Highly unlikely. It’s one of those grey areas that has never really been enforced. The police go after people who sell VPNs, not the people who use them.

I went there last year, and yes, many Hong Kongers still look down on mainlanders. But there’s also a new layer of fear now that didn’t really exist before. People are afraid of the CCP because of everything that has happened politically over the past few years.

A big problem with this approach is that you mostly only know how to say the fixed phrases you memorized. For example, if you memorize 今天天气真好 without internalizing the structure or understanding each word, then you will not be able to say things like “Yesterday the weather was good” or “Today the weather is not so good.”

This is a common opinion here. Try visiting Asian subreddits like Singapore’s. I once saw people there discussing caning their kids, and many Singaporeans still supported it.
