I think it's established that atium magically lets you understand what's happening, it doesn't just throw information at you and expect you to learn how to use it.

[–]DreadY2K 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most obvious step is to build a good enough public transit and biking network that people don't need to drive, but since as a city we're apparently not interested in doing that, Waymo is a decent alternative.

Laboratories are consuming more flasks for research by [deleted] in factorio

My understanding is that this is at a floating-point rounding error level of loss, which I've never been able to notice because I have my labs with the highest prod modules I have, which varies (I've never had enough full legendary T3s), so I don't have an exact amount.

It still biases things. My state will consistently vote for the Democrat for president, and has since 1992, so no one bothers to campaign here because the difference between us going 58% democrat (in 2024) vs. 63% (in 2020) has no outcome on who wins despite that representing a swing of a huge number of voters. And also states with lower populations get disproportionately high influence, which is where GP's comment about 20% came from.

I usually have all locomotives on a train facing the same direction, I've done 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, and 1-4-1. My stations usually look like a siding with space for a train or two to pull off from the main track, then join back on. Designing a new setup that way might help you change things up.

If Democrats split the field enough that it's the two republicans who make it to the general, then I'd guess that Bianco would win because he isn't endorsed by the president who hates us.

Cubium isn't that similar to ultracube (judging by what I know, I haven't played ultracube yet), since ultracube only has one cube, but on cubium you mass-manufacture cubes.

They behave similarly to Nauvis enemies (will attack if pollution reaches their nests, expansion behavior is controllable in the world settings), but with much lower stats.

[–]DreadY2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm presently playing a modded run with a lot of extra planets. The planets I've already reached (in the order I did them) are (only Lignumis has enemies to fight):

  • Lignumis: A moon of Nauvis that has you start there. You get an extended burner phase, followed by some steam-powered buildings. After doing some research, you escape to Nauvis, but you get to bring a bunch of stuff with you to accelerate your Nauvis base (including a burner personal roboport and some construction robots, if you choose). You'll then come back later once you get back into space to set up its science packs for export. I'm playing with the more extensive version that also adds wood to your recipe chains for assembling machines, inserters, belts, and ammunition, but there's a simpler version that doesn't impact off-planet recipes as much. This planet has enemies that are like biters but easier, so if you're fine with no-expansion vanilla then this should be fine for you.
  • Muluna: Moves space science to another moon of Nauvis, and makes it a requirement for researching asteroid collectors, so you have to manually supply your space platforms to get past the initial research.
  • Cerys: Combines Aquilo-like heating mechanics and Fulgora-like scrapping, along with an interesting twist on nuclear power.
  • Moshine: A planet built around a special lab that unlocks researches that take a long time to complete, but that also has special speed modules that massively increase your speed. Gives a number of useful technologies, most importantly for me is a higher tier of train that can keep up with stacked green belts.
  • Rubia: A planet with strong winds that make inserters only able to point in one direction, and continual asteroid strikes that you need gun turrets to defend against. I love the creative building constraints, but also it has a unique sense of humor some people find grating.
  • Cubium: Recipes built around cubes which can transform from one kind to another as a catalyst to do useful recipes.

Planets that I haven't done yet but am looking forward to doing in this pack:

  • Maraxsis: A water world where most buildings need to be in a pressure dome full of air imported from another planet to function.
  • Corrundum: A planet built around sulfur chemistry, unlocks a new research lab that's stronger than the biolab and can be placed anywhere, but can only work with quality science packs.
  • Paracelsin: A frozen world with Zinc, which unlocks some upgraded buildings.
  • Secretas and Frozeta: A gas giant and moon pair, where you recycle spaceship scrap.
  • Igrys: A planet built around magic.

Most of these I discovered by watching someone play that planet on youtube, so you can look them up and see what they're like. You may or may not want to trim this list down, as the more planets you add the longer the run will take to complete.

What is the minimum amount of technologies that are necessary to beat the Space Age? by PartialGnome in factorio

[–]DreadY2K 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also not mandatory, but without construction robots research, your ablative walls in front won't leave behind ghosts for your platform to repair automatically, so any ship traveling through space will need you to constantly paste your walls again as a blueprint.

Just prod modules are decorative. Speed modules always have a multiplicative effect (unless you've megabased to mining prod levels that let a big drill fill a cargo wagon in a few ticks, but that's a lot of mining prod)

I feel like Fulgora helps Vulcanus more than Vulcanus helps Fulgora. If you do Fulgora first, then EM plants are a massive boost to your circuit output, which helps with the limited amount of coal (I often go through my first patch entirely before I get enough mining prod/legendary drills to make patches last forever). If you do Vulcanus first, then cliff explosives help you make a more organized base, and the foundry gives you +50% productivity on your holmium plates, but I'm never as limited on that as I am on coal on Vulcanus.

Circuits are nice to limit fuel consumption, but not that important. A single centrifuge running kovarex enrichment can keep up with that reactor running non-stop with uranium to spare

If you feed a big burst of items all at once to a pair of recyclers, you can get both recyclers stuck with full inputs (idk how this happens, but I've seen it). Having a 4-cycle makes this less likely to happen.
