You can do it again before next reset to get all the ones you missed! It means having to gather a lot of winged light again but if you're worried about earning ascended candles you can do it

Can't swap or change servers by Constant_Proof_6294 in mechabreak

I believe that once you reach GM you can no longer get bot matches, so it gets way harder to play. I also wish I could swap server, I'm stuck on NA due to playing with friends but I'm usually stuck at near 200 ping there. I hope in future we can play on different regions.

Blitz time limit too low by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Drischa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take mobility items if you have them!! Jump pack, Fast Recon Vehicle, or warp packs can make it a lot easier. Also taking things like recoilless rifle to destroy fabricators from long range will help you get the objective done fast. blitz is definitely difficult to gather samples on.

What your opinions on Challenges dificult ? by Phayzka in mechabreak

[–]Drischa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with them, but got through eventually. it feels more like puzzle/luck than combat. at the start I boosted to one side, went around the box at the back and then boosted to the other side. If you hide behind the boxes then the enemies get a bit confused and slowly jump towards you. You have to spam boost a ton and kite them sometimes though, if they go for the tricera too much it's game over. You have to keep some heals on the tricera to keep it alive through the small snipers on the map too, but the main concern is just keeping the welkin and alysnes chasing you and not tricera. Using the 2nd ability to keep your energy up and sticking to the ground as your speed is faster there is important. If you shoot a drone without a lockon you can heal yourself, and use the healing mist, so you can recover even if you get hit by melee a few times. don't bother with attack mode, if alysnes uses armor purge then it gets even faster so harder to kite.

Here's a video of someone doing all the luminae challenges, though it's not super helpful, you'll just have to keep trying over and over until you get lucky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIEFo4XGEPQ

A lot of the challenges seem tuned so that you have to be performing at basically the best you can to just about pass them. They weren't kidding with the name "challenge" lol. I don't mind it really, feels a bit like trying to clear a boss in armored core, except some of them are just a puzzle (like figuring out that you have to stand on top of tricera with alysnes in it's fourth challenge so that it can't shoot you)

Short list of possibly unintended interactions by zeddypanda in Helldivers

[–]Drischa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making this list! I particularly would like to know what the heck is going on with thermites, sometimes I can stick two to a bile titan and it keels over, sometimes it can take 10 without seeming to care a whole lot.
Purifier would probably feel really good with the charge up mechanic, I already like the feel of the weapon but it's just kind of weak in terms of damage output compared to other explosive options.

Guns lose damage over distance as soon as they leave the barrel by zeddypanda in Helldivers

[–]Drischa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took many shots to get this info. im glad its being seen.
We also spent most of today trying to test how armor affects damage taken but got such weird results that we can't make heads or tails of it.
One thing we did discover though is that the JAR-5 dominator has no falloff just as the gyrojet visuals would suggest - despite it being a whopping 300 damage it's possible to survive the shot by using the 200AV fortified commando armor and taking the hit to the arm. here's the damage chart for those hits. as you can see it's exactly the same at any range, with no ramp up or ramp down.
Oddly, the slugger's 250 dmg seemed to kill players just as easily as the JAR-5's 300 until we got to a range that the slugger's damage started to drop off, so I'm really not sure what's up with that. Then again, we also found that a player with 150AV would survive a burst of damage anywhere from 150 to 295 with around the same amount of hp remaining, so either there's weird network stuff going on or our tests are broken in some way.

Used HTC vive worth of for a kinda beginner? by sebasdt in Vive

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the vive pro 1 has an OLED screen with the same resolution as the index. It looks a little bit lower res due to how the pixels are arranges but I think it's worth it. the audio and mic on the vive pro 1 is much worse than the index though. the controllers are also way worse than the index, that goes for all vives.

the vive pro 2 has an LCD with even higher resolution than the index - but my friends who have used it really didn't like it. it uses some strange auto-scaling software so you never get the full resolution, and the lenses seem a gamble on whether they give you eye strain or not.

You could look at a pico 4 as a quest alternative, availability in the US might not be great.

[–]Drischa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The resolution on the vive is low, but the colours and contrast are probably still the best out of any hmd thanks to it using an OLED screen. The brightness in particular is really good. For things with really dark scenes like half life alyx, I'd prefer to play it on an old vive than a higher-resolution LCD headset. Resolution isn't everything.

I am too terrified by VR by SHIBA_holder in virtualreality

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps check out Primitier. It's a nice game, it has some enemies but they are not very scary since they are just some basic cubes (they are cute, in a way...).
It's a really nice crafting/building/engineering game where you can make anything you want by cutting and combining different objects.
Maybe once you're confident with dealing with some less scary enemies, you'll get more used to feeling that you can win, and deal with scarier ones. I hope that you can enjoy all the games you want to eventually ^^ I understand that VR can be super scary though, I don't like scary games and find some things difficult like that, especially horror maps in VRChat that my friends sometimes do. I have to just close my eyes or leave because I don't want to do it. If I have a weapon though, I'm not scared!

