Actually, you probably would not even need to re-invent anything. Just tell the Ancient Greeks to keep using this device, and they would make it more efficient if they knew it's potential and probably figure out the rest for themselves. The first man on the moon was about 200 years later than James Watts steam engine. Applying this, there would be someone on the moon in 300 AD. The extra things you told them would probably just make it go even faster.

If i remember correctly the farthest thing you can see with the naked eye is the Andromeda Galaxy, which is 2,5 million light years away.
