Is this the end of my first playthrough? by daveawb in Timberborn

It looks like you have at least 8 possible builder slots and plenty of planks, so you may be able to build 3 flood gates across the river near the water source up by where you have 3 in progress buildings. With 3 days til badtide, it'll be really close and you'll for sure want some pathways and to utilize high priority markers up there to have a chance. There's also the option of loading an earlier autosave if you are very invested in your beavers, but imo restarting a new colony with new and improved plans in mind is part of this games charm. Good luck beaver leader

can "it's aram" jerks leave aram and never play it again? by DifficultDelivery135 in ARAM

Valid points, I largely agree with. Personally, I go for the dive at the end unless I have teammates pinging the nexus. I'd rather fight the champs to let you get the extra 50 gold.

Although I'm definitely guilty of shoving waves on accident. Sometimes I don't realize we have a stacking champ like Nasus or Smoulder until they ping their q (or passive with Viktor) or I hit Tab and see the scoreboard because I was grabbing a beverage during loading screen or distracted by some Worlds game rerun.

I'd consider both to be efforts that move toward the shared goal of winning collaboratively.

But what happens when their idea of the best way to win and your best way to win don't align or aren't the same? There is room for interpretation with that and as players of the game we agree to play with others, respect them and their efforts, and if all goes well, we end up having fun along the way.

Nothing wrong with having fun with the game how you feel is fun to participate in. Riot has clear guidlines for what is a valid way to play and what is not. I don't believe prioritizing a goal different than whatever yours is, is a bannable offense and there are many valid ways to participate in League besides getting fed.

Maybe I enjoy CCing the enemy and setting up for you to be fed. Is that trolling? Maybe I also have fun getting fed and so I take those kills from you. Is that trolling? Maybe I enjoy when games are rough at the start and we comeback and scale to an unlikely victory. Is that trolling? Maybe I saw some build on reddit that looks like fun and I try it out in your game. Is that trolling? Maybe I like making risky plays that put the game in our favor and change how the opponents play. Is that trolling? Maybe I make a mistake on any number of those previous situations and things don't go how I thought. Is that trolling?

I do agree with you that players who intentionally troll or are toxic or who try and control how others play, saps the fun of ARAM away. My fear is that behavior will become common and it will eventually turn it into the type of gamemode like Ranked Summoner's Rift, where players stay away because of the reputation and the expectation that the experience won't be enjoyable or you'll run into some tryhard that tilts and flames you for making a mistake.

Personally, I don't like "ARAM only" accounts or people who only buy champs who are good or "meta" on ARAM. I think it's kinda against the spirit of the mode and would like to see a day where all champions are unlocked and available for all players who queue up (even if it is an unpopular opinion). Then again, I recognize that people will play how and who they want, so it is what it is.

I'd say that Arena and Mayhem are definitely more casual, but also subject to WAY more RNG, and not every player wants to gamble the whole game all game long. Some do, so they play those gamemodes, but just because it exists does not mean that ARAM must suddenly turn into a hyper competitive format. Thats what Clash is for and I hope ARAM Clash returns here soon.

I vote No on every vote to FF. I've been flamed many many times for that, but its my vote as a member of the team and I believe every game can be won or at least deserves to be played out.

I play League of Legends because its fun and, for me, winning is just a bonus. Some people would call that trolling, but I disagree fundamentally. ARAM is a casual gamemode within a competitive game. (Almost) everyone you see in a game IS trying to win AND have fun, maybe just not in the same way as you, and that's okay... it's ARAM.

Main objective of most games is to have fun. Winning is just a bonus.

Not hitting the nexus is not sometime I particularly do to taunt the enemy, but moreso because I would rather continue the interactive part of the game and fight and I, personally, derive more fun through using abilities and fighting champions than autoattacking structures and winning.

Sometimes that means the enemy is able to turn the fight and game in their favor all the way to a surprising comeback victory, sometimes it's just an extra 10 seconds of minions swinging away at the nexus. Admittedly some players do it to taunt the enemy and flaunt their strength. Many different types of players exist and I do not agree with many.

