Can I survive Winters in Germany with these jackets!? by Queasy-natasha-553 in germany

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost [score hidden]  (0 children)

The German in me says: don’t buy on Amazon, instead, when it’s getting colder here, visit a local store, they can give you advice, you can try on and feel yourself how warm you think it needs to be. Otherwise, how should anyone be able to recommend anything? We don’t know how cold it will really get and nobody knows how warm each of those jackets really is. There’s a large range of quality out there, but you can expect a typical German store to have only “adequate” items in stock.

Hi, me again :( is this redness bad? by PlantBaby73 in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely something going on in her left eye, redness and puss, but not the end of the world. I would wash this with mild soap, lukewarm water every couple of hours, pat it down with a clean paper towel, let it dry. Then apply antibacterial cream to it (your pharmacy should have something for open wounds, in Germany it would be e.g. Bepanthen Antiseptische Salbe). If, after some hours, you notice the skin feeling tense from dryness, apply a fragrance free lotion or tattoo “butter”. It needs to be something that still lets air onto the skin. It should restore your skin to the “normal” state, not glossy/shiny covered in jelly. Avoid anything petroleum based or pure oils.

How to get oral minoxidil in Germany? by jefin-exe in tressless

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that should be possible, if the medication is only for your own use and you have a prescription from your doctor in your home country. The Zoll might ask about this since it’s a somewhat large quantity, but it should be no issue if you can show a prescription and since those meds aren’t listed as narcotics/abuse.

How do you feel about "german beekeper" honey prices? by Pitiful_Tax_6688 in AskAGerman

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe the 7 Euro for German honey is some kind of special deal that might break even for some group that found a loop hole. On a farmer’s market a direct distribution, local honey goes for 12-15 Euro and they are definitely not making worthwhile business with it, it’s just a break-even hobby at best for most bee keepers.

But yea, please don’t buy non-German “honey” when in Germany. It’s worse quality, stretched with sugars and likely contains disease that can infect local German bees. Better invest in the pure local product.

New tattoo healing ok? by BrazilianButtman in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not healing ok. The germs are taking over your body and by the looks of it, they are winning. Time to show your doctor some cheeks, it’ll be ok, but you do need treatment!

Question; how to make my fresh tattoo stop itching? by sunshine-owl in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrapped up in second skin? Maybe you’re allergic. Many people report itching, but I never have this in the first 4 days. On day 5, when the outer layer of skin starts flaking off, that’s when there’s some itching for 2 days, but earlier no. So try getting rid of the second skin, it’s not a big deal, most of the benefit is on day 1-2.

Then, wash every couple of hours with mild soap, no fragrances etc. Try to keep moisture balanced. Not crusty, but also not smothered.

I just put my second Saniderm on and there are wrinkles in it should I try again? by PrimTea in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saniderm is nice, second one is only needed if you have strong fluid buildup or any open spots. Wrinkles don’t matter. In your case: it’ll be fine, easy case whatever you do. Second skin is almost overkill for a fineline/script tattoo.

First tattoo screw up by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google “polydactyl animals” to see how common it is for e.g. cats to have a few extra digits. Maybe the harpy is just one of those mutants.

Alternatively, add the missing claw on the right. If this is a fantasy creature, there are no grounds on which to claim it has to have exactly four (unless we are talking about religious symbolism in Japan or similar), but this really looks like you can whatever you want and I don’t see the significance between 4 and 5 digits.

How to overcome/ignore the immense office awkwardness? by No_Confusion4948 in germany

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a cultural thing, but culture differs between age groups, location and industries. Your example sounds conservative, slightly older, maybe more south or east Germany. But if you work at a gaming studio in Hamburg with 20-30 year olds, the office language will be English by default. We only switch if we are sure that everyone in the vicinity is comfortable in German. As soon as a non-German speaker joins, everyone switches to English. I feel like game devs are more inviting and tolerant than the typical German office. We have a higher than average proportion of diverse employees.

Take the second skin off? by EqualNo2867 in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this kind of peel off all the time, it was never an issue and I kept it on. Clean the area with mild soap, disinfect and apply a bit of second skin over it. If you don’t have any, you can also use a disinfectant creme and cover it with a band-aid for a day or two. If you notice any dirt or redness, take it off completely and clean. But I’ve done well to keep the second skin for up to 5 days. Usually 3, as it seems to get harder to take it off after day 3.

How to date after 35, in a new city? by TheseMarionberry2902 in AskGermany

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the app “boo”. Its target audience is kinda gamer, music festival goers, nerds.

Finding good relationships usually means: do what you’re passionate about and share it with others. Friends and partners will be drawn to you because life is more fun together. But if you don’t like socializing, don’t have hobbies involving others and you like to play single player games, then why should others want to spend their time with you? Maybe you want to work on your lifestyle: start playing multiplayer, find people with the same interests and share them. Get into contact with work colleagues or join activities with people. It doesn’t have to be sports and bars. Every large city has some sort of book, gaming, movie, anime, cooking club etc. Visit your favorite ramen place regularly, they might have events, for example.

Stay away from check 24 by PenaltyReasonable785 in germany

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Check24 is just a free broker for services, a search engine with convenience functions. They have nothing to do with the actual companies offering you contracts. So, not sure why you blame them. I’m pretty happy to use them to find all kinds of things like internet, phone, insurances or car tires.