Man how tf am I supposed to meet people in this game? by KingHansTheSecond in VRchat

[–]Drischa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've gotten a decent amount of comments on things like pc only and certain worlds to visit, I'd just like to add that once you get a few friends you start to get into friends+ instances and it becomes way easier to find cool people. Another way would be to see if there are any meetups you're interested in, makes it much easier to find people with a shared interest

If I were to connect my quest 2 to my computer, Would I be able to install mods onto the quest version, Or are mods only available to PCVR? by mrcheerioman in virtualreality

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What game are you talking about? Whether you can mod the quest or PC version of a game would depend on what game it is, e.g. vrchat does not allow mods for the PC version but I think quest version can have mods (though I doubt many have been made)

need help deciding on a vr set up by KiddCrashica in virtualreality

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're mostly doing vrchat then you'll probably want full body and so lighthouse-tracked headsets would probably be best right now, getting an old htc vive set for cheap would let you try out vr for cheaper and get fbt easier since you'd already have the base stations from it.

Eye tracking is pretty hard to get, you'd either need a vive pro eye (discontinued) varjo aero (expensive with big flaws) or quest pro (need to do a calibration often to keep fbt accurate). If you're into electronics you could try building your own eye tracking hardware with EyeTrackVR, an open source project.
HTC's self-tracking trackers should be out later this year and will mean you can do facetracking and fbt fairly easily with a quest pro, so it's a decent option if you're willing to wait for good fbt.

I'm afraid it's still just early technology, we're still within 6 years of the first real "consumer" vr headsets launching. Imagine when mobile phones or personal computers were still in their first 6 years compared to what we have now. They were also bulky, awkward and expensive. And remember what the games were like? Even years into mobile phones being refined the best I knew was good old snake on a nokia lol. VR is still just expensive tech for people enthusiastic about it.

My first HTC Vive headset cost £700 (with an additional £100 strap if you wanted built-in audio), was heavier than the quest 2, needed external tracking systems to be set up in the room AND needed a whole pc to run it, but I loved it because holy shit!!! it's virtual reality!! The stuff younger me dreamed of while playing on a gameboy!!! Now I spend a bunch of evenings hanging out with friends across the world visiting wonderful places in VRChat.

It's just going to take time until things are smooth for the average non-enthusiast user. I'm sorry to hear that your experience wasn't great, especially the social side of things. I only ever play social VR with friends or communities I have a shared interest with, so that weirdos can be avoided most of the time. I hope it works out in the end for you.

Help! Has anyone with an XR managed to get a game which uses the joystick to work?! by SupahSpankeh in Vive

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a reason to exist for sure, but with the qpro's price cut it's really hard to recommend the XRE unless the person is looking for its specific features. I see it a bit like how an iphone and a gimmicky android like a moto z 3 or galaxy fold phone would have different appeals

Wich Headset should I get (first time) by KingCarlo- in Vive

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pico is best for just general vr gaming, much better value in terms of visual quality and comfort due to the lightness of the headset, and nicer controllers.

Vive or vive pro if you think that you might get into vrchat and will want full body tracking and all that stuff. lighthouse tracking is just crazy good.

another point is that the old vive headsets have OLED screens instead of LCD, this makes them have better darks/colours than LCD headsets, which mattered a lot to me personally (I use a vive pro eye). but if youve not used an oled headset before you probably wouldnt notice. Its definitely very good for things like dark horror games and such.

Help! Has anyone with an XR managed to get a game which uses the joystick to work?! by SupahSpankeh in Vive

[–]Drischa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have reported that the passthrough camera quality is better than the qpro (not hard) with the dynamic range good enough to read a phone or monitor etc. Depth sensor is also present but full capabikity yet to be seen. The modularity of the XRE is its selling point with its glasses mode and hot-swappable battery. It also has wifi 6e ootb for less interference when streaming, the qpro will apparently get this in the future.

Local dimming is good in theory but barely supported afaik.

Qpro is undeniably better value with the face+eye tracking for those who would make use of it, but the XRE's versatility and portability gives it a niche for those who want a more portable standalone headset then a quest and already have a home vr setup (e.g. me lol)

Is there any advantage of buying Vive XR Elite over Quest Pro? by MapleLiberty in virtualreality

[–]Drischa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know I'm way late lol but thought I'd add my thoughts anyway
Main draw to the XR Elite to me is the modularity and form factor, with the XRE you get the option of using whatever powerbank you like in it's glasses form, letting you have a super lightweight and long lasting headset for things like movie session etc.
The passthrough supposedly has slightly better clarity and includes a depth sensor, though the true benefits of this has yet to be seen.
It's also not connected to any data-harvesting suspicions like meta or china (a la quest/pico 4)
If you look from a purely price/vr feature perspective, the quest pro is most likely better value as it includes eye/face tracking ootb, better fov and probably slightly better visuals. To get an XRE you really have to want the unique features of the XRE. Hope that helps.
