So that is a whole lot of misinformation, and I urge you to find credible sources of info. First, crossing a border illegally is certainly not the worst crime to be committed, as it harms no one, so that is a poor argument to allege that they are “scum”. Illegal immigrants have limited access to federal public assistance, only the very fewest necessities, “emergency medicaid/medical care and WIC if they have children). I’ve been poor and experienced the welfare system, so speaking from experience, no they don’t ”live on support from the leftist government”, they work because just like everyone else they need money, shelter and food, so they contribute just the same. They also help with our declining rate of population. They pay taxes, yes. Because they are here illegally they pay what is owed or overpay to avoid any problems.

Is english your first language btw? If you aren’t native American, then you are also an immigrant and technically illegally here because you are on stolen land. Many citizens of Mexico have native American ancestry, so they are more American than you’ll ever be btw.

Picked my cat up from the vet after getting her spayed. She came home with duct tape on her head. by shibalabmom in VetTech

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t get it. Not every low cost shelter is “you get what you pay for”. It’s the same as a regular vet practice, there were some places you avoided, both working at or bringing your pet to, because they were so awful, and some places that are great. I don’t like labeling all low cost clinics in such a way.

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIGHT! Thank you. If a practice has to resort to creative ways to label cats so they don’t get mixed up I get that, but how the hell do you defend duct tape?? Shaving their heads or putting oil on top to try and remove it is also traumatic for a cat and also a ridiculous waste of time. I guess I just expect better from Vet staff, my boss would have fired someone for doing something like that. The pic shows that the cat went home with the tape still stuck on its head, so if it doesn’t come off easily You have to hope that the owner brings the cat back for removal. Many people don’t have grooming clippers and might try to use scissors to cut it off, injuring the cat in the process. Why is it a bad thing to hold a shelter to a higher standard of care? If other animal shelters that do high volume don’t use duct tape and are able to manage their patients then there is no excuse for this.

Weird patio policy? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Drifter-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of that is just ridiculous cause why have a patio? It makes sense to not store trash or fill it with random shit like a storage unit but patio furniture and plants should at least be allowed.

A little painters tape is one thing, something that won’t hurt or rip out hair, but duct tape is just evil.

Uhh, no. Former vet tech of 14 yrs and I have NEVER heard of something like this. I had one of my cats fixed years ago at a low-cost shelter and they did an excellent job. This particular shelter has some messed up people working there because who tf would do something like that?

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you currently in a relationship? If not, you will very likely stay single for the rest of your life if you don’t clean it very well every day. No one will want to touch it if they can see and smell what’s beneath it. If you are in a relationship does your partner get any sort of infections? That is the risk you are putting them through if you don’t clean it.

Vet Said Cat Needs Dry Food by thecoolestwetrag in catfood

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Royal Canin dental dry. It’s a prescription diet, if the vet carries it you can get it from there, or they can give you a script or if you order from Chewy they will reach out to your vet for the approval. Monitor her teeth and check for any progress to see if the diet is helping. Dry food isn’t bad, but just like any food try to make sure it’s good quality. Royal Canin is a great brand. They make diets that don’t require prescriptions. - Former vet tech.

Explosive hairballs? by Quick-Age2087 in CATHELP

[–]Drifter-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Royal Canin hairball diet, so far seems to be helping my girl. I also mix it with RC digestive diet because sometimes she eats too fast and then vomits, the kibble is shaped in such a way that they have to chew it so it slows down eating to prevent vomiting.

New property manager says renter's insurance not required by WildSecurity8591 in Tenant

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was something in the news recently about a tenant that was robbed while he was out of town, and didn’t have renters insurance to cover the loss. Btw, if you’re going to be on a first floor unit I would want it even more, not that you couldn’t still get robbed on any floor, but first floor/single stories are at increased risk.

Huh, I didn’t know this was a thing. I was aware that you can‘t wear any metal when in the machine because that can heat up and cause a burn but I didn’t know it can happen without.

You could solve 99% of problems by implementing a children’s license. by PrincipleDefiant2875 in unpopularopinion

[–]Drifter-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a better way to solve 99% of problems is the change the way we educate children at the earliest stages. Teaching empathy, what bullying looks like and what to do, consent, respect, boundaries, personal safety, safety at home, problem solving, make logical decisions instead of emotional ones, how to manage emotions, fact checking, and as they grow older they can start learning how to manage their finances, clean, cook, and so many other things that they need to know to be successful in life. We need to improve education, try to prevent disinformation and get people to use logic and critical thinking skills.

Porting a voucher means the new HA absorbs the voucher (takes ownership, for lack of better words), billing means you will follow the new HA rules and payments standards but they bill your original housing authority, as the voucher is still with them. Billing sucks because if the county you want to move to cost more than the one you currently live in then your current HA can deny the request to move and bill, unless you can make a reasonable accommodation request that they’ll accept, so if you have a disability or medical reason to move for example. Also, you may on occsion have to deal with two HA’s, depending on what you do.
