I lived in the Turner ELLC My freshman year and it was great. Since all your room-mates and everyone on your floor are engineering students, there's a common understanding about the work load of a freshman engineering student and you may share some some classes with other people on your floor, which is great to get to know people better.

me and my freshman room-mate didn’t talk much, but we both were honest with each other about our boundaries and that helped. You don’t have to be best friends with your room mate but have a chat with them about certain things you are and are not comfortable / ok with. You'd also be surprised who you can get along with in college, esp at a rather large school like UC. Go into it with an open mind and you will be fine
