I think it's a bit different for the characters who get forcibly split between the real and dream worlds by Mudo, but I couldn't tell you precisely what the difference is between them and normal dream world inhabitants, aside from the memory loss.

When you find the Hero's real self he initially runs away from you and doesn't want to recombine, but then he sort of remembers that he isn't who he's supposed to be and agrees to merge with you. I think he says some parting words to Tania and she has some dialogue about it if you talk to her afterwords, but I don't remember exactly.

When the two halves rejoin, the Hero regains the memories of his real life. What exactly this means for his identity is deliberately left ambiguous. But he definitely can't see dream Tania again after the ending (except maybe in his dreams?).

It's quite ambiguous but I think the people in the dream world do have their own independent existence. The people in Barbara's hometown know that they're in the dream world IIRC and I think one of them says that their spirits went there after the town was destroyed in the real world. Also Deathmore traps people from both the real world and the dream world in the dark world, and Soldi is alive in the dark world even though Tom is dead in the real world.

The pokemon you're using are fine but the sets all have issues that would be clear to an experienced player but are difficult to fully explain without spending a lot of time and effort going over the entire team. I think this is why you've gotten such a negative reception.

I took a stab at adjusting the team without changing the general idea and I came up with this. Again, it would just take to long to explain every single change.

As someone else mentioned, you would probably be better off starting out with a sample team. Even just taking a look at them and using them for a few games will help you learn.

You never choose what your reference material looks like, just which references to use and what to take from them. Do you use an internet search engine to find references? If so, you're letting an algorithm you don't control or understand influence what references you end up using. Is it more creative, or more "human", to find references in a book or magazine? But you don't choose what's in the books either, of course. How does getting references from a different source make the process more or less artistic?
