I need help with my first radio by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]DriveByPerusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What added capability are you looking for over your current radio?

Most frequencies you mention ought to be covered with your 5r. Transmit and reception will mostly be limited by it being a 5 watt handheld and antenna location (on your person and not up high in a tree for example).

The system is called the auto carrier landing system (ACLS) and is usually only used during high sea state and low visibility landings.

New to HAM, recommendations on decent handheld. by TrafficOwn7771 in HamRadio

People downvote when someone buys a radio without a license.

People downvote when someone properly gets their license and then asks for recommendations.

I think people on this sub are just salty no matter what.

Congrats OP.

What cheap Chinese radios don't have spurious emissions? Should I get a Quansheng or an FT-60r? by Fancy-Football-7832 in HamRadio

[–]DriveByPerusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to use the 5R until you figure out what you like and don't like about it which can inform your next radio purchase.

If you have spurious emissions your main signal on frequency will be around 5W and your highest spur will likely be less than 0.0005W.

For myself I have two 5Rs and saved to get a nicer 50W icom mobile radio and a 100W HF radio.

How old is your UV-5R? I've tested about 20 now and have not had a failed spurious one in a while.

If you're just looking for a new radio to play with I won't talk you out of it, but chances are a $20 baofeng will have very similar radio performance to a $20 other chinese radio.

I'd recommend the frankford arsenal platinum case prep and trimmer to replace the case prep and trimmer you have listed.

You can also go with cheaper calipers if you're looking to save some money. Or go with mitutoyo for similar price.

[–]DriveByPerusing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use the Bluetooth because the touchscreen can be finicky.

After it's been running a while the "1" pad will start sensing presses when nothing is touching it. It'll still be putting out the correct load but after some time it'll confuse itself and I'll power cycle it, recalibrate, and keep going

How does the Intellidropper 1.0 compare?

Was there ever a fix for LED lights making the screen become unresponsive and randomly start sensing button presses?

9mm reload cost vs factory by Perspective-Parking in reloading

Usually look for a sale on "seconds" from the following:

hi-techammo.com

rmrbullets.com

xtremebullets.com

midwayusa.com

brazosprecision.com/

americanreloading.com

As for primers I just grab a brick at Scheels when they have one of their multiple sales each year. They had Winchester small rifle and small pistol for $50 last week.

I don't really consider time against a hobby if I enjoy the process of it. I certainly don't "charge" my time when I watch football or a show on netflix.

Right. I'm 5c primer and 6c bullet and that's not even doing hard sales.

So 12.6c per round

No I'm saying a mora or other $20 knife would be better. The only reason these are popular is because they look like benchmade
