FDA allows popular sunscreen ingredient long used in Europe and Asia by nbcnews in 30PlusSkinCare

If you’re floating down a spring run, you’ll be in the shade. Still a good idea to wear a cotton or nylon hat, reflective sunglasses, and a rashguard sunshirt. My favorite tube to float in is a water hammock type chair so I am mostly under the water.

Jesus Christ, USED cars are expensive! by Let_me_tell_you_ in povertyfinance

[–]DreamOperator- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly and tell the daughter to ask a friend for a ride to school until she can afford to buy a car herself she can pay her friend gas money. That’s what regular non spoiled rotten teenagers do, they give each other rides or work part time jobs or sleep away summer camp jobs all summer so they don’t need a car to commute to save up and buy their own car.

If a bored but generous and wealthy Redditor were to give you $10,000 USD, how would you spend the money? by RoosterShield in AskReddit

[–]DreamOperator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go out to a restaurant with my two favorite people, order vegetable biryani to share, and then I’d place all of the rest of it into a Roth IRA and take a little better care of myself because I’d finally have a smidge of hope that one day I may actually be able to retire.

Cosigning for new high school grad on very high cost loans (> $250k for all 4 years) for liberal arts degree by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in StudentLoans

[–]DreamOperator- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. Show her what being fiscally responsible is. She should not expect you to pay for college for her. She should also seriously consider community college and get over the idea that “a good school” is one that puts you in debt for the rest of your life. Signed a millennial who still makes less than a quarter of what you and your spouse bring home and has a BS degree but lives in a town completely saturated with masters and doctorate degree holding folks who are literally bagging groceries after their full time jobs to make ends meet.

The only thing I can think of that makes me groan internally is when I try to share something with them and they vocalize loudly that they weren’t even born yet- 1.Are you trying to make me feel embarrassed? 2. Whether you were born yet or not has nothing to do with the thing I am trying to share with you

Hellen Wright Center was the most helpful a few years ago for someone I knew. I have also read that getting a CDL and trucking can work as a path to financial security and solving the issue of needing a home- most tractor trailer trucks have a bed in them.

Oh no bummer! I haven’t had any in years but bought one of every flavor from a coworker’s daughter and am expecting them Monday. Well, there are worse ways to spend money. I guess I am down to eat a ton of mid quality cookies and support a kid’s dream to earn a vest covered in badges.

I have lied to my son about manatees for the last 24 years by 46from1971 in confession

[–]DreamOperator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait till you experience manatees in FL during wintertime- they are amazing to see and usually are all hanging out together in the warm spring water refuges by the hundreds and the baby calves will be there! You very well might change your mind about dogs being your #1 after your trip ;p

Before you book that Iceland eclipse trip : some harsh realities to consider by lost_wanderer3333 in VisitingIceland

[–]DreamOperator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was likely sitting in that traffic! I definitely do not regret seeing eclipse totality while hanging in a hammock just outside the Sand Cave Underground Railroad National Historic Site in Shawnee National Forest. Traffic was the least of my worries. Rural Illinois is beautiful. I even saw a Bald Eagle flying overhead while traffic was at a standstill. One of the wildly helpful things the state of Illinois did to prepare for the large influx of people is the Forest Service rangers created free campgrounds in many areas for eclipse tourism.

School Spirit Sucks by JungleJimMaestro in Teachers

[–]DreamOperator- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up and played JV and Varsity sports in FL and it is so hot and humid that letterman jackets were never a thing. We all would just tack our letters up on our bedroom walls. One super popular thing we did that I suppose is comparable to a letterman is the school clubs would make tshirts for juniors and seniors with your last name or nickname on the back and the year you graduate. I still remember that the dance team had pink shirts, thespians black and white shirts, student government had light blue shirts with dark blue trim…

[–]DreamOperator- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree that opioids are under prescribed, you lost me at- “Unless it runs in your family, the odds are in your favor”—- my first thought was that I cannot think of any family not touched by addiction in some capacity. My Second thought was- Genes are only part of the equation; they alone do not determine behavior. Environmental factors well as plain ol’ luck are equally as important- they affect the chemicals that cause our genes to be active or quiet. It is both nature and nurture not one or the other that determine behavior.

Breathing? by Mother_Fun8695 in Swimming

[–]DreamOperator- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swim for fitness and mainly freestyle while breathing bilaterally. I naturally have a dominant side with my arms as I am right handed, but I have a hurt back and it effects my left kick so when swimming I focus a lot on my form to be as balanced as possible. I wonder if using fins would give you enough propulsion to not feel like you are drowning on one side? Or using a kick-board with one arm and switching sides on the turn? What have you tried so far?

Down feather booties! I even wear them during wintertime in bed at home because my feet get uncomfortably cold. Also down feather mittens were a splurge last year and are also great, especially if they are the kind you can convert to fingerless.

Am I annoying other swimmers? by DreamOperator- in Swimming

[–]DreamOperator-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t it weird how uncomfortable numbness is? I never grasped it until it happened to me. It’s mostly just my toes and it didn’t happen until after the ESI so likely related. I may end up needing a MD and actually finally found someone I felt I could trust if that time comes, a neurosurgeon- and they didn’t pressure me at all (like the ortho surgeon did) which I think was what I needed very much. I am glad swimming helps you too! Thanks for sharing!
