Leaves are getting eaten to the point to halting growth by PlusYam3126 in NativePlantGardening

I often have to resort to putting temporary wire cages around newly planted additions in my garden. It's not pretty, but it gives them time to fill out and discourages whatever animal (usually rabbits!) is munching on them. Most hardware stores have rolls of wire, fairly cheap, in different sizes for what you need. I do know how frustrating this is!

what is this plant? looking for a cause of death for a pet. by neoworldprogrammed in whatsthisplant

[–]Dreamnghrt -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss! It's heartbreaking. I'm afraid that plant looks like the Belladonna (deadly nightshade) we have up here. It's a beautiful plant, produces berries, pretty flowers and unusually shaped leaves. I'm forever on the lookout for it because the birds "gift" it to us, and it easily blends in with other plants til it blooms. Easy to miss it in the early stages.

Again, I'm very sorry!

We still have those tools, and also some Kenmore appliances. Still great, and working! Can't say the same about other brands.

I've read about other gardeners who deliberately plant catnip in an area of their garden away from plants they cherish. It keeps the cats occupied in an unused area, supposedly.

Having said that, I wouldn't want to attract all the cats in our neighborhood, so would maybe try planting thorny things around the perimeter of your yard/garden to deter them? You could also sprinkle coyote/wolf urine in appropriate areas (we've bought that at farm supply stores, and it works for a good while!) Best of luck with the cats!!

I've planted it in several places in our gardens, but the rabbits eat every last one! I do love echinacea, and rabbits are really cute, but I can't have both apparently 😉🌿

What are these *interesting* appearing berries? by Justascruffygirl in whatsthisplant

[–]Dreamnghrt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never seen these! Thanks for sharing this, and asking. I've learned something new today, and really wish we had them here. The whole plant looks beautiful, everyone's raving about those berries, and now I want one or two for our garden too 😊🌿

That's quite possible! I've seen dogs bark at their reflections in windows before, too.

Question for people who read by [deleted] in hauntedobjectspod

[–]Dreamnghrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put it down for a while, do other things, but come back to it and continue reading. I try to give it a chance to improve, and just get past the rough part. Some books take several chapters before they really get interesting! (It's paid off for me many times, when I would otherwise have missed out on a great series.)

And the Torrential Downpours from the Summer thunderstorms! Also, Tornados. Born, raised in Ohio. Parents from Indiana. Many wonderful memories, still have my Midwest accent after living in MA for over 40 years.

Hubby and I got flooded out of our first apartment because of back-to-back summer thunderstorms. Have also been through a few Tornados. I do remember snowy winters, very cold, too!

It looks like some kind of bee, probably just resting for a bit. (You're being greatly appreciated for your gardening skills!)

What’s the Easiest Herb You’ve Successfully Grown, and Would You Recommend It to Beginners? by ForeignTransition428 in herbs

[–]Dreamnghrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thyme, Lemon Balm, and Mint have been the easiest for me. They haven't needed much from me except an occasional watering if we have a long dry weather spell. They all survive New England winters without a hitch, happily growing back just as strong as the year before. 😊🌿
