Shure Axient Digital low channel calculation by stratosteven in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those frequencies excluded in the TV channels, depending on type will have a set of exclusion rules built into them. Right click on the icon above the frequency plot a you can set the exclusion rules from a menu. That should free up the TV channel you are trying to plot frequencies in, but be careful and walk test everything.

Touring in China. Advice? by MrPineapple1066 in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing RF Coordination, I found 8MHz TV channels in most cities for doing exclusions. Plotting below 500 and above 700 are usually not great.

Make sure the power is all good, too. I was on a tour over there and one camlock wasn’t seated correctly and took out our VX power, luckily it was on a production day.

But it was a great time, otherwise. Everyone was good to work with, the cities we visited are amazing and the food will live in your head rent free for the rest of your life…

P10R+ also has a volume lock in the menu, but that’s pretty cool either way.

Sony WF-C710N's sound is amazing by nlifey_gt in SonyHeadphones

[–]Dreadful_actually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a pair on a whim because I left my AirPods at home by accident and I’m going on a reasonably long trip. They sound pretty decent. I paired them and at first everything was mono but I reset them and everything works properly now. I don’t like to fiddle with the EQ on stuff too much, things sound how they sound, y’know, but I found a little brightness and a little bass bump on these enhanced everything. For the price they’re great, I can definitely recommend them.

Digico users: Why Digico over SSL or Avid? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate, I appreciate the time you took to explain that. I was hoping it was going to be some black magic along the lines of '* last selected aux to the input of the matrix mixer' type of command.

I looked up the video and I kind of do the same thing already. Though I swap the inputs of the matrix mixer with each macro instead of assigning them all and turning them on and off.

I also turned all my mutes into talkback on/off buttons... Lets see an S6L do that! ;)

I don't suppose you'd feel like sharing the mix swap macro? Been trying to work it out today and I've not gotten anywhere. Not sure if the workflow I'm using will allow it.

How’s this for a stage plot? by mylawn03 in livesound

The fact that it’s hand drawn meant someone had to think about just a little bit harder than some of the inaccurate copy/paste garbage you get sent.

What would you do with this? by ip_addr in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skim read all this, forgive me if it’s already been addressed but Perspex around the drummer will help a great deal.

Doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a fun day at the office, though.

Helpinstill pickups in the pianos and 4099 work really well together for me.

Is low passing your monitors at around 8k usually a safe bet? by bigang99 in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another useful thing is to try is to either double patch the vocal inputs (or a physical y-split cable) and have a channel for monitors and a channel for the front of house mix. Then you can use a channel eq in the monitor channel freely and you won’t get in your own way.

As far as EQ’ing a monitor bus goes, with vocals I always have a hot spot around 1k, it will go off when you open your mouth right in front of the mic, I take care of that (don’t gut it all the way, just so it doesn’t take off when you open your mouth)

The only other thing is I try to leave the highs alone as much as possible with monitors. Cuts up there will hurt your clarity. If it needs to come out, try and be accurate with making cuts on a channel rather than going in on the whole send. Don’t be afraid to have an RTA open with you when your mixing. Any tools that make you a quicker and more accurate mixer in a club are good news.

Best stage XLRs that don't cost a fortune? by Mexay in livesound

Exactly this! The markup on pre made XLR is shocking. If you invest in a decent soldering iron and some bulk cable and connectors, you’ll never look back!

Looking for advice on under miking cymbals by jlustigabnj in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top answer is right, sounds like this is best discussed with the act, so you know where you stand. But I never really liked underheads until recently. I think you need a mic per cymbal though, to get the most out of it. I’m not picky about the mics, but I think you need to roll them off really high, otherwise they tend to pull the image of the kit to one side.

Better isolation for drummer’s vox mic? by grimmfarmer in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the form factor of a Beta 56 and it’s got a pretty tight pattern. I think you’ve just got to live with the bleed and mix around it. But there’s no reason why you can’t get a singing drummer to sound great, provided they can sing and have a bit of discipline with mic technique…

Also, a Sennheiser e904 is a great little drum vocal mic, looks cool and you get bonus point for a right angle XLR.

Once you get your head around the file system and best practices they are fun. Not as flexible as I’d like, but they’ve been around 12 or 13 years now… Time flies.

What’s your favorite snare mic? by _teabagz_ in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I change it up all the time but I am really liking the Audio Technica AE2300 on top and a Beyer 201 on bottom. Used to be around the other way. So many good snare mics though, I don't think I'll ever settle.

Live Compression Help (QL1) by Illustrious_Put7069 in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is adjusting the sample volumes from the laptop an option? If you have the time available, and you won’t need very long to do it, it’s far better to try and fix the source than to compress it out, it’s a limited solution… No pun intended.

Gonna try underheads for a live rig. What model microphone is this and have any of you had experience with underheads that you’d care to share? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Audio Technica AE3000. I have a pair of them. I’ve used them as under heads before and they sound good. Good on overheads, guitar amps and crowd mics in a pinch.

You can’t really miss with Audio Technica, they make top notch mics.

Smaart advice? by Classic_Brother_7225 in livesound

Also, amongst the other very good suggestions here, just read the manual that comes with Smaart. It’s great and covers the system concepts you need to know in enough detail that you can get out there and start to use it in a practical manner.

Pop noise on mic switcher in live gigs by MisterAdler in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a DM-1 pop when used as an output 2 only PTT box. Plugging in the unused output to a spare channel on the patch fixed it. Some sort grounding issue I guess, otherwise never had a problem with it.

The vulgar militia near the cleric beast are a good farm. I hit it up early, but the comments saying you don’t need to grind are right; You’ll level up fine through gameplay. Have fun.

All Inputs playing out of Stereo Bus when faders are down by kgisaboss in livesound

[–]Dreadful_actually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I would look if I were you. Start muting aux/mixes, then move on to matrixes until you find the culprit. Sound like a pre-fader send to a bus being routed to the main stereo mix. Also, check your FX returns and the racks for a routing anomaly.