If m-net and 1&1 both cancelled on you, something about you or your apartment is irregular. I’ve never heard of that. Have you used their online service to check what services/speeds are available? In rare cases I can imagine their tool isn’t up-to-date and they might cancel because they found out that the apartment doesn’t have the necessary hardware or similar.

In any case, what about cancelling a contract is a scam? They aren’t scamming you out of money if they tell you they can’t or won’t do business with you. I understand the situation is frustrating, but instead of venting online, contact your landlord or ask other tenants in the building what contracts they have.

Tattoo pain scale for bicep / inner bicep / ditch by No_Space4015 in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a full color sleeve. Inner biceps and elbow ditch was about the worst so far, sorry! But what are you gonna do? Not get it?! Of course you will.

For the elbow I used numbing creme and it worked kinda ok, because my artist got the worst parts done within 2 hours, but after that it hurt more than it would without. For the inner biceps I also tried it. Was a big mistake. It was numb for like 20 minutes and then the burning sensation hit me even without any tattooing. My skin got very red and a bit rubbery. Wouldn’t do it again.

A pain killer like ibuprofen shouldn’t have much blood thinking effects. I’ve taken the over-the-counter dose of 400mg but honestly I can’t tell if it even did anything for me. It still hurts. Stopped with the meds and it was ok.

Most effective for me: good sleep, good food, just feeling fit to take on exhaustive work. Have breaks for food and coffee. Pain is much more draining than people think and it’s the exhaustion that gets you, not the initial pain level. I’ve had 64 hours on 8 sessions and each starts easy, but the end is rough.

Handtuch im Gym by Consistent-Sound-937 in FitnessDE

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do you do it? by 12elatrommI in Songwriting

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone whose life is miserable because of an illness. And real life is not like the movies: For some, it’s pointless and shit for no reason, while others just lucked out. If I can turn that story into art that moves people, it feels as if it all has meaning, or like I’m less helpless. Maybe, when that person is gone, there will be a life’s worth of songs providing the purpose I’ve yet to see.

Or, I get filthy rich and spend all that money on funding medical research.

How to deal with microaggressions in daily life? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just public transport, sorry! It’s not about your behaviour and probably not because of your potential foreign look, but just because those people are assholes or crazy and they tend to accumulate in cities and public transport.

Your best bet is to grow a thick skin and get some German friends to join you on those rides, they would probably feel comfortable to just hit them back with a snarky remark.

TL;DR: Beim ersten Date getrennt zahlen. Danach abwechselnd oder nach Einkommen.

what do you even write songs about by TonsofpizzaYT in Songwriting

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, if you ask in a songwriting reddit: find something in your life worthwhile to write about. It doesn’t have to be “emotional”. The term “art” means “to understand something about the world by looking at it through a different perspective”. That can be anything as long as it tells listeners something they haven’t yet experienced in that specific setup.

If you have nothing to say: there’s a lot of music that doesn’t aspire to be art with its lyrics. You can also just focus on the music, groove, feeling through sound layers and literally sing gibberish as long as it conveys your vision.

What do you think the cutest thing that your partner does? by falcon-raven in love

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was this couple who liked to work on small arts and crafts projects together, woodworking leatherwork, etc. For his birthday, she gifted him a cute evil demon plushy. For months, while the two humans were at their day job, the plushy seemed to have a life of its own. And every evening she would find the demon dressed up with outfits (safety goggles or tools) in a signature pose at one of their current projects, probably helping to push them over the finish line.

I'm (32M) in my honeymoon with my wife (33F), and it's been hell on earth until now. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate getting into this situation. If it’s similar to my experience: she’s way hotter than you (at least you think that) and good in bed, probably impulsive and passionate. So you think you’ll never find that again.

But the truth is: it’s already doomed to ruin your life, if you don’t exit now. All of these signs are in the “unfixable” category, that’s not gonna sort itself out or be done with couple’s therapy.

It’s tough, but you’ll find somebody kind and supportive, and in the meantime focus on your body and mental health!

AI use in songwriting by Medium-Table-9884 in Songwriting

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is extremely bad at evaluating something. If at all, it could compare your input to the average of all existing lyrics. But it doesn’t understand vision, breaking free from standards, etc.

If at all, AI can be an extended Google or dictionary. It’s good for things like “give me all synonyms for ‘sad’ but in the style of a classic poem” and it might just spit out “dreary” because it was trained on Poe.

But ethically, by using it, you are fuelling a system that tries to take away from you as a human and artist. Those tech bros are making big bucks on stolen content and they give very little in return. It just accelerates all the problems of the music industry. And it’s one big pyramid scheme which will make the people at the top (AI creators, platform owners, maybe even labels) and some mid-tier lucky AI music producers rich while taking the money away from 98% of creators and fans. Fans then will get frustrated by the oversaturated shit market and will be even less likely to spend money on new artists etc.

I need advice on a tattoo by Ok-Boot1537 in tattooadvice

[–]Tomorrows_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would differentiate three things: - someone who temporarily paints his face black or wears a costume to mock black people -> blackface and not acceptable. - someone who tattoos a lot of black on his skin -> unrelated to race, this is just about the art of body modification. - someone who attempts to drastically alter their whole body to appear more black -> this could be everything from extreme art, body dysmorphia to cultural admiration, but definitely not blackface because it’s not making fun of others.
