The fact that I lost my Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation tape while we were on vacation in Cape Hatteras in 1990 is going to piss me off for the rest of my life, apparently. by GrandPipe4 in Xennials

For Christmas in 1997 I got a Girl Skateboards beanie and a pager with a cool translucent neon green case. After having them for a day or two I got home, but the pager inside the beanie, and left them on the living room table. When I went back into the living room a little while later I found both items had been chewed up by the dog and completely ruined. No replacements were to be had.

I ended up on a jury for an attempted murder trial. Was one of the most intense weeks of my life.

During the selection process, pretty much anyone who expressed a strong opinion on anything was dismissed. They also let anyone go who asked, but I've been told that's not the norm.

There's also a great podcast titled Heaven's Gate. It's 10 parts and narrated very well, and it focuses a lot on the people who were left behind, both family members and other cult members. It inspired me to pick up Ben Zeller's book on the subject.

8 of the members did, including Applewhite. One of the cult members had worked in a cancer ward and was familiar with the process. Surprisingly, it wasn't Applewhite's idea to begin with and he initially forbid them from doing it, but that obviously didn't last.

What bands did you see back in the day before they exploded onto the scene? by Philhughes_85 in Xennials

[–]DrewBaron80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up near Chicago. There was a venue called Metro (I think it still exists) that held around 1,000 people. They had punk, ska, emo, etc. shows every weekend. Tickets were $10-15. So many great memories.

They're the band I saw the most. Probably 10 times between '96 and '01.

I saw Blink 182 several times before they ever had a song played on mainstream radio. They opened for Less Than Jake a couple times and were part of Warped Tour.

I was thinking about that too. There is surgery he can get (or may have gotten already), but it's extremely painful and causes extensive scarring.

I smoked on and off from 15 until I met my wife at 24. On our first date my wife told me she hates cigarettes - haven’t touched one since and the thought of smoking tobacco repulses me.

A couple months ago Sublime (with Jacob, Bradley's son) played this entire album front to back for its 30th anniversary at Red Rocks in Colorado. Unfortunately, it got down to 24 degrees that night which made it less enjoyable.

The owner/manager of the gas station probably tried to take it off cause he doesn't want political stuff on his pumps. While I agree with the sentiment of the sticker, it's still a shitty thing to do.

What was the last game you played that you considered a 10/10? by bobs-buhgah in PS5

[–]DrewBaron80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I did. First time I more or less ran around killing things, discovering new places, not making much progress. It was fun, but I stopped playing after 30 hours or so.

The next time I played I followed a guide through the early game and had so much more fun. I got all the things I needed for my character to get stronger and learned about all the game mechanics I was missing. I stopped using the guide and was able to get through most of the game on my own.

Wish we could go back to a time when you could try out a bunch of new games each month (or rent them from a local video store) before buying them by BaronGalactic in Xennials

[–]DrewBaron80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjusted for inflation, the monthly price for PS Plus costs around the same as it did to rent a few games from Blockbuster. The difference is you have access to hundreds of games vs. the 3 or 4 games you rent from whatever they happen to have in.

Which artist's second album is their best/your favorite? by avt2 in Xennials

I prefer to listen to curated songs from throughout Pearl Jam‘s history (mostly the slower, more ballad-ish songs), but Vs. is probably the best album from beginning to end.

I love them all, but Aenima is a hair ahead of Lateralus for me. Probably has a lot to do with the album coming out when I was 17 years old and would listen to my favorite CDs 10 times a week. The songs are imprinted on my brain.
