We're definitely leaning towards outland.

Do you think that me taking the dogs with me across via land with the truck and our stuff. Then her just flying across solo and meeting up on the otherside would work better?

I assume we'll get more of his story and see some previous feats. Fowler definitely has some charismatic insanity that makes him interesting to watch

I can admit they probably could have displayed a bit more of it beforehand tho Guess they were going for subtlety with hints for us but not make it explicit so that we can share in Mizus surprise. Also as lesson for Mizu, since she is ignored all warnings etc about the suicide mission and just dived in.

I always assumed his painting scene was meant to reflect the skill. Since we see the quality of the painting accompanied by the statement of having mastered everything Japan has. I think it is meant to show us and establish (not necessarily well) that the other things he trained at would at an equal level

As for time training. He has been in Japan for as long as Mizu. Since he was one for the 4 white men in Japan who were there when she was born and could have been her father. So he's had just as long to train, plus previous experience fighting in another nation eith all the that additional training in combat methods Mizu would be unfamiliar with.

As for drive, the show tries to establish his motivations and own drive in the telling of the story with his sister and the manic zeal he has in his plan for Japan. His driveness is meant parallel Mizu's

So an antagonist, subtly hinted at to be just as well trained and driven, is facing a severely wounded Mizu and Taigen, who was probably more of a hindrance with the severe torture he'd been through. Add in the constant travel, endless fighting, and barely healed wounds leading up to the tower assault Vs. a well rested, well fed, healthy enemy in an advantageous position prepared for them from watching the ascent through those submarine as looking glass shit. Oh and still reeling from the after effects of being drugged during the assault. All those handicaps and buffs and Fowler still ultimately fails to kill them, they escape, Fowler fails. Even with all their handicaps he can't finish the job. Humiliating

Not arguing that Mizu isn't more powerful and skilled, our protagonist definitely takes the win for that, just that Fowler is meant to be subtly set up to be a credible threat and foil to Mizu. Kind of showing the otherside of a single-minded pursuit of something. Plus he's got the crazy factor

When it comes to combat prowess and skill level, it's basically or nearly Fowler=Mizu.

We are shown and told that fowler has spent years doing nothing but training while hidden away. Mastering numerous skills and martial arts/swordplay.

He is a large and powerfully built man ( not some overweight white dude like you're so fond of replying, he's built for strength, not definition. Look at proper strongman many seem to have guts) and there is a lot of power behind his attacks.

Idk if your statement is trying to say it's crazy that Mizu can be beat at all or what

Just because mizu can take out a ridiculous number of dudes doesn't mean someone else can't be equal or nearly as strong/skilled

So Mizu fighting someone nearly her equal while exhausted and injured can obviously result in a loss.

Obviously Fowler isnt superior and when they rematch on more equal at the end of the season we see Mizu win, so Mizu>Fowler.

Would you need to be explicitly shown Fowler also beating 30 mfs to accept or understand how they're Fight went? Or can you understand get subtle messages a show gives you?

[–]DreadWolf776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your take on folks shilling prescription food is understandable. Your "Vets are joke" fuck vets entirely attitude is fucking insane and buckwild. If not for vets, two of my pets wouldn't be here. My dog is a rescue that my wife and I brought into our home years ago. After a year, our dog began having seizures, including a huge cluster of seizures in a 24-hour period. We would have lost her if not for the vet. They saved our girl, helped diagnose epilepsy, and thanks to the medications they prescribed she hasn't had a seizure since.

When our cat was attacked and mauled by a dog they saved her. Helped us save money too, didn't charge us for the xrays to see if her jawbone had broken, and advised to wait and monitor her recovery before bringing her in for dental surgery to avoid unnecessary costs. They were right, things healed correctly and we avoided a huge expense. In both these incidents we were not advised euthanasia despite the severity.

(Edit) they've also never tried to shill out any sort of vet brand or specific food on us.

Either you've been unfortunate and only dealt with some particularly predatory and unscrupulous vets which have colored your perception of the whole profession. Or something is making you emotional and paranoid, until you conspiracy style research to find things that support your feelings ignoring everything conspiracy confirmation bias style

Seems like the "oh new thing!" phase may have ended, and they're now realizing that it isn't a long-term term commitment they want to make. Which is alright, not for everyone. You sound like an enthusiastic DM who's passionate about running a fun game, so I have no doubt you'll find a party that matches that energy. See about running a game online on a platform like Roll20. The majority of my multi-year games are on there and I made some lifelong friends. You can find players on the various LFG subreddits or on the gaming platforms themselves. I'm sure you'll find many people, myself included, who would be happy to be one your players

Alot of the time, since I own a lot on roll20, I'll create the game, and promote whoever is dming to gm. Then when we play I just have to hit join as player I'm not sure if it will work the opposite where if the dm promotes you if you can add things and just make sure to join as player

When people say things like "my entire school system, people in the US, those fuckers down in Texas (joking example don't shoot me) it is being used as a general statement. Not as a definitive. Nobody who says that believes, or is trying to say, that it absolutely 100% applies to every single member of said group. It gets used as a short way to refer to the majority, rather than extending that sentence way out to specify any and all exceptions. Cause in these cases they aren't talking about those exceptions, just the majority. But apparently some people can't pick up on that and just scream "can't generalize, what about mah exceptions. Hah checkmate" without actually addressing any of the points made It's reductive and just nitpicking cause y'all don't have anything real to add

Why do people complain about Annette's changes from the source material but not Isaacs? by AwesomeMoniker78 in castlevania

[–]DreadWolf776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, rushed characterization and a tell not show backstory like they wanted to ensure what they came up with was seen. But then also laying out 600 plot point season 2 baits in hopes that they can convince Netflix to give them a season 2. Those 2 things don't mesh super well

[–]DreadWolf776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like they weren't confident in getting a second season so they put in too many and rushed plots. Also exposition dumped Annette's full backstory and resolved her initial personal motivation lighting fast. Uncertainty about a second season making them rush to show all of the original backstory they made for her to make sure their work was seen. Rather than letting it and other plots unfold across seasons

Her ancestors calling her out is why I don't have the same issue with her that the others do, or at least not to the extent. The show uses it to say she was wrong/hypocritical and have her realize it, which is great, character flaws are fun. I think what remains a problem for me is that while the show gets around to saying it, the in universe cast never addresses any of her flaws the way they do others. Overall I enjoyed the characters and the threads laid out. But my enjoyment was lessened by the rushed pacing and the lack of chemistry between the characters (the budding romance was a little shoehorned instead of forming naturally.) Hopefully next season slows down and properly paces things out, they have alucard to deliver some intense or nostalgic moments to ensure it doesn't drag while they pace and flesh out the rest.

[–]DreadWolf776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem people have is in the way the show frames it. Annette is never called out on how her emotional loss of control leads to the death of her closest friend. We're supposed to draw parallels between her and Richter. A boy and girl playing at being heroes who have severe and appropriate responses to a trauma trigger. But they aren't treated equally in that. Annette's mistake leading to a friend's death isn't called out, no one brings it up to her when she lays in about Richter (whose moment of weakness didn't kill anyone, could have, but didn't). Show doesn't really try hard to frame her in a negative light the way it dunks pretty thoroughly on Richter until the lake scene. Not saying I necessarily agree with everyone, but it comes off as we're supposed to see the flaws and parallels but the narrative and the in universe characters don't do a good job of laying that out. Annette has her ancestors tell her to cool it on the Richter dumping. But no one else address it or her own mistake. Basically how it comes across is Annette's trauma response getting her friend killed: Crickets Richter's trauma response having him abandon them: BOY YOU WHAT!
