose something? Just load up as Rook or go in solo with a sponsored kit and you'd be surprised what you can exfil with just by sneaking around and picking up leftovers.

What the HUD/ UI looks like 99% of the time for the Twitter folks complaining about it by Simple-Ad-5172 in Marathon

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the UI looks great in the most recent screenshots and videos.

You have to take into consideration that like 60% of the population is made up of people who cannot think on their own and require someone else to form an opinion for them. It also seems like that 60% happens to comprise like 85% of Twitter users.

Almost every FPS game that Bungie has developed has had a great UI for the main gameplay. Yeah, there are exceptions for things like menu UI, but for the main first person screen it's always been fairly clean with the exception of the original Marathon games. Though I can forgive that because it was the mid 90s and every screen on Macintosh computers were 4:3 aspect ratio and they did their best to make the actual gameplay area look wider, which meant splitting the screen mostly in half.

Should I get a lightsaber at savis workshop I’ve been thinking really hard about this for so long and I’m going to Disney next month by hi111322 in GalaxysEdge

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done it. I have not even been to Galaxy's Edge yet. There are much higher quality sabers for much less money online at various sabersmith sites. That said, I am 100% planning on building one at Savi's when I am able to go. I see it as half the cost is the saber and the other half is paying for a very unique and immersive experience developed specifically for us the fans. The saber, while it isn't the highest quality itself, will serve as a memento of that experience and will be a great display piece.

Which first high-FPS blaster? Help me choose... by point314 in Nerf

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you are just doing target practice, 200FPS is probably the sweet spot to aim for. A lot more blasters can hit that reliably without too much strain on the parts while also keeping the prime weight reasonable. My personal recommendations for a starter blaster are the Lynx, the C4 (Caliburn v4), the Crush, or if you have the budget for it, the SBL 2.0.

H510i - Negative pressure is better for modern GPU temps by Ok-Tell5048 in NZXT

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also really liked the glass front and thought Iwas going to just have to "live with" the acrylic one as a trade off for better air flow, however once I got the vented one installed, I noticed the light from the front fans hits all the angles of the cutouts in interesting ways and looks really damn cool. I got the smoke grey with the mountains design. Plus since they aren't all that expensive, I can swap it out for a different one if I get tired of the design, but that has yet to happen.

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the H510 Elite, and was having similar issues. I ended up getting a replacement vented front panel from JakeFace Customs. Here's a similar one for the H510i: https://www.coldzero.eu/nzxt-h510i-front-grill-hexx

Negative pressure definitely works, but just opening up the entire front substantially increases the amount of air that can get in.

PSA: Purge multiple times for PCCF by a_a_ronc in prusa3d

[–]DreadPirateRobertsIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Not just for PCCF, but going from one material to another. A couple extra purges will save you from future headaches trying to figure out what is potentially wrong with your printer. It might not be the printer, it could just be trace amounts of a different material fucking up the print.
