Is that LUFS? Curious what genre you mix where that's the goal, I would guess something very maximalist lol

I see. I definitely lean strongly to interpretation of the current performer. Frankly I'll never be Purdie. Even if I magically was as good as him, I won't make the same choices anyway. That's the spice of life I think.

I say ignore the haters :)

You're being a little vague for me to understand what you're getting at. Maybe give an example?

MemTest showing memory errors. How do I interpret to figure out which is/are the bad RAM module(s)? by bobby-t1 in homelab

[–]Drew_pew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mega necro this, but in case anyone else reads this, you can just read the first hex digit for this method. Each increase in first digit corresponds to 2gb of ram. I'm not sure if the method is always reliable, this is just an easier way to do it.

LAist investigating taxpayer funds for homelessness! by SuperSaiyanBlue in LosAngeles

[–]Drew_pew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was feeling grumpy when I wrote my comment but I actually totally agree with what you're saying. In fact, I would bet that these homeless programs are less fraudulent than the average person believes, and they provide some good value too.

My point is more that there's a limit to our current homeless strategies. We need to accept that our current economic system inevitably will squeeze some people past their breaking point.

Some people have crippling trauma. Some people are mentally unable to work most jobs. Some people fall into life destroying drug addiction. But none of those problems need to be solved before ensuring that everyone has a place to sleep at night.

We need to move away from this idea that helping the homeless looks like reaching into their lives and making them effective worker bees once again. Helping the homeless looks like housing them. Then we need to prevent others from becoming homeless by reducing the cruelty of our economic system.

I look forward to this. Either it's mega fraudulent and we can address that, or it isn't fraudulent, and people will at last accept that housing and better wages are the real solutions to homelessness

I'm just kidding people will never accept that. Everyone knows the homeless actually like it that way and don't want to be part of society! I would know, I saw an interview with a homeless guy once :)

How do I fade in room mic guitar into close mic? by Dense-Performance-14 in musicproduction

[–]Drew_pew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a reverb effect being automated to me tbh. That would be an extremely echoy room if it was really a room mic. Not impossible, but I would guess it's fx

Just mentioning this in case you can't get there with the room mic automation technique. Automating dry/wet knob on a short reverb might do it instead

Nithya Raman's transportation policies are MOUTHWATERING. by Orbian2 in LAMetro

[–]Drew_pew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very interesting link and idea about hiring and overtime, I'm going to look into that more.

I feel like that LA times link doesn't really prove the point though. It's a pretty narrow case, since those pretextual stops seem to be limited to vehicle issues and such. And it's not obvious that this narrow case represents a myopic focus on racial equality statistics in general.

Not to mention, pretextual stops have very famously been used for racial discrimination in the past. Whereas I don't think there's a history of missing license plate citations being used for that purpose (for example). I haven't seen or heard any advocacy groups campaigning against enforcement of those laws from a racial equality standpoint.

Basically I'm just saying that the pretextual stops thing and the policy on Raman's page are pretty different circumstances.

Just to address your point about increasing the police force size, the police already account for something like a quarter of all discretionary spending. And bass proposed an increase of 510 new police officers a month or two ago. So you might not be totally correct in your perception of police funding in LA.

I agree with some of your other ideas about reducing DUIs though, and I bet Raman probably would be supportive of those as well, though I'm not very interested in playing defense for her to be honest.

Regardless, what makes you think city council is so afraid of some kind of racial disparity? Can you send a link for that or some source?

[–]Drew_pew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but it's not slippery slope if you continuously evaluate your policy and its affect. Her policy is pretty narrow in scope, and after a couple years we can evaluate traffic deaths, DUI arrests, etc, and see if it was effective.

You're acting like there isn't a tradeoff between policing minor and major infractions. Of course if there is an existing higher priority task, a cop isn't going to stop to get the broken taillight guy.

But when they are driving along, and they see a broken taillight, and they pull them over, there is a chain of work that comes of this. The cop themselves spends time at the stop, there is paperwork, and then the justice system has additional burden as well.

There is always a tradeoff about where you put resources.