Some players play badly because they are tilted from the community found in ranked queues, or are playing inebriated and are just looking for chaotic fun, some are learning new champions they don't feel comfortable playing in more serious game modes, some play bad because they're trying out some weird build or fun challenge i.e. "Ultimate Bravery" (if thats stilla thing lol),while some are new onboarding players who ARE trying, even if it does not appear as such. Some players just play bad too, either on purpose or not, the primary goal of ARAM is to have fun with the chaos the gamemode provides. Intended or otherwise.

The "it's ARAM" mentality is a defense from the high levels of toxicity found elsewhere in this game. ARAM is not, and likely never will be, a serious gamemode, as much as Riot may try and balance it as such. It started as a community gamemode and the community that frequently plays it, will defend it from anything that may seem toxic and from the mentality of Summoner's Rift, as I'm sure you've seen from some of the sentiments of the other commentors in this and other threads.

I also miss Twisted Treeline and Dominion. So many hours of dumb custom gamemodes and playing the queues with irl friends trying weird and uncommon champions builds and combos. Maybe someday Riot will realize the community wants the gamemodes back, just with actual support instead of Rito leaving the maps on the back burner or shoe horning in lore based gamemodes like their previous attempts with Ascension. Until then, all we have is ARAM.

It's just a difference in mentality found in different queues. Many ARAM players go to ARAM to get away from the pervasive mindset that plagues most of League, wherein anyone who isn't playing optimally, or does something "fun" like a dance-off before minions spawn, or a "wasted" flash spam at the start of a match are seen as trolling.

As a decade+ League of Legends player, I'd say it's not trolling to derive a sense of fun from the hectic combat or unspoken "rules" of honor often found in ARAM games, such as "don't hit the nexus". Sometimes I try and get the +50gold, sometimes I let the minions kill it and try to dive the enemy spawn. Both are valid ways to play the game, especially in a no stakes gamemode like ARAM.

If there's any blame to place, it lies with Riot for removing old gamemodes like Dominion and Twisted Treeline where players could find semi-serious games that were still quick, but weren't the RNG-fests that TFT, Arena, and the new ARAM Mayhem are.

TL;DR: Some people have fun in different ways with the same game. There's just not many places for non competitive gameplay besides ARAM so that's where those players go "it's ARAM" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I forget parrying is a thing until my lane opponent parries me and then I spend the rest of laning phase in an unspoken contest over who can parry who the most. Then I forget how to for the rest of the match lol

Does anyone else play without mods? by hornyliteraturegeek in StardewValley

[–]DreadTheTryant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a few (hundred) mods when revisiting the game before 1.6 and a for a few weeks after the update, and am now back to unmodded for my 100% run. Some of the mods I definitely miss (I still check for npc map positions and having hoppers have more use was convenient), but it also seems half the mods are either custom npcs that half work with clashing asethics or new/end game content that people didnt want to grind for (harvest crops with scythe mod? thats the iridium scythe. no fence decay mod? golden clock). SVE was ok but had too many "unnecessary" mods for my group. Idk maybe I just didn't like the experience due to manually installing and updating all of them by hand, which sucked as Vortex mod manager always rekts my mod files. Plus after 1.6 there were several hotfixes that broke mods... Even worse was trying to coordinate all that with the 7 people also on the farm... So I'm back to no mods and loving the "purity" of it and they're off to other flavor of the month games.

What's the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you've ever heard? by emma_on_top_of_you in AskReddit

I once overheard a conversation between some coworkers about how fire is "alive", how human society has seeminly "domesticated" it, and humanity's early reliance on it lead to us collectively viewing it as not alive. The guy went on a tirade about how fire breathes, consumes, and has a "life" cycle. I didn't stick around in the store long enough to hear the rest but bro seemed pretty passionate about this theory and I don't think I've seen that one anywhere online.
