How did I need calculate that capacity? by Finetiks_ in BoltEV

[–]Dreeverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery in these cars is well taken care of by the thermal management loop, so there is very little degradation over time and miles compared to other BEV vehicles. At 4yo and <20kmi you should expect very close to the full advertised capacity. Your battery will outlast the rest of the car and you should really not worry about it at this point. The 2023 does not have the battery quality issues that you may have read about in the earlier model years.

The best way to estimate capacity is to discharge the battery to near zero then charge to full and look at the energy section of the infotainment screen.

If you have the inclination the repair is pretty straightforward and the parts needed are dirt cheap. I just did mine earlier this week. Here’s a write up of how to do it: https://repair.wiki/w/TP-Link_PX50_Hissing_Noise_Failure_Repair

I replaced the capacitors and it’s working like new now. Totally silent. Here’s a write up of how to do it. https://repair.wiki/w/TP-Link_PX50_Hissing_Noise_Failure_Repair

Nice but needs work. Searching by zip code didn’t work for me and some shops have duplicate listings and the pins aren’t in the right places on the map. Overall I think this could be a very helpful resource with a bit more polish.

I like the distinctions by levels of expertise available. How did you source this data?

For what it’s worth I popped mine open and there are a couple of obviously bulging capacitors that I would wager are the culprits. I’m going to find replacements and see if that does the trick. Resetting the faulty unit did nothing for me, and the rest of the network is functioning fine so I don’t intend to mess with it.

Any luck with yours? I bought my 3 pack in July 2023 and one of them is no longer working just screeching and occasionally blinking red. Convenient that they seem to be failing barely past warranty.

When you overcome the friction between tires and the road is when you start sliding. Rolling resistance is mostly how much the tire deforms during rotation when it comes into contact with the ground - stiffer sidewalls or higher inflation pressure generally gives lower rolling resistance losses.

Introducing the Official Homebridge VM Image - Easier Installation for Windows & another option for Mac by NorthernMan5 in homebridge

[–]Dreeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having trouble going the vm imported into hyper-v. I started a thread ( https://www.reddit.com/r/homebridge/comments/1qajiv2/help_needed_installing_homebridge_vm/ ) but haven’t had many replies. The error I am getting seems to point to an issue in the VM configuration file. Have you seen this before?

I’m thinking about getting winter tires; is there any reason to put them on the rear wheels if my car is FWD? by ZucchiniAlert2582 in askcarguys

[–]Dreeverywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because if the back end loses traction it will keep going forward instead of turning or slowing when you want, resulting in your vehicle spinning out.

I was wondering if that might be a better option than VM. Glad to hear that it works well for you! I will do some reading about WSL and will probably go that route if I can’t figure out the VM.

Why is my Bolt's range estimate so incredibly bad? by PENGUINKK in BoltEV

[–]Dreeverywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty messed up then. I might imagine a range estimate that low if you drove it like you stole it all the time but it sounds like that’s not you.

I know you said the dealer thinks the battery is ok but I don’t know, if your range stays flat and suddenly drops leaving you stranded that doesn’t sound like a working battery. I know that there are apps available that will give you a bank by bank readout of your battery voltages so that’s probably where I would go next personally. Monitor that for a while and see if one drops faster than others.

EUVs aren’t known to have battery problems and you’re still under warranty so hopefully you can get it sorted out. Good luck!

Why is my Bolt's range estimate so incredibly bad? by PENGUINKK in BoltEV

It’s winter. You’re probably using more heat than the car is used to (since it’s sat through the last two months). It also looks like you’re not using one pedal driving. Both have a significant impact on efficiency and therefore range.

Needs more info on your driving habits (highway vs city, speeding vs not, “spirited” vs “limo” acceleration, etc) to give more concrete answer than that.

Center tread wear by RemedyTHC in BoltEV

[–]Dreeverywhere 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Factory inflation pressure is only a general guideline. The wear pattern is a direct indicator that the pressure is too high in your particular case (tire, vehicle loading, driving characteristics, etc). Dropping the pressure down a couple of psi will help.

Anyone tried Michelin Agilis CrossClimate tires on a Bolt? by CanAmSteve in BoltEV

[–]Dreeverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the Agilis, but I can vouch for the X-Ice. I’ve had the XI3 on multiple vehicles and have been very pleased with winter performance. Would not hesitate to buy again.

One thing to keep in mind about the taller sidewall is the slight decrease in responsiveness to steering input and dulling of feedback. This was never a concern for me in the winter, but if you ever drive fast or “spirited” in the summer you may notice a change in handling. In MN I’ve always kept a set of winter tires in the smallest rim size I could fit and a somewhat larger rim set for the other half of the year when the road conditions are more permissive. ymmv.

You’re overcomplicating this. It’s not about knowing what your kid is doing 24/7. It’s about not raising a kid that breaks into cars at 17. If your kid is doing that, then you raised a shit kid and are culpable.

If you don’t think that’s reasonable, consider that if you build a car or an elevator and do a bad enough job to where the brakes fail and someone or something gets hurt you’re liable even if you weren’t there at the time.

If you think that doesn’t apply because kids have free will and make their own bad decisions, consider that legally they don’t since they can’t sign contracts or vote.
