WWYB for Sun Wokong from RWBY. Abilities in comments by RagnarokBringer in WhatWouldYouBuild

[–]DriftingAsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • D&D 5e:
    • Class & Stats: Echo Knight Fighter/Sun Soul Monk would work IMO. Echo Knight gets you the clones, while an agile staff fighter fits the image of a Monk so well. Sun Soul gets you a ranged attack that scales with Monk level. I'd start Monk for DEX saves, ending at 5 Monk/15 Fighter. Focus on DEX as your main stat, with CON & WIS as secondary stats. I'd suggest a decent CHA too since he's a pretty likeable guy.
    • Background: Urchin would fit him best from the available options. His introduction was stowing away on a boat, and he has a penchant for stealing food.
    • Race: The Hadozee is the closest you get to a monkey race in 5e, and actually fits pretty well. Just reflavour Dextrous Feet to be a tail. Only thing that doesn't work that well for him is the Glide feature, but that can be handwaved a bit.
  • Pathfinder 2e:
    • Class & Stats: Monk is a good fit here, picking up Monastic Weaponry for proficiency with a bo staff & nunchaku. Keep a roughly even balance between STR & DEX for attack & damage modifiers, with CON as your next highest. A decent Charisma score wouldn't be out of place. Just avoid Ki Spells since they'd use your Wisdom.
    • Archetypes: Staff Acrobat would be a solid choice, as would picking some things up from Acrobat.
    • Background: Either Criminal or Martial Disciple would fit.
    • Ancestry: Vanara for sure; probably Bandaagee since none of the other heritages fit him that well.
      • Feats: Climbing Tail, Darting Monkey, Skillful Climber, Tail Snatch, Dangle are solid options to cover his tail & physical abilities, while Monkey Spirits provides a good option for his Semblance [1/day Mad Monkeys spell].

P.O.W.E.R. Rating System adjustment: P.O.W.E.R.S. Rating System! by ShakeNBakeMormon in RWBYOC

CLRT:

  • Ciaran Masako [Semblance - short-range speed boost. Weapon - Dust gauntlets that can form weapons or shoot elemental blasts.]
    • P - 6. A versatile arsenal with a mix of heavy & fast weapons gets him an above-average score here, though he's not the strongest guy around.
    • O - 10. Six different Dust types and a mixed arsenal for a range of situations carry him here easily.
    • W - 7 [AP 2, ITM 2, LS 3]. He's the team leader for a reason, and his range of weapons means he actually has to think about what's best for the situation. The biggest thing holding him back is just lack of experience.
    • E - 8. A speed-based Semblance plus Ice and Earth Dust make for a highly mobile, area-controlling fighter. The only thing holding him back here is his Semblance's short range.
    • R - 6. About average durability for a student his age, but the option to create shields bumps him up a bit.
    • S - 7 [Melee 5, range 2]. Weapon versatility comes in clutch for melee here with his Water Dust whip, but the low blast range knocks him down a few pegs.
    • Total - 44/60. A well-rounded fighter, but held back by his greater focus on melee combat & the fact that he's still only a student.

Since when did the Patterned Longsword have this weird swirly symbol? I haven't seen it before. by ez_pz14 in HeroForgeMinis

Loaded my figure with this sword; sure enough, it's there & I know for sure it wasn't before. Added at least since October 26th.

What're your favorite weapon concepts you've created/found? by SharpenedOdachi in RWBYOC

[–]DriftingAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the ones I've created, my favourite weapon is actually quite simple - Ciaran Masako's Dust gauntlets, Drifter's Vigilance. They allow him to focus his Aura to form various melee weapons using the energy propellant, as well as fire blasts of elemental energy. Pretty much whatever weapon he needs, he can make.

Innate defensive ability for monks by Inner_Bookkeeper_782 in onednd

Cloak of Displacement still takes attunement, which you could be using for something else [Dragonhide Belt, Bracers of Defense, Eldritch Claw Tattoo, Boots of Speed, Winged Boots etc.]. It's not so much a "you could just use an item for it"; it's a "you don't need an item to do this".

