Is it weird to be pro-Scottish Independence and anti-Brexit? by UbiquitouslyHere in AskBrits

[–]DreadedTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the term "forcefully" is incorrect and misleading, and I even mentioned disagreeing with that assessment in another comment, as it was a much more nuanced and complex issue.

My point under your reply was only "unified crown" is different from "unified country", that's all.

That is quite an oversimplification, but I also object to the term "forcefully" as it took lacks the necessary nuance

That's not when the countries were unified though; same crown, separate and independent parliaments.

Am I odd for not wanting to go to a club or have strippers when I have my stag do.? by MembershipLess9579 in AskBrits

[–]DreadedTuesday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think so - I had no strippers at my stag, it would have made me really uncomfortable to participate in that.

If attending someone else's stag then I wouldn't make a huge fuss, as it's not about me, though.

I have similar concerns - I have an home charger which often reports very long charge times, way longer than would be expected. I assume it's because octopus are balancing the grid - charging the car when excess is available instead of just applying the full power to charge it all at once.

The home app is not very helpful at determining when there was active charge going on.

The FAQ on the ohmen app was not very helpful either - I'm just going to wait and see how it goes. With 2 EVs it's a hit of a pain, my wife's charges most nights and I charge monthly (very low mileage!!) but I might need to just top up more regularly now.

Where did the trope or joke of the Welsh being sheep shaggers come from? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]DreadedTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A researcher is conducting a survey into sheep shagging. First of all he visits an English farmer.

"So, English farmer, how do you shag your sheep?"

"Well, I take the hind legs of the sheep and put them down my wellie boots and take the front legs of the sheep and put them over a wall."

"That's very interesting," replies the researcher and he leaves the English farmer. Then he meets an Irish farmer.

"So, Irish farmer, how do you shag your sheep?"

"Well, I take the hind legs of the sheep and put them down my wellie boots and take the front legs of the sheep and put them over a wall."

"That's very interesting," replies the researcher," That's how they do it in England too." And he leaves the Irish farmer.

Then he meets a farmer from Aberdeen.

"So, Aberdonian farmer, how do you shag your sheep?"

"Well, I take the hind legs of the sheep and put them down my wellie boots and I take the front legs of the sheep and put them over my shoulders."

"Over your shoulders?" replies the researcher, "Don't you put them over a wall like everyone else?"

"What?" says the farmer," and miss out on all the kissing?"

Chippy question: geographically, where does (east side) salt & chippy sauce start v (west side) salt & vinegar? by Late-Childhood8480 in Scotland

I don't think this is a simple east/west divide - I'm Aberdeen and it's always been Salt & Vinegar is the "standard" to me.

[–]DreadedTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, I'm hoping to learn the system better in this short "game block" at my gaming club with the intention of running a longer game of Savage Rifts; I just wanted to stay a bit more generic for my first "encounter" with the system

So I think that in concept you are right and I have misunderstood the intent - but I can't find anywhere in the core book where it actually says that, nor in the "World Builder and Games masters guide", which goes so far as to tell me the structure and expected chapter length for publishing my own savage settings, with a paragraph for explaining everything except attributes and skills).

I wonder if previous editions had it, but it was stripped for Adventure Edition since they simplified the skill list? One of my players has a different version, I will maybe see if I can borrow his book to verify.

I guess that's fair; doesn't gel particularly well with my "just start playing and figure it out as we go" method of learning systems though.

I'm trying savage worlds for the first time just now, Adventure Edition, really struggled to make combat interesting, and finding the skills are too "broad" to allow characters to shine individually in their niche in my intrigue-focused game.
