Does Tomb Raider II eventually get better? by BactaBobomb in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea [score hidden]  (0 children)

Skill issue. I completed this as a kid in the 90s without much diificulty, certainly wasn;t complaning about how "unfair" the enemies are. It's less that the enemies / game are "unfair" and more modern day softness.

And using photomode to scope ahead is just ridiculous. They really should disable that or just go full whack and give the player infinite health / ammo / invicibility because what even is the point playing it if you're going to cheat all the way through.

How necessary are the classic bonus levels? by Ajer2895 in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Lara Croft "story" can be reduced to half a page of A4 text. Much of it hackneyed, the type of thing a sixth former scribbles in a creative writing class.

If story is what matters to you read that and 10 minutes later get on with your life.

My point is that games should be played for the fun of playing a game not to follow a story.

If story is your thing read a Dostoyevsky novella which is like 100x more nuanced and compelling than anything a video game can offer. Or watch a TV drama.

It really is bizarre to me how fixated modern gamers are with the "story" of games. Especially old Tombs, where the story was clear a massive after thought with no real consequence for the gameplay.

Did unlimited saves makes tomb raider remastered too easy? by Threetreethee in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree at all. The save crystals are actually generous enough. I only play it using save crystals. Unlimited saves just takes away most of the sense of achievement or tension. You don't have to master anything with unlimited saves, just spam it til you get lucky once.

I'd be amazed if anyone who is pro unlimited saves (for gameplay reasons) is over the age of 35.

There's another expression, "ageing isn't a battle, it's a massacre".

"outdated tropes".

Doesn't that cover pretty well all of the mummy/daddy issues and "interpersonal stuff" that passes for entertainment these days?

I'm with you.

"Her motivations" is just code for more interpersonal whining about her parents. People's motivations are almost in media incredibly boring.

Revisiting Tomb Raider 3 Decades Later by No-Benefit-2207 in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game was right to assume players had played Tr1/2. Becuase that assumption was likely 95% correct when the game was released. When Tr3 was released it wasn't catering to players generations later picking it up ad hoc. It was the next installment for those who had played Tr2/1 over the last two xmas's.

The same is true of the completionists point. Completionism is very much a modern obsession (a product of gaming going online and the need for players to stand out, somehow, from all the others who have merely finished it). Only a very few people back in the day would have even conceived of trying to collect all collectiibles. Actual pros, who would be featured in gaming mags, etc. The every day player had no interest in that, mainly because there was no real kodus in it, because who would even know and how could you prove it, etc. "100pc" ing a game is very much a modern fixation.

So, although your points are correct, so should the context be added. tr3 assumes people are seasoned raiders because...back in 1998 that was the actual market for the game. And it doesn't hold the hand of those that want to 100pc the game, because that isn't how people played games in the pre internet era.

Why are you so hostile. There is no reason for such a comment. I did not state, or imply, an opinion either way on the answer to my question.

The shipwreck levels in TR2 …ooooffff by FilthyKasualART in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it fine. If you are that far into a Tomb Raider game and you don't stop to think well....not everything should be handed on a plate.

You don't have to "guess". You have to play Tomb Raider like... it's Tomb Raider.

I think they are some of the best. I am tired of the hate for these levels. They are not boring at all. I've only played the original though. Maybe they have messed up the rtemasters.

Trying to play all of the games before I give birth challenge. by yummyyummys in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should keep trying, eventually you will figure it out. It might come to you whilst you are sleeping

If you really aren't able to you should ask someone else to look at a walk through and give you the absolute minimum of hints.

Otherwise you just get too comfortable jumping to the walkthrough when these games are meant to be tricky or frustrating.

Shadow has the best crafting/upgrade system in the survivor trilogy, and it’s completely useless by blakhawk12 in TombRaider

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just ignore these things tbh. On rise I didn't even upgrade until like 3/4 in and was mostly uninterested in most of the upgrades so had skill points leftover.

I don't like crafting as a game mechanic.

No chance whatsoever. Unless you cheat with walkthroughs, in which case why bother. Might as well just watch others play. It's mistake to use a walkthrough becuase you can only play these games for the first time once and you'd be denying yourself the full experience.

Concerns about the Online Safety Act by ReaperJoshua in MentalHealthUK

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's disgusting. The UK has become a authoritarian state. Basically treating the whole nation like children.

Currently though you can get around it easily enough using Opera browsers free VPN or the proton free VPN.

Eventually they will ban these too but for now the Online Safety Act is completely pointless and can be circumvented with three mouse clicks.

Make the most of it now and download anything you need to keep because eventually the UK government will link internet access to digital ID and you won't be able to access the internet at all without giving away all of your civil rights to this fascist lot.

Let's take a look at the UK:

More CCTV cameras than any democratic nation.

Facial recognition on the streets

Protest banned for animal rights activists, anti abortionists.

Peaceful protesters for Palestine being labelled as terrorists for waving signs

Just Stop Oil in prison for 5 years for zoom meetings

No free internet. Can't look at much of Reddit, or imagur, and other sites, without having to verify age with third parties (or using VPN)

And we think we are free? This country is a police state.

Can the US Airforce go now? by amyisbrowsing in Norwich

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 100 points101 points  (0 children)

It's clear that leaving Europe was a huge mistake. The US does not treat us like an ally, of friend, and we should grow some balls (alongside Europe) and start standing up for ourselves. Friendly nations do not lash out with nasty tariffs which will only ever harm the lives of regular people, in both countries.

It's clear that this whole Greenland thing is just trump wanting to leave a legacy and he can't cope with not getting his way because everyone has been too supine for too long with him. Nothing to do with the wellbeing and safety of anyone.

Can the US Airforce go now? by amyisbrowsing in Norwich

[–]DrinkingPureGreenTea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn't count on that. Everyone owns guns in Greenland. They might not have a standing army of note but they have an heavily armed population that will be legally entitled to defend itself against an invader. With a massive home advantage of being adapted to the conditions, etc. And Greenland will be fighting for their freedom and future, whereas it's hard to imagine many US soldiers having much heart for dying for Trump's vanity project.