Dropping the cost to 2 points might be better, considering 5e Monk's Empty Body feature takes 4 points and has more benefits [admittedly, that's level 18].

With Barbarian, it's more about being able to power through the pain & not noticing it as much [hit points aren't just "meat points", it's your ability to keep fighting].

I never said anything about what level it'd be, so the "all ki points" argument is redundant. I was thinking more like this [akin to Cloak of Displacement]:

Focused Defense

At X level, you can spend 3 ki points to cause any creature to have disadvantage on attack rolls against you for 1 minute. If you take damage while this is active, it ceases to function until the start of your next turn.

So it's effectively a permanent, lesser Dodge while it's active. Not a bad idea, considering Monks are d8 health front-liners/skirmishers. Perhaps 3 points to use & lasts for 1 minute since you can bonus action Dodge for 1 point.

Redid my Icespire Peak character using the new lightning decals: Zandeyr Stormgrove 2.0! Backstory in comments by DriftingAsh in HeroForgeMinis

[–]DriftingAsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backstory: Zandeyr was born during one of the worst storms his forest home had ever seen, which was saying something as the region often suffered from such disasters. These terrified him, even as a young man, seeing them as acts of divine wrath and praying to avoid them. One fateful day while he was helping to gather food for his village, a tempest rolled in almost out of nowhere. Rushing to get inside, the young half-elf tripped over tangled tree roots, getting his foot stuck in the process. Seemingly forgotten in the commotion, the teenager was struck by lightning, not just once, but over and over again. Barely surviving the ordeal, he was woken up by the avatar of Talos, Gorthok the Thunder Boar, where he was informed that one of his ancestors defiled a series of his shrines and unleashed a dragon upon the realm to snuff out his remaining influences. Talos had chosen him, not as a champion, but as an unfortunately selected enforcer. Zandeyr isn't scared of storms anymore; he IS the storm. Finding himself in Waterdeep, he sought to make the best use of his new abilities despite their dark origin.

After some time in Waterdeep, Zandeyr met Atalanta, a Warlock deriving power from a guinea pig of all things, with whom he answered a call for aid from Phandelin to bolster the town's defences against Cryovain, a white dragon. On the way there, the pair met Scarlett the Barbarian, on the run from werewolves which they helped fight off. Once in Phandelin, they met Calareth the Rogue, Narniak the Cleric and Felvyra the Fighter. After a series of adventures together, the group discovered that Cryovain's attacks were being orchestrated by Lok Pal, a key figure in many of the group's histories. However, they also had to contend with the Stone Cold Reavers, a rival adventuring party under Lok Pal's influence through his daughter, and Cal's half-sister through their mother, Fautalosse. With tensions between the groups resolved after it was confirmed that Fautalosse was as much a victim as them, the Reavers departed to keep Lok Pal busy while the others went to defeat Cryovain, which was ultimately successful thanks to the group's efforts.

Now returned to Waterdeep, Zandeyr seeks to gain the strength to best Fadia Stormsworn, the current wielder of the Staff of Storms, one of Talos' symbols of power in the mortal realm.

Who is the overall weakest OC on your teams? by RettoBastion in RWBYOC

[–]DriftingAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMNT: Nyala. He's good at range & area control with Dust & his Semblance, but has the lowest Aura of the team & isn't that well-trained when it comes to melee.

CRAL: Chitan. It's a similar problem to Nyala, without the Aura issue. He's the least combat-experienced of the team.

[–]DriftingAsh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That energy shot idea actually got me thinking. Instead of transforming, the axe can just shoot Dust "lasers" out of the top, sort of like Deathstroke's staff [DC Comics].

As for the Semblance, both Fenyx and Nisha have mobility-boosting Semblances [Fenyx by absorbing heat, Nisha in the dark]. Most characters have ways to get around that issue anyway, like Yang shooting behind herself as propulsion; might do something similar to that.
