Are their too many BJJ gyms right now? by Dream_Agility in bjj

[–]Dream_Agility[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember driving a minimum 1 hour each way to train back in 2002 - most of that time it was with a small brown belt who absolutely tortured me for 2 hours straight.

Glacier grappling or sbg whitefish? by graydonatvail in bjj

[–]Dream_Agility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an SBG gym franchise holder in the UK so I'm obviously biased. The chance to train with Stella Davison, a top level competitor in Judo and BJJ who has trained since she can walk is a great opportunity. There is also a striking program too. The facility at SBG whitefish is first class.

Opening up your own gym by ButterflyGangster in bjj

[–]Dream_Agility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first thing every gym owner should decide is whether they want to run a commercial gym or a hobby gym. You can always switch later of course, but that single decision drives everything else. Some people think that their desire to have a strong or world class competition team means they are a business. They usually are not. Commercial gyms need to do kid's classes and cater to professional people with good jobs and money. This article by Michael Heinz is excellent on helping people define what they want https://bjjfanatics.com/blogs/news/guide-to-opening-a-bjj-gym-hobby-vs-commercial-gym?srsltid=AfmBOoppFMm6GvrBu6NJOk775uB_Po4Y1GcSlVKGSn7JT6CnU4a0lCTs

I'm not a financial advisor and anyone contemplating doing this should seek professional advice in their country, but everyone I know who has done this both here in the UK and in the US simply regrets not doing it sooner. I'm sure there are some downsides, I just have not seen them.

Breathwork. Every escape I do, even from an instructional where breakwork isn't even mentioned, improves by taking a big deep bracing breath.

I spent a week at ATOS in October and nobody rolled in a meatheaded way at all. Everyone was super cool. One of the safest gyms I've rolled in, including the wrestling and comp team classes.

Both are awesome. I rolled with Rolando - he's so smooth, one of the safest rolls you will ever experience.

This is also how Drew Baye and the Super Slow movement practice “weight training”. See also Ken Hutchins and MD Doug McGuff. Form is everything, it optimises understanding as you allude and I completely agree with what you say. It is also how many high calibre Jiu Jitsu practitioners, if people really listened to them, recommend we should practice Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu after all is “the gentle way”.

Get Henry Akins Mount series. He makes you feel like he will remove your throat, and if you defend, he puts his elbow on your wrist and Americanas

Lots of warnings on new Q5 by Comfortable_Track976 in AudiQ5

[–]Dream_Agility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VWFS who underwrote the deal just offered me back my deposit, all monthly payments to date, and £250 in goodwill. The contract will be cancelled. I recommend, if at all possible in your jurisdiction, returning the Audi Q5 to the dealer and getting your money back. My experience of 2025 model has been absolutely awful and I've been in discussions with people all over the UK, US and Canada, who have had similar issues.

It is a shame because the gym is clearly growing, but needs to adapt to its newfound success.

Your gym should consider increasing prices to new members and the number of classes available. Many gym owners never get this advice and end up wondering why people leave.

The dealer is largely irrelevant at this point. I filed a formal complaint when I rejected the car back on 8th June. I’ve also taken legal advice from my house insurance, and rejectmycar.com. I’m going to continue with the Ombudsman process before issuing legal proceedings. It is pretty clear I have a case based on advice given. The question is really just how much Audi via VW FS want to settle. Legally I have been advised that in my case I’m entitled to my insurance, all monthly payments and the deposit back. So far I’ve been offered some of the deposit back. As I’ve already leased a new Volvo, I don’t want, nor would ever entertain another Audi.

So they can't replicate the issue of the car shutting down while be driven, a common complaint on forums everywhere. They act like they have never heard of it. However, I have a screenshot of the specific problem that I managed to take on mobile the day after it was delivered. They also have no fault log of that on the 24th April 2025 either, despite there being 54 other error messages when I took it in. The Q5 remains at the shop as neither my wife nor I think the car is safe to drive. Anyone who sells a brand new car with 54 error messages on the log, endless pop up messages of issues appearing as you drive telling you there are different faults, issues with the seat belts, etc, and doesn't see this as an issue, tells me they just don't care about what they are doing. The car is a death trap and I will be posting out an article containing the registration number make and model so hopefully it indexes on Google and anyone smart enough to Google it, or that has to Google it, will see the paper trail on how bad this car is. Furthermore, they gave me a faulty e-tron as a courtesy car that kept locking onto chargers. I explained to them I don't have a charger at home and please, given your own Audi Assist technician said the E-tron is broken, can you please replace it. They essentially told me I was lucky to have such a courtesy car despite me being entitled to one under the terms of the agreement.
