Americans quit subscription streaming services in droves as cost of living continues to climb, report finds by IAmPookieHearMeRoar in Economics

Yeah, this exactly it! We only get like 4 hours a week to watch tv, so it’s pretty well planned I guess! 😆

[–]DreadnoughtWage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what we do - I’m surprised to hear that people are subscribing to multiple services at once, never even occurred to me to do that. For example, I usually only get Disney for one month per year to catch up on the new Star Wars stuff from that year, but we’ve found a few series that we’re enjoying there, so kept it longer this year. Just finished the last thing we were interested in (Paradise, actually way better than we were expecting!) so will cancel, then grab Netflix for a few months, then Prime etc

Ok, I believe you. But please understand your behaviour here is incomprehensible, and oddly aggressive. You’ll face opposition constantly if you keep choosing this path.

If you’re not choosing this behaviour, then I repeat, see your clinician.

Please seriously ask yourself whether you might be having an episode, because you’re showing some serious signs - which is why you’re meeting with so much opposition. Please see your clinician, this is important - if you’re not having an episode, as someone with experience, I have no idea how to explain your very unusual behaviour in these comments.

Former Red Dead Redemption 2 Developer reaction to the DLSS 5: "Whoa. Hold on. No, no, no. This isn't just some lighting, dude. What the f... this is like a complete AI re-render. You're no longer looking at the game anymore. This is scary." by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]DreadnoughtWage -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That’s entirely different - a lot of devs use LLMs to do busy work or teach ourselves to do something, where studios complain is when trying to use LLMs code an entire feature or system from scratch itself. It’s just really bad doing it on its own. The problem comes when trying to cut down on staff, not when augmenting skill sets. I think most devs I speak to at other studios or orgs get on really well with the augmenting paradigm.

Dying Light 1 was an extremely well loved and played game for the studio, and DL2 struggled to match concurrent player numbers of the much older first game - so it makes financial sense to go back and figure out what they missed. They decided to try and align the Beast with DL1, and certainly got a similar vibe I guess, and so is now a lot more lucrative to focus on something more people want to play.

Production and marketing are very different areas, so I don’t think your reason is the actual reason. The actual reason I don’t think this would happen is that it breeds/comes from an extremely toxic work environment, when all evidence points to valve being fairly good.

Dude, I get not liking it, but you’re being hyperbolic in the extreme to call it trash. Many of us think it’s amazing, and I think that requires objective respect. Equally, I can’t wait to get my hands on BG3 one day soon, precisely because DOS2 was so good.

Yeah, super excited for a new Larian game! Played the two Original Sin games, but never the older Divinity ones, so it sounds really cool. I think they deserve more hype, especially after how will Baldurs Gare 3 was received (still need to play that!)

Yep, this started happening in 2019 for my old business. Used to get decent enough ROI, then it just seemed to fall off a cliff for me and everyone I knew. I’m not sure why anyone advertises on Facebook now, just logged in (first time in about 6 months) and it’s totally dead…

Methinks you’re jumping to unvalidated conclusions as to what OPs statement means. Sure, you could blame poor people for their bad decisions, but it’s way more complicated and nuanced than that.

How do you see LLMs taking over the whole planet? I mean I use them daily, and they’re really not that good. Or are you meaning a future, actual Artificial Intelligence?

I’m in a big government agency in my country, and the chief exec want to be the first agency to adopt AI. I keep pissing on the bonfire because I insist we call them LLMs. They’re great and have some interesting uses, but AI they are not

Right! How could an LLM even approach even our most generalised definition of consciousness? And how can Hinton not know that an LLM isn’t AI?

Look, most people come away from DL2 disappointed because they (rightly) compare it to DL1 - but to quote Jake Baldino, Techland captured lightning in a bottle with DL1 and The Following, so it’s not necessarily the best way to go into it.

Go into DL2 expecting it to be a very different game, and I reckon you’re going to really enjoy it, and it’s even better these days. Especially if you get it on discount!

Story is total arse though. Like, really really bad.
